@@NateXL to be fair people have covered that version of Minecraft but not many have covered the raytraced version I show at the start of the video, which is quite insane
The limits of scratch brought so much to the platform. My 3rd grade teacher first taught me scratch when it was still at scratch 2 running flash. Minecraft isnt the only game with impressive recreations, you showed terraria but geometry dash is also pretty well known and people hace made physics engines for that game as well. Basically im saying that scratch is a great beginner and even higher level coding platform which is so accessible to people
Scratch is amazing for beginners, and while it's scary to move to javascript or a normal written language, Scratch is very friendly for kids, while, once you grow up you should be able to type faster than being able to drag and drop, so it's a great tool.
you can even make chatgpt in vanilla scratch actually by the way, some 3d games actually dont lag on vanilla scratch because these games are made using the pen extension in scratch and the pen is ehh optimized i guess?
I remember years ago when i was a kid, playing the minecraft clones there were back then. This was still in scratch 2.0 times! I even tried to make my own 3d version after being annoyed that most of them were 2d, which failed miserably as i had no idea how 3d stuff even worked lol. But that's one of the things that got me started with coding!
Hey somebody in the technical scratch sphere here. It's nice seeing you cover some of my friend's projects! 3D scratch is like working with an old software renderer like you would see in Doom or Quake, or at least that is the closest thing I could compare it to.
It's definitely cool to have a friend and see that friend be featured. The stuff people have made in Scratch is very impressive, your friend did a great job here.
I once played it, its one of the Top Results in Turbowarp. I also made/work on a game which kind of needs Turbowarp. Its just very very laggy on normal Scratch.

One of my fellow Scratch friends has begun creating a language similiar to JS that can compile to real Scratch code, and yes it's still in very early developement, but fingers crossed! We might have a really good way to write stuff for Scratch.
0:45 You had so many choices on text based programming languages common in game development, like C#, C++, C, Java. And you chose JAVA SCRIPT. It isn't even a compiled language. It is a scripting language. Don't get me wrong, you can make games with it but is isn't common

I've gotten back into scratch recently due to my unity bugging out and not letting me create or open projects

If scratch was more optimized it could genuinely be a good game engine.

i really doubt the "good game engine" part

it wouldn't, it would still lack basic abstraction and features
