Both
I have a Jeep 392 and a V-8 Defender
Luv them both
Great comparison Ben, but I believe this is apples to oranges. I have Rubi i4 and wife has Defender i6. They are actually Opposites of each other, Defender is car like with semi Jeep off road use and Wrangler is off roader with semi car like usability. One is 80/20 the other is 20/80. Best Overall Daily is Defender, Best Overall Smiles per mile is Wrangler. Just lucky enough to have both.
A bit late but thanks for the comparison. Perhaps it's apples vs oranges but it's good to know the magnitude of those differences when cross shopping. A toy vs a highly capable daily driver is a good example.
Have you had the Defender off road? The Wrangler might be more capable off road, but the Defender needs all terrain tires for it to do well off road. Defender definitely has more creature comforts, but I would be afraid of scratching the paint. Nice video thanks.
As a Land Rover owner of many years, 1964-1993, a Jeep Unlimited Rubicon owner since April 2012, a former Utah resident (1964-1966, SLC), and 2011-2019 in Springville, I was really interested in hearing your point of view. (I'd have appreciated your video even more had your wife also given her opinion of each of these two vehicles.) I used to sell Land Rovers for several dealerships, Salt Lake City (Mate's Sports Car Clinic), Missoula, MT (Schubach Motors), and San Diego (British Motor Sales and later McKane's Rover Imports). The various Land Rovers (and Rover cars) I owned over the years had nowhere near the reliability my Jeep Wrangler Rubicon has had. But there is something about Land Rovers---at least prior to the last several years of British Leyland's ownership---that no Jeep I've ever driven compares with. Land Rover becomes part of the family. I always felt at one driving the short wheelbase Land Rovers. I could drive my personal last Land-Rover, a 1972 Series III 88* I owned since new that was stolen in 1993 places I wouldn't dare go in my Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon. Part of this is my own shortcoming, as I was sixteen in 1964, and I'm seventy-five now. The other part of the equation is that even under the most adverse conditions, I always felt perfectly at home and even part of the vehicle when driving SWB "Series" Land Rovers. You have a great video here! Very well done. Thank you! Andy McKane, 28 September 2023, Maunaloa, Molokai, Hawaii.
Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 20th Anniversary Edition w/AEV Level II upfit has 37" tires and costs $110K, so that may be a good one to compare with Defender V8 ($107K).
I have had 3 Range Rovers and they were all lemons!!! I drive a Mercedes-Benz 300SLC SUV now, and I couldn't be happier with it!!! Brother James Kendall Moore OSB OFS OSC ✝️
I will go with the landy. So many people have the jeep and to be honest, was never a jeep kind of person
Get a GX…actually I am attracted to the Defender for some reason. That said, you can’t beat a V8…
If Land Rover had given the Defender the option of a manual gearbox then I would choose the Defender but as it is only available with an auto I would have to choose the Jeep.
Rather have the Wrangler for one reason alone. The top and doors come off.
You can get the convertable.. that one beats the wrangler top for sure because you dont' have to physically put it back on.. you can just press a button and it will come up! (Also not hating on your opinion) :)
Wait 3 years to so which has the best resale value? Also see repair-service cost !
Very few vehicles can match the Wrangler depreciation.
Thx for your review!
Currently own a 22 Jeep GC summit reserve! Between my model & your Defender, which would you choose?
Specifically for tech & comfort?
We chose the defender over the jeep, because tech is similar, but we like the looks of the defender and how it drives
@@BenHardyCars thx for your reply Ben! Seriously looking into trading my GS for a Defender!
@@BenHardyCars any serious issues so far?
@@ericcissoko1280 be prepared to visit repair shop very often with a defender.
@@anjansingh3093 that’s what I heard too
Ben, you need a black 392 Durango next! I like the 392 Wrangler over the Defender.🤘
The last saying is right on, Wrangler is a Toy, my daughter has one, my wife has one. I drive a Honda.
My very first question is WHY WHY do I have to set the playback speed to 75% just to understand this motor mouth? Try it before you disagree.
because you're slow in the head
Jeep for sure
Like the Defender and it has more lux feel but I need that v8, so the 392 it is... The Wrangler will also age better imho.
What do you need more than 400 horsepower for? It can't be towing because the Defender tows nearly double.
@@paulelledge8977 I like the acceleration and sound of the HEMI v8. Adds character to the driving experience. For me the 392 is an all around daily driver. I can haul my family. I can haul my toys. I can get it dirty. I can also outrun most cars 0 to 60... I'd consider a Defender v8 if they weren't so expensive. Dealers around here still asking $130k+ for them...used
this new Defender is a luxury car pretending to be an SUV. Jeep is the offroader we deserve
Just because you have a Jeep doesn't mean you can just say that... its biased.
