Demystifying the Cost Components of Modular Furniture
Choosing the right materials, finishes, and hardware plays a crucial role in determining the final cost of your modular furniture. This video explores these key factors:
Carcass Material (Board): The internal framework of the furniture. Options include pre-laminated particle board, post-laminated engineered wood (MDF), and post-laminated high-density high-moisture resistant (HDHMR) board.
Carcass Laminate: The decorative surface on the carcass.
Shutter Material (Board): The front-facing surface of the furniture. Options include HDHMR board, which can be laminated, acrylic-finished, PU-painted, or veneered.
Shutter Finish: The final aesthetic touch, including laminates, acrylics, PU paint, polished veneers, and glass.
Hardware: Hinges, channels, handles, profiles, and drawer runners all contribute to functionality and cost.
Accessories: Utensil trays, grain trolleys, bottle pull-outs, dish racks, and corner unit solutions add convenience but affect the price.
Making Informed Choices: Expert Recommendations from DNB Interiors
DNB Interiors understands the importance of selecting the right materials for your specific needs. They recommend water-resistant boards like WPC (Wood Plastic Composite) for areas prone to moisture, such as kitchen sink areas. They also advise customers to visit the factory to ensure the chosen materials are used during production.
Storage Solutions: Shelves vs. Drawers
Modular furniture offers a variety of storage options, from simple shelves to smooth-operating drawers. Drawers can utilize different channel systems, from basic channels to soft-close, quadro, or the stylish Innotech system, each impacting the cost.
Exploring Material Options for Modular Furniture
The video delves into the different types of boards and finishes commonly used in modular furniture:
Boards: Pre/Post-Laminated Particle Board, Post-Lam Engineered Board (MDF), Pre/Post-Lam HDHMR Board, Post-Lam Plywood
Kitchen Shutter Finishes: Laminate, Acrylic, PU Paint, Polished Veneer, Glass
Wardrobe Shutter Finishes: Laminate, Acrylic, Glass (Clear or Fluted), PU Paint, Leather Finish
Beyond Materials: The Complete Picture of Modular Furniture
Modular furniture encompasses more than just materials. Here's a breakdown of the key components:
1. Designing: Creating a customized layout for your space.
2. Hardware: Functional elements like hinges, channels, and handles.
3. Accessories: Enhancements for convenience and organization.
4. Finishing: The final touches that define the look and feel.
5. Understanding the Manufacturing Process
The video also offers a glimpse into the machinery used in modular furniture production:
1. Hot press for laminating boards
2. Edge bending machines
3. Board cutters
4. Multi-boring machines for hinge installation
5. Pin routers
It's important to be aware that standard modular furniture manufacturing doesn't include the following services:
1. Civil Work (demolition, wall construction)
2. Electrical Work
3. Plumbing Work
4. Stone Work (countertops)
5. Tile Work
6. Customer-Provided Items
Due to varying preferences and price points, these items are typically not included but can be integrated during installation:
1. Kitchen Countertops (Granite, Stone, Tile)
2. Sinks
3. Hobs
4. Chimneys
5. Appliances
6. Electrical, Civil & Plumbing Services (before or during installation)
The video concludes by highlighting how DNB Interiors works with customers to ensure their chosen appliances fit seamlessly within the modular furniture design.
By understanding these cost factors and considerations, you can make informed decisions when investing in modular furniture for your Indian home.

Thanks for your query!
1. Acrylic: There is no acrylic manufacturer in India yet. The traders import, and lam acrylic board manufacturers also import & process on MDF, HDF, and HDHMR. The country of ORIGIN can be Austria, Turkey, China, Korea & more. There are two types of acrylic A. Unicolor which is normally 1mm &
2. B. Transparent backed by paper to give that color or design. The Indian manufacturer is laminating that paper, to the best of my knowledge.
The HDHMR should have the proper density & right glue to make it ( High moisture Resistant). We use Action Tessa, Cross Bond, Adler
