The US Navy recently arrested a contractor and a former DOD civilian employee for doing a scheme totaling around 8M. She definitely had inside help especially for 100m.
DOD needs to be held accountable as well. They’ve failed 5 straight years of budget audits where the money was literally unaccounted for🤦🏽♂️🫠

I used to work in a comptroller’s office for dod. Part of my job was investigating fraud like this. As soon as fraud is suspected, or detected, every penny that goes through a command starts getting tracked. Once the IRS is involved, along with homeland security, and any other agency, the person or persons will be uncovered. The sad part is that it can take years sometimes, but it gets brought to light.
It’s like she was begging to be caught!

They do. In the Army, we used to say that Uncle Sam would be so quick to get their money back. You'd see that "debt" taken out off your next pay. But if Uncle Sam owed you, you had to jump through hoops. Getting your forms together. Getting the ok from your leadership so you can take a trip to the Finance office. Having to deal with a Private straight out AIT and not getting sure answer from them. They just as confused as you are. Lol. Checking your pay to see if the money came through. For months sometimes.

In my gov't roles since 2007, every invoice I've approved (thousands of them) go through an electronic workflow and require a total of three (3) individuals plus an acknowledgement by the respective budget analyst before being passed back to Accounts Payable. It's designed so that there is no funny business in the system. Either the army is using an antiquated paper process and/or somebody else on the inside was scheming with her.