This shows how overpriced the Wrangler 392 is. Its absurd. The 392 should be just a $9,000 option max over a regular Rubicon including the 35's.
Defender 21st century, Jeep 20th century
Is your Jeep pink??
Toyota Land cruiser and lexus LX600 👍👍 are better
Defender should be compared with Grand Cherokee Trailhawk
Not really because the defender is Land Rover is best off-road vehicle it's not our fault they decided to make it some fast luxury POS that does cool things but isn't nearly as capable . Might as well compare the new disco to a Grand Cherokee of some sort but the defender is Land Rovers Heritage as an off-road only company and their Top Model in the off-road category when really we all know that it's the same as a Range Rover and a disco with just a little bit better approaching departure angles but nothing else different as far as suspension and terrain management crap . They should have done what the Grenadier did . So yeah it's good to compare these two because they are apparently the best off-roaders offered by each company LOL take them on some really slow Rocky axle twisters and watch the defender embarrass itself oh it's not a rock crawler neither is the Jeep until you actually set it up as one. And a Jeep handles fine on the street anyone who complains it's just looking to complain I drive a solid axle Discovery 2 with no sway bars and it's lifted and I can roll down the street 70 it's called paying attention just like driving an old 70s boat of a car. The Jeeps handle way better than my disco and I don't complain. And how funny I'm knocking Land Rover as an owner but that's because I keep it real
The Jeep will age like every other wrangler, it will be driven and modified for decades, the Land Rover will be plagued with electrical issues as it get older and becomes too costly to repair and eventually lands in the scrapyard!
Land Rover all the way
Too bad this Defender is what Land Rover considers to be their best off-road capable vehicle and really all it is is a disco or a Range Rover with a little bit better approach and departure angles. Watch that jeep out flex and keep the wheels on the ground and I'm a Land Rover owner saying this. How pathetic
Two with reputation of being junk. Family has had both. Scotty Kilmer is correct. Ok until warranty is off then endless money pit for land rover. This was a 100000 plus model. They dumped it. Cost more to fix than was worth. Jeeps have been pretty good. No major problems. 3.6. The older one cost more to fix, constantly, than a payment on new one.
Wrangler every day. It's unique, rugged and reliable.
Jeep and reliable don’t even go together
Jeep and unique?
Have you driven the Jeep and the Defender?
Both are great vehicles but for different purposes. The Wrangler is unbeatable off road but compromised on road.
The Defender is fabulous on road and can go off road, but not to the level of the Wrangler. You can't beat the articulation of live axles.
As for reliability both vehicles have their issues.
l've got a Defender Commercial but if the Wrangler had been available as a Commercial Vehicle l would have had one of those. As it is, l couldn't put a Wrangler through my business
Unique and reliable…. For a Wrangler…. Officially off your rocker
Buy a Jeep and be unique, just like everyone else.
Both
That Jeep is very hands down an No brainer, the other looks inferior, the interior sucks too much plastic look, grows old fast, The Jeeps an Icon...
It’s simple the jeep 392 is for men and the defender is more suited for a women. Change my mind
This is such a sexualized comment... no one should even read a stupid comment like this.
Here's the real sad part Land Rover is offering that Defender as its most capable and off-road Worthy vehicle.. if it was just something fancy like a Range Rover and they still had solid axle rigs like the jeep that would be different but they don't so how pathetic for an off-road only company with Land Rovers Heritage to offer this Defender as their very best off-road vehicle. People who say you can't compare to the shape are full of crap because Land Rover it is apparently offering it in the same group so if it's not as capable that's their fault. And if you say it should be compared to like a Grand Cherokee or something that's stupid you might as well compare a disco to a Grand Cherokee not a defender. It's not anyone's fault but Land Rover that they made this new Defender so retarded so don't try and defend it
I think you have it wrong, the Defender is designed and set up for how 99.9% of drivers will use it, this being mostly bitumen, they are still and extremely capable off road vehicle, but are not set up or designed for extreme off roading. From a manufacturers point why would they set up a vehicle for the less than 1% of drivers that do extreme off roading and then expect the other 99% to drive around with old school technology, this would make no sense.
Let’s face it, it doesn’t matter what brand of off-road vehicle you drive, most of those drivers will never go extreme off roading, so most manufacturers design there vehicles to suit the majority.
Bottom line is if you are one of the minority that enjoy the more extreme type of off roading, then you have to either modify and set up a Defender type vehicle or buy an old school one.
These type of comparisons are pointless when your comparing a vehicle outside it’s design brief.
Not sure witch one is more reliable, to me they are both bloody awful, maybe the defender is.
uhhhh my Defender 90 V8 p525 would DESTROY that FIAT 😂😂😂 Compare V8 to V8 soyboy
LOL
That 392 is destroy that weak Junk defender.... JUNK
Two overpriced and unreliable cars
Lol
