    Unlisted live stream recording of my extra hours with the game to help quell the NPCs who might deny I played more:

    By the way, I'm a one man writer/editor who made all this by myself. Do you know how HARD it is to write, record, edit and create a video guyz? Thus, by your own rules, you should be soooo empathetic and shield me from any criticism. I look forward to seeing what excuses you'll use to juggle this contradiction around. All 1% of you who will bother to watch, that is 😂

      Nobody is saying your video editing is trash, because it's not. It's your opinion they don't agree with. I'm not on anyone's side here but since your the creator I feel that you should realize that. Not trying to argue btw. Also just a question but why is B&S such a great game when the AI and gameplay is arguably easier?

      I have a feeling you don't like the genre and the only reason you are saying this is because of that. And yes the ai isn't great but is blades and sorcery's any better? The game was made for people who like to fight and like dungeon crawlers/mmos and i'd say its the current best fighting game. Compared to others that are solely on oculus not on pc and yes there is better ones on pc but battle talents fun if you actually TRY to play it. Not keep tapping them and farther through the game or even at the start I'm pretty sure you can make it harder.

    Crazy idea, if you get into the game and actually sit there and use some god damn brainpower the feeling of being cool is present. The point of the game is you need to get into it to have fun, you need to put yourself in the world.
    Edit: To better word what I meant, heres a better description. This game is like taking two foam swords and having a sword fight with a friend. Imagine you and a friend fight with two foam swords, doing cool moves, acting like hits hurt, and feeling cool. Now imagine some dude walks up and goes "yo these swords are foam they cant hurt you" and "you guys have no sword fighting experience. Want a real experience, go buy some real heavy swords and fight to the death" Sometimes its not about difficulty or nuance, sometimes its just about a good time.

    when I saw the first video I thought it was a bit hyperbolic to say that what seemed like some random shovelware asset flip steam VR game was "how VR dies". I certainly did not expect that this shovelware game was in fact a game that a large amount of people were extremely hyped for and was a fairly prolific title to the point where you received backlash for pointing out blatantly horrendous game design. If someone were to try to play any other arena combat VR game like that the enemies would easily wipe the floor with the player, yet for some reason there are people saying this game is genuinely hard and satisfying to play? Clearly the AI in these NPCs are just as good as they are in that sorry excuse for a game lmao

    • @abcde6081
      @abcde6081 Рік тому +4

      Plus the whole "its only one developer" is such a ridiculous excuse, any developer no matter how amateur above the age of 14 should know to manage the scope of their game to be something they can handle, ESPECIALLY if they are a solo dev. When creating a game as a solo dev you don't seek to create some masterpiece 500 hours in depth JRPG with 20 different endings, you seek to create something a solo dev can actually handle. This is all the more important in VR development when every little detail needs to be spot on to create a compelling experience. Even if this game wasn't some unity store asset flip but instead a fully original arena fighter with 500 levels, thought provoking story and ground-breaking AI, none of it would matter when the core combat mechanics are fundamentally non-existent. TLDR: Being a solo dev is no excuse, if you can't create decent combat, don't create a combat focused game.

    • @jciskey
      @jciskey Рік тому +1

      I personally don't agree. If you gave a full dev team and a single dev a year to develop a game the full team would definitely have a much more polished and fleshed out game with less bugs while the single dev wouldn't be able to make the same amount of progress within the same timespan. With time the game will improve and why not just release it now to give a taste? More updates will come to better the game. Also the dev of this game wasn't seeking to make a giant grand game it is just a game. You shouldn't have the same expectations for a full team and one dev.

    I am glad you did not sugarcoat your review on this game, and I can see validity in your points. Everyone is still continuously hung up on the fact that you played the game without any effort. For a VR game that’s been released in 2023, I would say that it is pretty low quality. The traction this game has gotten, as well, I find to be a tad bit ridiculous. It's an enjoyable game, just not at the level that I was expecting. It isn’t better than B&S, as that game’s physics are in a different realm entirely. The point you are trying to get across is the fact that this VR community is normalizing and praising a low-quality game and placing it on the top shelf among literal titans like H3VR and B&S.
    Playing the game the first time, I wasn’t even aware that the melee combat was ‘flawed,’ so coming from B&S, I was doing full swings, which provided a much different experience. You, however, didn’t mention the unlockable skills you can get later on: air juggles, kicks, dashes, spells, and the ability to snap the necks of little goblins. They all add more to the game and make it a little bit more enjoyable. You can wiggle your blade through dungeons and beat them, sure, but being able to do all these ‘fancy’ moves is what makes the game fun. I admit it’s a tad bit underwhelming, but it is still fun. I’d much rather prefer playing B&S.
    While I'm here dumping my own thoughts I might as well ask:
    My game feels like it is stuck in slow motion anyone else have that problem? Idk my game speed feels slow and switches to fullspeed at random intervals

