The idea for the video came to me while I was walking through the Ionio metro (Rome), a rather liminal metro station that, one day, had one of the alarms that had gone haywire and emitted a sound very similar to the one heard at the beginning of Left hand suzuki method, after the sound of the bong going off. This should give you an idea of the mood of the whole video
Bruh, this looks like it EXACTLY could have been a phase 1 Gorillaz music video, especially the monstrous imageries using 90s/2000s-quality CGI and magazine photo cutouts. Even the occasional head tilt with one eye widening is such a nice touch and really captured the old facial expressions.
Also, the "Competition Winner" was such a great reference to Rockit.

@@Kamy41 It definitely shows! I loved that second "classical" segment when you distorted the sound wave, made Noodle faceless, and gave her a blank speech bubble. Definitely captured the energy of Rockit when 2D eventually became muted as Pazuzu takes over complete control of the vocals, repeating the titular "Rockit". Not to mention, you nailed the moving camera style of Tomorrow Come Today. You set your goals for this project, and you knocked them out of the park! I hope to see more of your high-quality work in the future!

I can definitely appreciate the newer songs and a lot of them still are hard bops. Plus, part of Albarn's "identity" is the deconstruction of identities and genres, so him constantly experimenting in different territories is what garners a lot of his appeal and respect. With all that being said, I wholeheartedly agree with you. I would kill to hear more songs and see more music videos akin to the styles of the debut and Demon Days albums.
@@VictorSnakevenom1 yeah to me I feel like the whole deconstruction of identity and killing idols like fed into the ideas that the old Gorillaz were putting out sonically as well as visually. Now they feel like a punk band that's sold out to indie radio because it's easier and it makes money. Like even their old radio friendly songs back in the day were weird and experimental, but I guess they just don't feel the need to do that anymore?
I think the music is good enough still. But I want to come back to it like I come back to those early albums.
@@idiosimian It makes sense in lore why their sounds keep changing. S/T was Russel taking the lead on production, hence the heavy dub, hip-hop & trip hop influences. Demon Days was a teenaged Noodle taking the reigns with Russel and 2D along for the ride. Plastic Beach was Murdoc's turn with Cyborg Noodle & the kidnapped 2D. The Fall was entirely 2D. While Humanz and The Now Now are more collaborated efforts, more so with the former and the latter because Murdoc was in jail lol. Song Machine leans more towards 2D IMO and Cracker Island is another collaborated effort, perhaps an influence of Noodle becoming the mom of three rambunctious bandmates.

This feels like such an official lost Gorillaz music video! I love how you incorporated more modern internet horror into it in a way that feels exactly like how horror was in phase 1. It fits right in! Everything from the grungy colours to even the hand movements oozes with style.
I'm really hoping this gets a lot of attention. I have an odd habit of finding obscure videos with 1000ish views and under, and coming back later to see they have millions of views. If we're lucky, it'll be the same case here. ;D

Though as a suggestion, if you’re wanting to get more views, I’d suggest maybe changing the thumbnail. As much as I love this thumbnail art, I think videos with close-ups, like Noodle’s face for instance, tends to be more eye catching.
Whether you do that is up to you, but I hope you get views regardless!

You perfectly captured the surreal and horror-like elements from Phase One's artwork. In a way, it reminds me of those strange creepy areas from Kong HQ. Gorillaz' Phase One has the perfect aesthetic, and there's so many songs from that era ripe for music videos. Would love to see Gorillaz' zombie-filled roots come back one day.

I love how this captures the phase 1 art style and has very fluid animation while bringing a modern concept like analog horror to the mix. Yet despite having a modern concept, the way you implemented it makes it feel like what would analog horror look like back then, thus making the video feel timeless. This was so well edited too, like the audio was very in sync with the music.
Also, really love how Russel helped out the boys in the end by punching that backrooms creature.

Thank you!! ❤️ Actually it didn't take me long, about a week and a half. In 3 days I learnt a bit of Blender and the remaining days I animated the drawn gorillaz images with meshes. This is what happens when I'm nervous about a thesis for the academy that I have to write xD

You did an impressive job, you perfectly replicated the style of the first phase of Gorillaz; I would really like it to stay that way, but they have already evolved. If I showed this video to someone who hasn't listened to Gorillaz in a while, they'd probably think it was made by Hewlett himself.And you are very detailed, because left-hand Suzuki's method is precisely about playing the violin under hallucinogenic effects.Also that combination of old horror with liminal spaces and backrooms is exquisite, and I suffer from anxiety (I usually use this type of content to overcome anxiety, Which is ironic because it's supposed to cause more anxiety lol)...But bottom line, you did a great job, you earned a new subscriber!

DUDE, HOLY SHIT!!! this is alongside some of the best fanmade music videos i've seen for gorillaz. the way the first phase's aesthetic was captured was marvelous. it really feels like something 2D would dream up during a bad trip, with the zombie visuals and brains.. very in-character. the weird thing chasing him kinda made me jump once or twice too. i think if gorillaz made their first album today instead of 2001, considering the horror climate of this decade being much different, i think it'd be exactly like this. wonderful work. i've watched this several times already.
