I liked Jonas Quinn.
What an emotionally draining episode, right? It must've been for me too, twenty years ago. Although one of the better episodes altogether.
"Nah they're not gonna kill Daniel"
StarGate Fans: "First time?"
😂😂😂
Hasn't Daniel died several times by this point? :-D
I want to give you a Like but it's at 38 now an I'm not sure
My reaction was, you'll get used to it
Sg1: Oh my god, they killed Dr Jackson
fans: you bastards!!!
This episode made me cry more over a fictional character than I ever have in my life. Daniel Jackson raised me as a child from watching the original Stargate movie countless times when I was little, and then to watch him die in such a horrific way was the most painful thing on my heart. Cried so hard I was in pain 💀
Take a bow Micheal Shanks......
Oh I've been waiting for THIS one!
Don't worry about Daniel 'Dies a Lot' Jackson.
The Sh..tuff is getting real now. :)
Notice when Daniel ascends, he glows and turns into a white glowing squid like Sur'ri and apopthis son did in the Dark Daniel episode? This is a rhetorical question because its never answered but this means Olma ascended the child. WHEN???
One: Don't NEED someone to ascend you. Orlin ascended himself in the end.
Two: No one needs to be ascended. The whole point of all the sayings is that you must truly believe in YOURSELF. Your preconceived notions are BAD. Once you know you can ascend, you ascend yourself. Any notion you need someone else is WRONG
If you immediately know the candlelight is fire, the meal was cooked a long time ago.
If you understand something like candlelight is fire, it is because of a pre-conceived notion that was already in you.
If you immediately can ascend, that is because you believe in yourself and can ascend yourself through your self-belief
The river tells no lies, though standing on the shore the dishonest man still hears them
If you think it takes Oma to ascend you are the dishonest person hearing lies from the river.
I love how this episode starts with "Daniels gonna die" so you're like "lol sure, Jan" and then it ends with Daniel dying and its all shocked pikachu face
This episode always gets me. No matter how many times I've seen it.
Same, I still cry when i watch the episode.
I miss sg1 a lot. i liked atlantis, but i will always like sg1 more.
I don't cry because Daniel is leaving I cry because Daniel has ascended to a higher plain. Mine are tears of joy. I also love how Teal'c salutes when Daniel ascended.
I cried so hard, the brave hero Daniel, he got blamed for something he didn’t do , he saved a planet full of innocent people and now he’s got accusations against, And I Love How Jack was the main dude who stood by Daniel, the chemistry between him and Jack is what made me cry more, when Jack told Daniel he’s not gonna take the Fall for this
Me too mane
What Daniel did when that reactor went out of control was an overdramatized version of what Louis Slotin did at Los Alamos during the manhattan project. Took him 9 days to die.
Was that the incident with the demon core?
@@Vonias one of the incidents with it, yup
@@Vonias yes, the second one after Harry Daghlian was fatally irradiated by the same core.
The way they were experimenting with that thing was just so ludicrously dangerous, it's positively mindboggling. And it's not like they didn't know what it could do (Slotin had spent several weeks watching his colleague die from a similar exposure) and they weren't stupid either (the guy had a PhD), it's just that they were extraordinarily arrogant and thought that they couldn't possibly make a mistake. He was using a flathead _screwdriver_ to keep the two halves of the enclosure apart and slipped. They were reckless and paid for it with their lives. Literally nobody is above making mistakes, assume that they could happen and plan for them.
This, in my opinion is where the show goes from good sci-fi to great long term story.
"Dude, that's the end of Daniel Jackson. They just killed my favourite character" - were exactly my sentiments in 2002.
I remember when this ep first came out.
Everyone was like: "They ain't gonna kill Daniel"
*Daniel asends*
Everyone: *Shocked pikachu face*
*Daniel Jackson has left the chat*
Daniel Jackson set auto response to “afk brb”.
Spoiler:
Heroes is gonna kill this man.
That it did, his reaction to Heroes is one of my favourites purely because that two-parter is like an SG1 movie. So well put together.
One of the few diamonds in a pretty rough season. I wish the show remained that serious in the later seasons.
