- Listed financial services group, Old Mutual, has admitted that the social media uproar over a policy claim that was not paid, is a complex issue.
The company says it continues to monitor whether the negative publicity will see some customers cancelling their policies.
Analysts have pointed out that companies have to continuously put strategies in place to manage the impact of negative social media exposure, and handle the matter sensitively.

Old Mutual must institute investigation of complaints and not sweep anything under the carpet, otherwise people will continue to withdraw their savings from them.
Insurance companies should be investigated and policies needs to be revised, people are paying huge amounts of there hard earned money on policies and at the end get nothing back for it.
We pay our policy premiums and Old Mutual pay the returns at the end of term. What's complex?

They are not the only company that does this, Nedbank did not pay my uncle's shares either, which we should have inherited from his will, they had a shittie excuse and we lost it, they are mostly all the same

Yes there is but for many people out there who do not have a voice when it comes to dealing with these large insurers etc there is no alternative.
I had a lot of jewellery stolen on 20 January this year. The fact this was traumatic enough, dealing with the local SAPS and trying to claim on insurance through my broker has just compounded this trauma. Two months later and numerous visits from assessors and insurance validation services I have still not had any feedback from the broker or the insurance company. They have been very happy to take my monthly premium regularly (and I was told by the assessor that I am actually over insured) the only conclusion that I can come to is that the insurance company id looking for loopholes etc to either avoid paying or to see how little they can pay.
And let's not talk about SAPS - I have personally given them details of the vehicle used, photographs of the vehicle, description and voice recordings of the thief, items for fingerprinting, GPS co ordinates of where all the cell phone calls to me came from, they have still not arrested the person. And this despite the fact that he has been known to have tried to scam other people.
Honesty is NOT the best policy in this country.
