he ain't kidding about those woodland scenic shakers lasting. i bought one when i got started back in 06, and i STILL haven't used all of it. Also, mixed herb spice shakers make fantastic forest/jungle ground cover. smells like it too. (that's what we call 4D immersion)
Super inspirational. will be buying a Proxxon hot wire cutter in a few weeks now. Hope they give you a nice kick back :-) Cant thank you enough for these videos. They have changed my DM style so much.
Hey..... I only have so much money man and space for tools. I insist you stop making me want that wire cutter! Great video and use of the tool. Super awesome way to break down some repetitive stuff (I hate repetitive tasks)
@@BlackMagicCraftOfficial Yes, you could - just make sure to use a few longer 1/8"bolts to mount the wire (cheap nickel-chrome wire is available from different electronics stores). and the 12V supply from the 3D printer can be used to heat the wire. Control the temperature by making the wire longer or shorter is an easy trick. I started in this way and made different cutters up to 30"long to cut pink foam in thinner plates.
I wanted to share with you a technique I tried. While the paint was wet with the paint/mod podge mixture I sprinkled salt. When it dried I sprayed the adhesive glue over it to secure the salt. It gave the piece a very cool texture and look.
if you want a desert tile after cutting the lines.(little deeper) coat with pva than fine sand. works great. washes will bring it out and thin modpoge mix won't take away.
I've made dungeon and castle wall pieces with drop-ceiling tiles, which already have the texture, but I like the foam idea. I have a D&D campaign starting soon, and I wasn't planning on making terrain pieces, but now I think I might!
Just wanted to let you know that I made a set of these! I put magnets in them so they'll stick together better on the table! I'm going to be running Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan for my Tomb of Annihilation players in a few weeks, so these are perfect!
This is my second time to watch and these video's are great, but in need to add two cents to this. You reset your T-square and measure each time. Please add a paper strip near the bottom next to the T-square that are marked for those places. Better yet if you are really into this take the T-square off and get your SS ruler and make a jig of two wooden square stock for the edges of your base plate. Cut slots in the stock to the measurements needed and just move your rules to the mated slots, each time, and you are there. Keep up the great work! Enjoy
Another great video! This could not of come at a better time as my PCs are about to stumble into the ancient shrine of a forest guardian! Time to get crafting! Thanks Jeremy!
I love the regular releases, there's always an episode waiting for me when I get home from work Friday evening. The perfect start to the weekend :) thanks!
Great video. I really appreciate the time that you put into this instructional video. You've made it very clear, step-by-step, which is exactly what I need in this type of craft video! Excellent! I am between projects right now, probably get going on some tiles this summer. Thx!
If you buy a heat gun, it will expand those lines you cut and you can contoll the width of the line by how long you hold the heat gun on the tile. I have used this in form and many other materials.
I'm confused....I showed photos three times, did you miss them? Or do you mean you just want to see more of those photos? If so go follow of facebook where I post pics more often, don't want to bog down videos with too many still shots.
Thanks, you're right i missed them on facebook. I just really enjoyed the stills you had on the ending of the video and wanted to see more of it in detail :) Great job once again and thanks for the reply!
Hey man just started watching your videos and I for one love them! You do a kick ass job man, now for the proxxon bar I have had the same issues but a while back I had bought some mini C clamps from a hobby store and I use one at the end of that slider bar makes it a whole lot easier to control when doing cuts and jazz. Just thought I'd share that. Anyway keep up the good work Holmes!
Nicely done. I could see having large man eating plants. small to large ferns, as a separate or detachable option. Oh, and 1 tip you might like better than watered down PVA. Try 1/2 Vodka in stead of water.
LOL...Well, I am mostly Scottish, Irish, Welsh, Native American, English, Italian, and Greek on my mother's side. And German, Russian, Danish, and French on my dad's. So, I'm basically a mutt with at least 3 pedigrees (titles which my family has held, which has been confirmed, but means nothing, considering neither I or my family live in the UK or Europe.)