That theme right at the end is pure greatness from the great Joel Goldsmith, and the base for most Atlantis stuff
Yeah tried not cry I failed. I've seen this episode so many times and yet I still cried. This episode and the finale of YGO DM hits hard and manages to get tears flowing every time. Daniel Jackson remains my favorite character. He's the reason Stargate will always be my favorite ahead of Star Trek and Star Wars. I love all three, but Stargate was the one that stuck with me most and Daniel Jackson was a large part of why.
I've seen this episode over 10 times and cried everytime. Michael Shanks acting is top notch. Everyone expects Daniel to survive, being a lead role and all. But the actor himself says, it becomes a running joke on how many times he gets killed in this show.
He's dead like 5 times by end of this episode iirc. not including robot-Daniel or other-timelines or other-realities.
I’ve watched this episode so many times and it still makes me cry. The acting from the entire cast and the music are so top-notch. It’s absolutely heartbreaking, especially as even Teal’c ends up getting moved. It wasn’t even the season finale. 😭😭😭Still, at least we got Jonas, who’s an absolute joy to have around.
I've seen this show so many times, watched so many reruns, but I could only ever watch this one a few times over the years. It still gets me every time.
The actor wanted to pursue other projects like live theatre, I believe. It was a hard hitting episode that really confused me at the time, because it seemed to come out of nowhere, for no reason.
It was also the penultimate episode before the end of the Showtime run, so they weren't sure what the future would bring.
I also heard that he wasn't happy with the character's direction any longer.
The producers didn't like that the SG-1 fandom skewed so heavily female, so they decided to get rid of Daniel. Yes, Shanks did a lot of guest roles on other shows and some live theater. And then season 6 got low ratings...
We'll probably never know fully what the story behind him leaving is, but the official theory is that Shanks wasn't happy being on the show because he felt he should be a bigger star on bigger projects/he felt his character had been sidelined and was being overshadowed by Jack and Sam so he chose to leave.
@@tomaszenko13 For some reason people REALLY didn't like Jonas. I've never been able to understand it.
Oma: The Universe is vast and we are so small. There is really only one thing we can ever truly control. Whether we are good or evil.
Love that saying.
This episode is one of the reasons of love Stargate so much. They have me crying over a character leaving 20 years later.
Just found you bud. Yeah, this 48 year old 6’1” 230 pound dude cried just the same. Not that any of that stuff matters but I feel you. It’s ok for guy feelings to happen even if it’s over “silly stuff”. This series found be in 2009 when I had lost everything. Was a welcome distraction. Thank you for this video my friend. -John
This and "The Shrine" from Atlantis always manage to make me bawl my eyes out...
Sunday from Atlantis too for me
The Shrine destroyed me the first time I watched it. When that episode aired my Nana was in the middle of her fight with dementia and it hit way too close to home. David Hewlett was phenomenal in that episode.
@@Reece_Hart Losing oneself to dementia or alzheimer is defintely one of my greatest fears. Sorry you had to experience that. And yes, David Hewlett's performance was phenomenal.
Yeah, that one is rough.
@@healthtrooper thanks for saying so
I joined Patreon solely to watch this episode several months ago, then saw the amount of sg1 he had watched and been a patron ever since 👍
This was the penultimate episode of Season 5, when it was cancelled by Showtime. It was then picked up by the Sci Fi Channel (now Syfy) for Season 6.
Cant wait for your reaction for the famous Elevator talk :D
First Buffy now this. These past couple of weeks has been a rollercoaster of emotions.
My god, I hadn’t realized how far UA-cam is behind Patreon. That’s crazy. 😆
How far???
@@tez.3508 Ah…well…earlier today I just saw his full length reaction to the Atlantis episode Critical Mass. So he’s halfway through SG-1 season 9 and Atlantis season 2. Heh.
Dude. I cry every time on this episode too.
I've cried to this episode more than once. I can admit it. It just... hits, right in the feels. Especially the final-bit.
Also iirc, by this time, Daniel has technically died, and then revived what... Nox Episode, technically killed, attack-on-earth-by-Apophis and Klorel he also technically is killed, technically he also dies in the body of Machello (ressucitated by Doc Fraiser), and then he also dies in this episode.