    I agree with a lot of the things you're saying, but I still think that the game has plenty of fun moments.
    You're right that the game is low quality, and probably shouldn't be marketed as a full release, and especially not a "training simulator". And VR definitely deserves better.
    But the game is a plenty fun battle simulator in my honest opinion. It should be marketed more as a battle sandbox, because that's what it is. It has implemented movement mechanics and combat mechanics that other games don't have, i.e. air combos and quicksteps, which encourage more fantasy-styled high speed combat where you're hacking and slashing in the most fun and ridiculous ways you can think of.
    I believe personally that the fact that you can waggle at enemies and win doesn't take away from the gameplay if you decide not to do that to win. I died many times throughout the game to enemies as I tried to incorporate different styles of fighting throughout my playthrough, such as different spear techniques, stances, and experimenting with what's possible. If I'd just waggled at the enemies, sure I'd have won the game easier, but it wouldn't be as fun.
    You're right that the game feels unfinished, and that it's missing things that could really make it shine. It doesn't have a good story system, the translations are abysmal, and while progression is fun it feels like you're not progressing towards anything. The enemies can get repetitive and stale, and the difficulty increases in artificial ways.
    But as long as you try to have fun with it, and make your own fun, I believe it's a very solid VR game.
    VR is still in its infancy in my opinion, and while there have been truly spectacular VR games, there's still so much to learn about the possibilities that it's fine for games to experiment with them. This game is the first that I've seen that has these air combos and movement mechanics while maintaining a full physics system.
    In your last video I defended the game pretty hard, but now that I've actually heard you talk about your points instead of seeing what looked like a spiteful low-effort dig at the physics, I can agree with a lot of what you're saying and you've made me realize a lot of problems with the game. Still, I like the game, and we're entitled to our opinions on what we like and don't like. I just don't think that this game is an example of why VR is a failing concept. It just demands a different means of enjoyment.

    I do agree with Mr VR Voice on everything mentioned in the video especially on the "it's a single dev product so it's okay to be shit" bullshit (in my mind Stardew Valley directly popped up ... single dev and still way better overall /not a VR game but still with better standards than this/)
    @Mr VR Voice I have a feeling that you're touching a certain phenomenon that I've noticed with WoW (World of Warcraft) where people used to be actually challenged by the game in the beginning (From Classic untill WOTLK) but after an outcry from the majority of the casual players that the game is too difficult and thus not allowing said players to see certain features of it (like expansion bosses - let alone beat them) Blizzard nurfed the crap out of everything up until a point where the game lost a lot of the charm and sense of meaningfulness.
    TL;DR: There's a lot of people usually more inclined to play pretend than actually taking the time to learn new things, because that's "too hard/too time consuming". It is disgusting how a lot of devs are taking advantage of that specifically, skipping on actually making a good product. (And I'm not even gonna start on shitty practices that a lot of devs are doing nowadays with preorders that never get released out of development, broken games on launch, casual plagiarisms of popular titles, and the plethora of other "novel" tactics nowadays) The idea of at least some difficulty being present in a game is to award the player after completing the said challenge with a sense of "Fuck yeah I did it! It was hard but I managed to pull it off" (a.k.a. accomplishment).
    You nailed all the responses mentioned in the video and yes "fun" is as subjective as "beautiful" to a person.
    Hats off to you good Sir. Keep up the good work! 😊

Also I'm not quite sure if you're aware, but insulting your own viewers isn't going to give you a positive response from them. (also unity assets are available for a reason. And It takes a whole lot more than assets to make a game.

