  • India's Adani Group is launching a data collection drive of up to one million residents in Asia's largest slum, Dharavi. The area was made famous by the Oscar-winning 2008 film 'Slumdog Millionaire'. Adani aims to redevelop the area with the help of the local government. It will be one of the world's biggest urban redevelopment projects. This is part of a broader plan to make Mumbai slum-free. Officials will scan documents and allocate each home with an identification number. Only residents who have lived in the slum before 2000 will be eligible for free homes. Rebecca Bundhun reports.

The corporation behind the redevelopment is actually a Special Purpose Vehicle where Govt has a stake in the entity. It’s not just Adani. The CEO of the corporation is the Chief Planner of Mumbai. Bureaucrat who is leading Mumbai’s huge infrastructure projects. (250 km of metros, 100 km of be sewage, 70ish km of highways etc)
This project should go ahead despite opposition, these folks are living in squalid conditions for 4 generations. There’s talks going on for far too long, enough is enough and now is the time for action. People will cry, so let them cry harder.

Of course, every businessman will seek profit in every project, they put money and expect profit in return. But the government should make sure these people's business is not
destroyed. And whoever doesn't matter opposition or any other country says some people will lose business and the government has done a favor to someone
they should look into other countries where they had done redevelopment projects these things happen, see Japan, the USA, and EU. See China they will just get your land without
too much noise I hope all the residents get their home and business and don't get secewed.
I respect strong government but wish no country had opposition like the Congress in India, they protest every project and delay Indian progress, but they would do the same
if they were in power but make every project look like a scam when they are not in power. They are like "A Boy who Cried Lion" Now if corruption actually happens no one will take them
seriously and they constantly make them look like they are dragging India back. They want to get in power and turn every project into about corruption and in states where they are
in power they don't let the center government complete projects because their party is not running the country they forget in hate that all these projects in all states are for the people
    no for just one party

In the name of redevelopment. The government gifted that land to Adani at a penny price.

@@kampoengbatoe2699ok im here as an Indian who isn't a rabid BJP supporter to correct you on some facts
      - the world hunger index is very inaccurate, how do you skip BMI while measuring hunger? Also the problem lies in the cuisine, I belong to an upper middle class family and I am still malnourished by those standards, still it doesn't mean I have no food, Yes sure there is unemployment tho the GINI coefficient which marks the economic disparity tells us that the disparity between rich and poor in America and India is nearly the same (0.40 and 0.39 respectively) again I am talking on basis of facts