Not to mention Robot-Daniel getting his head blown off, or Alternate Reality Daniel that is dead, or Daniel in the 2010-episode that also dies, etc. etc. But they are all either not-biological-Daniel or it's Daniel from some alternate timeline or reality.
I'm not crying, you're crying!!! Up till this point you realize the writers have been taking it easy on us and have the ability to completely gut us any time they want. Something both SG-1 and Atlantis are both really good at, sprinkling in these emotionally draining episodes throughout the series, which quite frankly makes them all the more effective! Another show to check out, which also has next level writing and ability to absolutely floor you is Scrubs, both shows have absolutely stellar writing crews!
Among many, it was The Fifth Race and this I was looking forward to you seeing.
Man even watching this abridged reaction I *still* cry at this episode. It's just so powerful.
Actually a very heavy episode. 👌
It is so much fun to watch your SG reactions, good work. 😊
This episode made both my fiancé and daughter cry. Too bad youtube hadn't really blown up back when we watched it together.
The Episode "Menace" 2 before this with Reese and her Replicators was being filmed as September 11 happened CJ had family/friends in the NYFD and was pretty cut up during shooting.
Yeah, I had the same 'No, not my favourite character!' reaction when I first watched the episodes as a kid.
Love your Stargate reactions!
not sure have i mentioned this to you before but
you really should check out a tv show called andromeda. gene roddenberry's lost masterpiece, especially after this episode,
he created it before star trek, but couldn't sell it to any of the networks, tried to do it in the 60 & 70's,
wasn't until his widow Majel, rediscovered few of his old work and that was one of them,
long story short, first season aired in 2000 and 110 episodes were filmed
Daniel: *I have no idea/don't know* 2(45)
I forgot that his most common phrase was also his last.
We finally got here then.
havent seen the video yet, but.....i've been waiting....brace yourself.
This is what you get for asking when is Daniel getting buff :( :/
did you know the voice fo Thor is Daniel Jackson
I know you are seasons ahead of this point now so I am ok with saying Daniel is the Kenny of Stargate. The man just keeps dying and coming back 😂
*LAW OF EQUIVALENT EXCHANGE*
I know that this is an emotional episode. And not that it's a bad thing. But I didn't expect you to be hit quite so hard by it. But it shows that you're human and just how invested you actually are in the show.
Bring on the next episode reaction!
Hum. Didn’t think your favourite was Daniel. My favourite would either be Jack O Neill or Telec.
How hard of a dichotomy is THAT, to watch? Seeing Sam use a Goa'uld palm device, then watching the doctor resort to "Roll him onto his side, we gotta keep his airways clear!"
The episode we've been waiting for you to react to! Wooo! Arguable the best episode and the one that makes me cry every time! This is a turning point imo, just like "The Fifth Race" ^-^
This episode fucking breaks me. So glad to finally see your reaction to it
The main cast dies a lot, but Daniel dies on the same level as Buffy.
Actually thinking about it I think Jack probably get killed the most times.
Last year I shilled out those bucks for Patreon just to see the reaction to Abyss.
And also to Prometheus, two birds with one stone. Money well spent.
O, gracious...we're finally here. The moment we've all been buckling our lips, to avoid spoiling. Ugh.
Oh my god you failed that mission man. You missed the actual most important part right at the very end!!!
As someone else whose favorite character is Daniel Jackson, I totally get it. This was my 2nd favorite episode of SG1 and its hard to each and every time.
Allways great to see Parker Lewis on SG1... a combination I never knew I needed... And yeah, killing Daniel off was a huge suprise back in the day. But Michael Shanks wanted out, so they did him the favour!
You can't win, Naquadria. If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine.
Only two more episodes until the big transition!
im trying to remember what Michael did after he left Stargate. I think a couple crappy films lol. I seem to remember him as Hawkman in smallville, but that was long after SG1 was finished up. Then a bunch of 2-bit parts, and some directing.
What a score by Joel Goldsmith. I know it's fiction but I hope he ascended :)
Press 'F' to pay respects.
2001? I had just left Secondary School.
For some of us it took a while to sink in what had happened. Sh*t became extra real after this episode.
