I found this vlog even more fascinating than normal; watching you work. I keep thinking there's no photo here and then suddenly you've framed a great image and I just think Wow, how'd you do that! Good work sir.
Great show. Really nice to see a photographer using gear that most of us can afford and not the latest, greatest, new and expensive stuff. I’ve been shooting a lot more with my old 25mm and EM-10 mk ii. Great photos Thanks again for the motivation.
I'm so jealous! I live in one of the most beautiful places on earth and walk around looking for 'good' photographs and I know they are there but I can't ever do them justice. The way you find compositions is phenomenal as are your actual photos. Great video:)
I always love your videos Craig, you take us on a journey in a relaxing and enjoyable fashion. You always capture some great images to compliment the videos. Fantastic, thank you 🙏
When I saw the thumbnail on an e6 vlog I thought f*** off, who are you trying to kid 😁. Anyway, I watched it if course and really enjoyed the images. Yes, alright, and the bloke presenting it 😊
The old steel works used to look amazing at night with the furnace running. The gas containers light up well at sunset. But no-one in the history of photography has ever taken a decent picture of the nuclear power station. Lovely processing 👌
Your industrial photography is great! No doubt there are a lot of great stories that went into the design and building of these factories and machines. For the places that are still in operation, engineers, technicians, and operators are doing good work to create the things we need. Thanks for showing us your images today.
Loved this video. Your best one yet. Going to a place that many would deem ugly, and creating great images. It seems good composition is key, and you are a master! Very inspiring!
I’ve just discovered you, and I’m finding your work fascinating. I’ve been watching your videos for the last three days, and feeling really inspired for my next outing.
Sadly the steel works have gone. Don McCullin visited the area back in the early 70s, smoking chimneys and sea coalers. Ridley Scott went to West Hartlepool art collage and he photographed a lot of the grime, which they say gave him the darkness for Blade Runner. Also Chris Killip did a fair bit in the area. Angus the monkey is the Mascot for Hartlepool FC. The area was also shelled in the first world war by German Ships, hence the Gun emplacement. The oil rigs are being taken apart for scrap.
I seriously love your vlog, and that means a lot as I watch quite a lot of them. Great pace, interesting thoughts and, most importantly, beautiful photos and composition that are a source of inspiration. Thank you very much for sharing.
This really struck a chord with me .......unfashionable location (near where I grew up) with an unfashionable camera (which I own, and really like). Such a refreshing change from the same locations/themes that we see endlessly on UA-cam. Oh, and the images are great 👍👍. Really inspiring....
@@demarestk only in UA-cam terms I suppose... Anyway I'm not saying it's of any consequence, just an observation on how much attention it seems to get....I still think it's great
"Hi Craig, being in Devon all we've got is boring beaches, rough old Dartmoor, rain, tourists, etc, what I would'nt give for a lovely chemical plant, nuclear energy plants, bits of rusty stuff just lying around, especially steel works! you're so lucky to be able to photograph these subjects! 🙂 Nice to c u back on the tube, great vid for "seeing" pictures in that environment! good stuff. keep going Craig".
Yes, my kind too. Dare I say much more photogenic than mountain lakes and rolling hills. You've inspired me to go out to the industrial area of Kwinana, south of Fremantle, to see if I can get any nature vs industry shots similar to yours. One of the pleasures I get from watching videos like this is to open up Google Earth and see if I can work out just where you were. Today there were a couple of "Ooh yes, that's the breakwater he was on in Hartlepool." moments. Great video and Cheers from DownUnder 🦘
Definitely my sort of landscape. My Mother came from Middlebrough so as kids we went up there for our holidays. She passed away when I was 9 so we hardly ever went back, but back in 2018 we went back and did a few hours at South Gare plus Hartlepool etc. Loved your images! Might have to go back whilst I have time!!
Great shots, Craig and interesting locations. I agree with you about shooting long exposures these days as I am bit bored with them as well with the hassle of setting up your tripod and getting your filters ready etc. I quite like the simplicity of just hand held shots more these days. Anyway great video.
I was born and brought up in an industrial environment that has mostly disappeared. I look back on that era wishing that I could have recorded it with a camera as I could now. But I hadn't even touched a box Brownie in those days. Your images remind me that there are still opportunities. Some sunrise or sunset shots would be interesting.
Certainly agree regarding "smoothing" out the water. I was never much of a fan, although I've done a bit of it myself to enhance reflections, etc. But generally I like to see movement in water, especially in seascapes.
The significance of the monkey in Hartlepool hails from the neapolionic war when a monkey was gifted to the town however the locals viewed this as a suspicious act and tried the monkey as a spy and having found it guilty as such they sentenced it to hanging which they duly did....the football team are nicknamed the monkey hangers in reference to this event
This story is wrong. I am a native of the NE and the story is thus : - A French warship foundered off Hartlepool during the Napoleonic Wars and a monkey in a little Matelot's uniform was washed up on Hartlepool shore. The locals having never seen a Frenchman suspected the monkey of being a spy as he was clearly chattering away in a language that could have been French. The Mayor put the monkey on trial and he was found guilty of spying, he was hung the next day. Hartlepool United used to have a mascot in a monkey suit known as Hangus, rather strangely he later became Mayor of Hartlepool. Then there is the joke : - 3 monkeys in a spaceship in orbit around the Earth, one American, one Russian and one British. Russian monkey says to American Monkey, where do you want land? American monkey replies, slap bang in the middle of Times Square NY, to be given the Congressional Medal of Honour by the President. American monkey says to Russian monkey where do want to land Bud? I want to land slap bang in the middle of Red Square Moscow and be given the Hero of the Russian Federation Medal by President Putin. The Russian and American monkeys say to the British monkey, hey where do you want to land? British monkey answered any f-----g where but Hartlepool.
This is a postcard 😊 a surviving monkey from a shipwreck was said to have been hung in the 19th century but there is no evidence for this (?) “monkey hanger” is a local term 👍
I do agree about the water shots done with the ten stop and big stopper ND filters. There are so many of them anymore that they are rather cliche and I agree boring.
You would have loved the old Steetley site Craig, but i think its all flattened now.Hartlepool has lost so much of its character over the last 60 year or so.......Shame realy. Loving your photo's me lad :)

