He only said that the sound was played twice, sometime in sync, sometimes out of sync. It doesn't explain why 🤷♂
@@la_chevre It's not just one sound being played, it's two different sounds being played. Still doesn't really explain why they are out of sync only sometimes, but the root of the problem is there is two sounds assigned to one thing.
@@randomm2617 I thought it was because of the shape the Smoke and Incendiary grenades have. When both the top and then bottom part of the cylinder hit the wall, they make the double hit sound when bouncing - but since the physics expect the grenade to jump back it won't stop flying even though the double hit should reduce the inertia in that moment.

@Karthoum but i'm pretty sure that csgo uses a central point for calculating the grenades' trajectory and collisions, not the 3d model itself. otherwise grenades would constantly get stuck/make sounds when trying to throw them through tiny vertical slots.
would be cool to see a more thorough breakdown of the entire topic, something more akin to a shounic video
Rewatching this I realise that in CS2 you can throw a flashbang near your opponent and even if they're not blinded they can't hear you while you are defusing the bomb
Regarding the Flash/Smoke bounces, the tilde (~) in the sound path makes Source process the file as a distance-sensitive sound. Have you ever heard the HL2 pistol sounds how they muffle out at a distance when npcs are shooting it? Its all in one sound file, but the right channel is the muffled part that is audible.
TLDR Smoke has no tilde in sound path, thus sounds more stereo
So that's what that was. I heard the difference between the smoke and flash bounce was that one sounded more like a "Mono" source than the other

You can drop guns into walls silently. You can also slide them down slopes (almost) silently. I also think (but can't remember) there's a difference between pulling pins on flashes that you didn't cover, something to do with moving vs stationary, or the same with a walk or a crouch.

since we're nitpicking- if you drop the bomb on the cushions in palace on mirage, the sound is cancelled (since i last checked, i dont even play mirage)

If you run the boosted flashbang audio through an AI enhancer you can hear a demon telling you someone just pulled the pin. Checkmate, kliksphilip, our ears are augmented.

I think DaZeD made the claim ages ago that you could hear other players either unpinning a grenade or the initial throw (before any bounces), but it was dependent on what material the player was standing on. I think there was a popflash on Cache in Checkers that had a metal grate on the ground that was his example of an audible pin
This. I knew I used to hear ppl pulling the pin cus once again, i used it to push lol. Being in the video now im personally invested in proving to philip he's incorrect and needs to be on the correct build and surface

The silent jiggling one IS very useful at higher level CS, especially when you are running a default and trying to work a pick but while wanting to remain silent, giving your best chance of winning a duel against an enemy player you make contact with (Voo makes a good point of this in one of his videos, by strafing sideways a particular way in apartments on B mirage you remain silent but your peek is much faster than just walking so if there is an AWP at market window you have a better chance of winning the fight against him, and if nobody is there you simply move onto the next angle etc etc.)
The end of this video seemed like foreshadowing for the inevitable analysis video (which i have been looking forward to almost since the 2021 one.)

I think when people are saying the flash pin makes noise is when you right click throw it, valve made this make sound because silent self flashes were a bit too easy and OP

Before watching your original video I also thought that the flashbang pin would make an audible sound. But you said otherwise and I accepted that because you tested it.
Sometimes people just think they have the correct answer for everything and instead of trusting other people or testing it themselves they just say your wrong.

Man, I love it when the incendiary grenade and molotov makes my favourite chemical hydrocarbon noise in the subtitles ;P
The double bounce sound is more the likely related to collision. It is possible that if the grenade top hits the wall at just the right angle, then when it velocity is reversed to bottom of the grenade also hits the wall triggering the collision function twice and playing two sounds all within a frame or two.

I always thought the smoke and the flash having different but similar bounce sound effects was intended, I thought it was like a slowed down / down pitched version of the flash sound effect to show that it was a smoke bouncing, but also to show that it was a utility grenade. Like the smoke, flash and decoy doesn't inflict direct damage (unless it hits before going off) so it having similar sounds always made sense in my mind.

The smoke grenade wall bounce sound makes more sense knowing that its playing the sound more than once, curious to know why it sometimes bugs and you hear an extinguished molly become extremely loud even when cross map from the smoke being thrown

You know it's weird I only play surf now yet I still come back to your videos, heck I surf so much that I don't even boot up csgo anymore I play almost exclusively on momentum mod and I am deeply involved in the surf community and making content for them.
I did originally make de maps and I did enter the most recent grey box contest after a year of not even playing de_ yet somehow my understanding of level design has bloomed from being in an entirely different community.
I also won a combat/trick surf contest but I feel like the competition wasn't that tough compared to skill surf contests.
I think if it weren't for the accessibility of your early tutorials I might not have gotten so far with level design.
I just like what you do and hope you keep at it. :)

You should also do a video analysing the distance from which sounds can be heard on different maps. I’m regularly unsure of whether or not to sneak or run because I can’t tell from how far an enemy could potentially hear me
You can "sense" it after a long time playing - for example - on Mirage in Apps, you can run until you hit that first "sandstone" doorway behind TV (going towards Underpass) or at Inferno, you can run until the squeaky door through T apps (when going into stairs/reverse)
I don’t know if you noticed, but there is an inaccuracy or a bug. In general, when throwing a grenade, the character says aloud what he is throwing. And it often happens that the spoken name of the grenade does not match what the player really throws. incidental situations. For example, when throwing a fragmentation grenade, the character for some reason says something about a smoke or stun grenade.

I think the smoke grenade has the double sound because there is something inside it that is free to move. So, it makes another sound when the thing inside hits the edge of the container.
phillip , you can use tapping in conjunction with the walk key to much more practically manage your movement . fastquiet step is very useful in lots of situations hehe

Masking sounds reminds me of the decoy Negev bug on vertigo masking where you were going from ct spawn and annoying everyone on the map.