Hi fun fact in Buffy Nichalos Brandon was sick and wasn't in the episode intervention, his twin brother kelly filled in for him :) Two Xanders again with two buffys
Well we know you've watched the rest of Sg1 by now but yeah hope you enjoyed the next season and what happens following this.
He's only about half way through S9 at this point, so not the rest yet, but getting there!
I stopped watching this for at least half of season 6 when it first aired because they'd killed off my favourite character. I eventually got back to it, by wondering about how Daniel would react to the circumstances in season 6, in my head he hadn't died and they'd just recast his character.
Not so fun fact by the way, radiation poisoning is horrific stuff, and arguably one of the worst ways to die. At very low levels, radiation exposure is effectively a sunburn, in fact that's why sun burns you, radiation. Going up a little higher, radiation has the potential to give you cancer in 20 or 30 years, higher still and the timeframe for that reduces, and the severity and widespread nature of the cancer can increase. Still higher doses of radiation can cause hellish problems. At the very highest end in a matter of days or hours your skin can melt off, you can be in constant agony, delusional states, you will lose blood and fluids very quickly, you'll be unable to speak, but largely conscious unless someone has the good sense to anesthetize, sedate, or put a bullet in you. The worst part is that right away you will have no idea that you've been exposed to radiation, on the high end it's totally undetectable except by geiger counter, and if it's really really high, you might taste copper in your mouth while you're being exposed, but you won't see it, hear it, smell, or even feel it, for a couple hours. You'll be able to walk around just fine, shoot some hoops, but after a few hours you'll be just like Daniel and it will not be fun.
.... they did kill my favorite character ... yeah so true ... :(
: Lol, we all get through that phase of denial at the beginning of this episode. It's like "Wtf no way". And at the end "Well.. Yes way..."
Kelowna is named after Kelowna, British Columbia.
"Burning some calories"
Well.... you aren't wrong.
This episode mirrors the demon core incident during WW2 and the early tests in the Manhattan project.
All I will say is right about the time Jonas Quinn starts to grow on you as a replacement for Daniel on the team there will be another surprise. A good one.
I had a crush on Michael Shanks/Daniel so this was not a happy episode for me. But at least what he did was heroic.
An episode for the heart.
I'm a Patron, so this was a while ago for us, but I just had to watch it again. I just wanted to give you a big hug! ❤
Ascended do not need a body, they are beyond matter and time. They can have a body if they want. Remember the son of Shauree, the harsessis or the monk in the temple.
I didn't know you were a full metal alchemist fan.
Don't worry- Season Six has a great fourth member to the SG-1 team.
I'll never not cry watching this episode.
I have watched SG-1 SOOO many times over the years, I know whats gonna happen to Daniel, the words "tell Jacob to stop" still destroy me...coupled with the music and the final scenes between O'Neill and Daniel (where are you going...I dont know...)...tv at its best
Lots of manly tears. Great reaction. Keep em coming!
I dislike Jonas got so much hate after this episode.
Ahh, everyone remembers the first...
As others have mentioned he felt as tho they underdeveloped his character so he decided to leave for a while
The actor wanted to leave theshow for while so they gave him this send off
This episode really made me want them to release the ost of the show. Such a shame
When I watched sg1 back in the day I missed this episode and we didn’t have on demand . So the next episode was without Daniel and it took a while to find out what had actually happened to him
"There is only ever one thing that we can truly control - whether we are good, or evil"
This is where it all started. The day Daniel turned into a çat
Daniel's probably died at least once per season
Daniel's second funeral I guess.
15:30 His body has turned to pure energy.
Ah, the episode we've all been waiting for. It's taken twenty years for me to be able to watch this one without crying. Still got misty eyed though.
Their not going to kill Daniel.... welllllll
Meanwhile in Indiana
Joe: NNNNOOOOO
This is not the first time Daniel has died by the way. He died in the original movie while being brought back by a sarcophagus, got killed by apophis while getting brought back by the Nox, and now died or ascended here.
He was also dying during Apophis's failed attack on earth during the Season 1 finale/Season 2 opening, though he put himself in the sarcophagus before he actually died, so not sure if that fully counts...
watched it when I was patreon. That is one of the episodes that opens up to a big part as you already know :D
Welp. Here we are. God, this one's...yeah. This one hits hard.