  • @kadlus9781

    This is an interesting take on the game. Personally, i really like it regardless of the flaws but i can see where you come from. I do HEMA and specifically longsword and rapier + dagger and while this game is VERY unrealistic and has incredibly weak ai i actually did enjoy it more than the more popular blade and sorcery. The reason being the heavy parry mechanic rather than the handling. Whereas blade and sorcery you really could just point and win.
    However i would like to point out that the game that a lot of people compare this game to has some of the same problems. That being Devil May Cry. Ill be specifically talking about dmc 5 for simplicity sake since its the one ive played. A lot of dmc's enemies if you really wanted to you could very bare bones do a couple of attacks and be dome with it. Now dmc does up the anti with harder enemies, but it does exactly what you also dont dont like with the difficulty here which is spamming more attacks to force a reaction. And DMC is loved by critics fans and newcomers alike and is incredibly popular despite there being better in the hack and slash genre.
    I do understand your point of upping the quality of games some but i dont think this is exactly the worst thing ever. Personally i give indie games a lot of slack. Hell one of the most popular indie games of all time is undertale and the movement system in non combat areas is stupidly broken and buggy allowing you to farm off the walls. I dont think this kind of quality is bad for the industry at all if someone can still enjoy the game. Not all games are made for YOU if that makes sense. Hell i could say i dont like shooting games like COD because there is clear inbalance in guns and meta ehen a sniper can oneshot at any range eith little to no consequences, but people play the hell put of those games. Just because i dont enjoy it doesnt mean everyone else cant.
    In short i do see this as great and valid critisism and the backlash you got for it was upsurd. But i also think yhis video and response is just prevoking it (ehich i mean honestly probably helps your channel more than hurt it lol). I think yoyr overly cynical and mocking with it which is completely unecissary and makes you come off way worse and honestly laughable at times. This doesnt help prove or convince anyone cause its just prevoking an emotional response. (And some could argue the action of being mocking is an emotional response itself.) In short, if you want to leave a review people will listen to, dont try and insult the audience and let the facts speak for themselves.

I am personally a fan of the game for my own personal reasons, but if you take a step back and actually look at the ai, it isn't the best, but with time and feed back it can and will improve. Everyone's opinions are valid, and if you just ignore or boycott other opinions, things will never change for the better

    I don't understand all of the "it's only a single dev" comments. Vertigo 2 was also made by essentially a single dev and is leaps and bounds better in terms of quality and content than this game. Then you have games like the newest The Lord of the Rings: Gollum - made by a full team of developers which (while not a VR game, but still) is nearly universally reviewed as a shitty, buggy, poorly made game. Number of developers should not equate to the standards of polish behind a fully released game, rather it should purely be about the mechanics and experience of the gameplay itself. I truly don't understand why "well he's only a single guy cut him some slack" should be an effective defense.

      But he talks about it as if it’s a triple A title and that they should’ve just “worked harder” to fix it. Vr is a new medium so it’s hard to innovate on something that is so foreign to most aspects of game design. I understand the game could’ve been better and that it’s reminiscent of the many issues vr games have but we also can’t expect devs, especially indie devs, to magically know how to solve issues that plague the medium. Not every game is going to be revolutionary, may we critique it to strive.

  • @chrystales6169
    @chrystales6169 11 місяців тому +8

    People compare this to a character action game like DMC, where the point is to pull off crazy moves and combos to style on your enemies. But by the same token, if you could beat every enemy with just a basic, one-button attack, then it wouldn't be very great. Sure, there might be a small subset of people who might find enjoyment in pulling complex moves for the sake of itself, but it's not going to push its appeal to a larger audience.
    After watching these two videos and having my eyes opened, I absolutely agree that the game needs to fix these issues if it ever wants to grow bigger and expand past a niche section of VR players. You can tell how some people in the comments straight up never even considered doing what you did by accusing that you're somehow playing on the lowest difficulty, or that the game is bugged. They didn't even try to boot up the game and replicate what you're doing to verify that it is in fact a valid tactic, which is what I did.
    The biggest issue I see is the vastly different mindsets. The reason fans of the game repeatedly echo 'just pretend lmao' is because in our eyes, it genuinely is as simple as that. The fact that you can gently slap enemies and win is not an issue to us, because we won't ever do that ourselves. It's not fun, so we don't do it. We're not bothered by an ever-looming 'easy win' button. You don't need to be challenged when playing with action figures as a child to have fun, after all.
    But just like action figures, it's not for everyone. For some reason nearly every argument trying to defend the game seems to tip-toe around that, and make great logical leaps and hurdles just to defend it in the most irrelevant and dumb ways possible. Trying to ask right-brains to explain and justify why they enjoy something is going to end up disastrously, so they'll make up the most inane excuses or lash out emotionally, which is what happened.
    This silly little hacked up buggy mess of a game is fine as it is in my eyes, and I'm still going to play it exactly how I played it before. The responses to the last video are moronic, because they are completely deaf to the notion that some people can't pretend as easily as them. I think the reason why you got such a passionate response is specifically because Battle Talent is a rather unpopular and niche game, at least compared to Legendary Tales and Blade & Sorcery. The smaller the community, the more extreme they are. I wouldn't dwell too hard on it.