He's fantastic. It's helped me a lot with my composition and seeing shots
The best photo vlogger on You Tube imho. No one except Craig illustrates the pleasure of taking photographs so well.

A target rich area. My kind of landscape. Loved the one @ 9:47, but they were all brilliant.
My kind of coastline too, that final shot was the best.
I loved that video, definitely one of my favourites. I’d be pleased with any one of those images, let alone such great selection.

Been there many a time Hartlepool to Seaton Carew and the Gare very interesting area great on a stormy day with low mist sea frett etc
Loved this video. Your best one yet. Going to a place that many would deem ugly, and creating great images. It seems good composition is key, and you are a master! Very inspiring!
A great set of images. I'd love more like this. Thanks....Oh and no long exposures of the sea fine art nonsense.
I’ve just discovered you, and I’m finding your work fascinating. I’ve been watching your videos for the last three days, and feeling really inspired for my next outing.
Consistently great compositions, videos, observations.
A photographers photographer!

Love your explanations of composition. 👏👏👏
You make the mundane very interesting. What a great talent. Thank you for conceiving the idea, putting it into practice and sharing it.
That final shot is by far my favourite. It has a concept art style to it that really resonated with me.
the pictures were incredibly beautiful

So inspiring. You really outlive the sentence "there is always a photo to be taken"! And what photos.Thank You.
I'm proud to have been brought up on Teesside. Moved south for work in the mid-1990's when I was 37 with the wife and kids. #UTB
I don't regret subscribing to e6 as it is the one source that continually inspires my photography
Lovely video and some really wonderful shots. I love B&W square format too!

It seems unanimous that this is now one of our solid favourite videos. Gritty is the new pretty!

Great video. I particularly like the mono versions of these
Nice? A good composition brings out a lot of interest in a coastline mixed with industrial relics.
An other “classic Roberts” - thank you
I’ve just acquired a Retina 1b 1954 camera, I’m astonished at the sharp images it produces.
Lovely lovely shots. Absolutely killed it. I presume it would be super dramatic at sunrise and sunset. Thanks
This made my day.
I found that the lack of a tripod and filters frees up your photographic juices. Great shots as usual 📷👍

great stuff
Good to see you didn’t do Chemical beach some great scenery and a fantastic Vlog by the way did you see the tin can house
Just checked and it’s been knocked down so you wouldn’t have seen it
Exceptional shots! Love the last two in particular 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Great photographer!! As always.
Great love this type vlog.
Strange to some people, but what a beautiful place.
The flat factory could be foregrounded by that timber drift wood. Nice work all frames. I wish I could see, the way you see.
Very motivational
Perfect condition for black and white
You have an good eye,and imagination.
Brilliant
Andy Capp!!! So that's the canal he dips in?? They changed the Rose and Crown to Pot House??? 🤔

IMHO they really should take a good look at what Bethlehem Pennsylvania did with their steel works before knocking anything down.

Eston docks just down the river tees was a photographer’s paradise, all gone now , steel works will be gone shortly, shame
Documenting the end of humanity...well done.

Is it after a ship wreck a monkey survived from the ship and some locals thought it was the french.
as for the monkey apparently they hung one as a spy
The monkey was hanged it was believed to be a Russian spy
French not Russian.
You could make a lump of poo look good. Well done.
Impressive. You can see the very negative impact of mankind on nature. The human a ridiculous resident of earth.
I could shoot that, and probably I would have included that pile of rubbish. My photos would be different though.
name checks out