If I'm buying a product, I expect it to be good. I don't really care how many people worked on it, and it's not really an excuse you can use in any other industry, either, so why here?
    First hour or two of a game are crucial for player retention, more so with Steam refunds being 2 hour limit. If I'm not having fun in the first hour or so, I'm not gonna keep playing with the promise of it gets better later on. Ok? If it does, then why isn't it fun now? Why do I have to grind boring stuff to get to the fun part? I have limited free time, and this feels like a waste of it. $20 also aren't exactly going to break me, but I'd also rather not waste them. But at least to say something positive about that community vibe : VR, unity, unreal engine, youtube tutorials are bringing new devs trying something and that "battle talent" project was already followed since years from sidequest etc so a lot of people (and fan of sword and sorcery of course) felt in emotion and hype with the project. By positive I meant that tools are allowing more people to put their imagination in something but only few will be at the "correct level" (reminds me this infinite list of shit games on phone, on steam etc).
    BUT yeah people have to understand that your video is more about people hyping a bad game and not be able to hear your arguments, yes this is killing VR expectations more than amateur devs efforts which are learning and releasing in the same time while dealing with their own life , can be family, can be a disease, can be landlords.
    (I will only keep praising for this vertigo 1 and 2 "ONEDEV achievement" because it was an extremely absurd cherry on the cake of one mad guy doing better than many teams with budget... but to use that one guy thing to justify why we should fake enjoying this joke gameplay, it is a bit sad)

Skyrim VR with certain mods is also pretty fun (not Fallout 4 VR though, do NOT get that).
      Hell, did you know BeamNG has VR support? Y'know, the realistic driving and crashing physics simulation? Yeah. Horrifying, but fun stuff. Highly recommend, especially if you're into racing games.
      Don't give up on the medium because of a few bad apples (there are indeed a LOT of bad apples). There's a lot of fun to be had.

  • @alexn572
    @alexn572 Рік тому +4

    Look, I get it, you didn't like the game because you were expecting a certain quality from the beginning, which is alright, when a game sells itself by mentioning it's a "Physics based combat simulator" you at least expect it has nice physics, this game is not that great at that, the dev can definitely work on that and improve it, but that doesn't excuse it from releasing this game as it is, I agree fully that this is the big thing holding back the game.
    There's another point though which I agree with you totally but I feel there's not much hope on it getting fixed and that's the bad AI, sadly it's the hardest stuff to develop. Big games use a very complicated AI system so I get that in this case the "Single guy argument" could make a lot of sense, maybe he can tweak it to make it more aggressive, make the enemies "dizzy" resistant over time and make them approach you more, but as I said AI is complicated, so let's see if he can improve it with time.
    I feel like this game it's trying to do what Sairento does, that game has awful gameplay if you just walk around and swing, part of the fun is roleplaying as the ninja you're supposed to be, I know you mentioned this on your video as "at that point just jump around your room slaying imaginary foes" but this could be said with a lot of VR games honestly, they are the bridge between you and another reality, the point is you can feel superhuman, there's visual consequences for your actions, so it makes it easier for you to immerse in this fantasy world, if you don't care about that, or you lack interest on the context the game puts you in, you just won't like it, you see, in flat games the player is represented by a fictional character that can do superhuman stuff because it's programmed to do so, in VR you don't have total control on the player because suddenly it's now just a human, with regular human capabilities, so the things the player do are up to him. The point being: Roleplaying is required to enjoy a VR game to its fullest, you take out great part of the fun by not doing that.
    Finally I want to say that I feel like although you are in all your right to not like the product, please allow yourself to be more constructive with your criticism, you only point at the bad stuff usually (Breachers review comes into mind with this, I also wrote a comment there) so it feels overly pessimistic and destructive, give suggestions, point some good stuff (I'm sure there's things to mention), try to give pseudo solutions to the game issues, I feel like this is why your review feels so harsh and according to some people: toxic, so although I get what you're saying I don't like the way you said it.
    If you actually read my comment, thanks, hopefully I said something that made sense to you.

    This is like in Wii era games some people took sword fighting seriously and swinging their whole arms vs the ones that always won, the ones that only twist their wrist. I believe IA that shutdowns itself should be mandatory in easy difficulties for accessibility purpouses, but high should have feedback. It should be challenging and no one should be able to beat a game like you are.
    Of course, we have to understand that VR is what it is because of all these solo developers trying stuff, and I am starting to believe IA is something impossible to do, since most games, specially AAA cannot even get it right. So little people that know about it? There may be more Cobol developers than IA ones.

    As far as I’m concerned physics based combat games can’t be difficult, even in flat screen games this is a big issue (look at Dark Messiah Of Might And Magic). The only real exception is Broken Edge). Too many VR games focus on the physics instead of having actual difficulty, even on PCVR.

    Ok I get your point and I don’t really want to argue but what do you expect the game was made by one developer and from one developer it’s a lot as you could probably guess. (Your argument) Most of the AI’s are mostly just a copy and paste with a tiny difference. I get this but once again it’s one developer and you have to at least give him credit for starting with some free applab game to a pretty decent looking. But I’m not really arguing with you and rather just giving some answers and building on a little bit on what you said. So in the end yes I get your point but hey it’s not that easy to make a vr game and/or a dungeon based game. And yes the fact that many games are made from one developer and look really good this game is some what of a downgrade. And yes I definitely get that this game is not the best at all compared to many games on the virtual world. Now I understand that the enemy freeze thing is really annoying and I agree saying that in the recorded footage it shows a pretty hard looking combat system that had many more features. So I’m the very end I agree with all of the points in your video but it’s still a pretty fun game. It also has sniping and customization for guns and equipment all making for a great sandbox of fun but at the same time if you play it exactly as intended and designed where you take it all seriously and just do the basics it's still a very fun game and is rewarding while this game doesn't give you anything unless you go out of your way to make the sandbox fun

    I always like to remember a saying for something like this "a good vr game shouldn't just be good because it's got nice vr mechanics but instead should be able to stand on it's feet without being vr" to give an example half life alyx would still be a pretty solid game with or without vr and vr just enhances the experience. An opposite example would be something like (and i know a lot of people love it) boneworks. Boneworks would not work if it wasn't a vr game because it just doesn't have enough to really offer on it's own. This game falls into the latter if this game wasn't a vr game it would honestly be horrid to play. The ai would be mid and it would just be another dark souls style game with no real substance. This game solely relies on it's vr physics to be good and nothing else but that shouldn't be the case for any game you have to spend money on. A vr game should be enhanced by vr not be saved from being considered bad because it's a vr game. Don't waste your money on trash just because you can put a headset on and act like you're a knight or something.

    So What vr game is good cause every single fighting game is like this, especially b&s and if its so easy and so terrible, go open a unity project and make a full working good game. And i get it you have your opinion and I have mine but if you are playing with no effort and just slightly tapping the enemies (which is a bad game design because you can just tap them and do exact same damage of then swinging your arm) that just gets boring, the point of a fighting game is to actually try to fight which means swinging your arms and jumping and fully blocking but what your doing is just non-energetic and maybe your not intrested in these type of games since your channel is named Mr. VR Voice and I personally love trying out new vr games and its not the best vr game out there but at least give a little impathy because theres not many games out there that are even remotely like b&s, swordsman vr and battle talent that are basically like the only main sword and little magic fighting games. This is ‘cheesing’ or spamming. Any game will have an intended range/type of experience(s) which will in turn be exploited by players who find a workaround for success with less effort, or in some cases with the intent of making the game look bad; the game is expecting the player to play a VR combat game as if they’re in combat, for you to use full movements like any other melee combat game. You can do this in Blade and Sorcery and be equally as successful, a game with significantly more sales, development time and less promised features readily available, I feel that would’ve been more deserving of content like this. You would’ve received the same backlash and engagement if not more. This isn’t in any way a cheap asset flip money grab and there are a million of those and I just wonder why you took such a strong stance against this one. You made a short video with the intent of showcasing the worst fault of the game and downplay the responses of those who saw it as an unwarranted attack on an passion project, yes being one single developer is not an excuse but this title will in no way harm the credibility or quality of future VR games. The game hasn't had any updates (Besides in the demo) so you should expect some bad bugs and some poorly executed elements in the game. As I said before I do get that you don't need to hit the enemies with all of your strength but any game can be lame if you don't try. But like you said even the worst games can seem absolutely "EPIC" if you try hard enough even though you could put in only a fraction of that effort to beat the game. Imagine if your doing a school project and your required to make a slide on volcanoes. If you make your slides bland and boring then you are obviously not gonna feel the same feeling when you put in effort into making an actaul unique slide show. If you don't try then you won't find the game fun. If you try your best in the game and try to swing your sword as fast as you can then you will have alot more fun!