Awesome! Great job! Its a bit hard to fathom the synchronicity of it but I am actually building tiles for the 'Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan' module as we speak! Perfect timing on your tutelage. I guess I will have to go and max out your Patreon so I can have you design something for my next Greyhawk adventure! Desert of Desolation series perhaps?
Great videos!! Started watching about a week ago and can’t stop! Would it be beneficial to make a 1” jig that’s 3”‘s wide? Like a comb so you can just run these over each time?
Have you thought about buying a solder iron kit with a variety of tips. You can use the razor blade tip and you wouldn't have to follow up with the pen.
quickie question for the acolytes. can you buy those fiskers cutting boards in the UK..have only seen other makes..and in different colours. I would like to buy from your site, but shipping kills me
i like to get some of my plants from the pet store. i dont now if you have them up there, but petsmart has a decent set of terrarium plants for five dollars or so. usually i just go for the $1 items and the clearance stuff.
My brother in law was talking a few years ago about how he wants a hot wire cutter for his Halloween Decorations, if I can get people in on it for a group gift for him we will definitely buy through your links! (And if I get the time and space to do terrain work I might get one for myself at some point.)
Excellent tutorial man! Just wondering if it is possible to create these without using a hot wire cutter? They are quite expensive, at least where I come from
I know I'm like three years late on this (cut me some slack, I'm just getting into it all, haha)... would a 3d printed or maybe carved stamp work to imprint the brick pattern? Maybe a few variations so the pattern doesn't stand out. Could cut out what seems to be the most labor intensive part.
* * There’s a more recent video of his that has some neat brick/cobble pattern rolling pins - they do a pretty impressive job in next to no time at all!
Why do the tiles need to be so thick? I want to make dungeon tiles for Hero Quest and putting such thick tiles next to the board wouldn‘t look so nice… Do you think quarter inch/6mm would also work?

One of the issues my group has always had with the published cardstock tile system DnD made was that the tiles like to slip around and slide past eachother, or get bumped. Do you think there is any value to putting magnets on the bottom, or sides, or in the corners of tiles to let you layer them and slot them in with-out worrying about them moving and getting knocked apart by a die roll?
I think magnets are way overkill, and would probably look bad....I play on a felt surface and have no issue with stuff sliding around. You can also do dabs of hot glue under the tiles so they don't slide around on a normal table
Black Magic Craft we usually play on a plastic or glass matt for dry erase but I think a felt surface would help all around. next step I suppose is building a small frame and gluing that to the gaming table ;)
These are cool. Might use them when my players encounter some yanti. Any chance you can make some sci-fi inspired terrain? For me I play tyranids and not sure how to make some for wargaming.
Just made the move from player to DM and have been binge watching Wyloch, Drunken & Dragons, DMScotty, DMInfo, and obviously your great vids. I'm sold on your style tiles and will be mass producing them but I had a question. How would one incorporate walls while using these tiles? I'm going to have a random maze style encounter, akin to Molok's Maze but with a swarming spiders, but that would require walls.
To be honest I don't have a great answer for this because I fundamentally don't believe in walls. I think they are an unnecessary item that interferes with game play. But others who also feel the need to use them have added them, essentially using wyloch's wall method. You could also switch the grid to a 1.25" one like he does, but make them out of foam like I do.
That's the thing, walls really restrict a tile's usage. I play on a black game surface, and utilize the negative space to represent walls. I put little 2"x1" tiles with a door on it between tiles and this leaves a 1" negative space that is where the wall would be.
The more I do this, the more I realize just having lots and lots of 3x3 tiles is best....as many as you can make. I like to have two 12x12 tiles as well to quickly drop big areas, and a handful of "hall" tiles that are 2x4, and some 1x2 tiles that exist to hold doors between tiles (creating negative space walls)
Thanks for this. Let me ask you, do you think this could work well for getting a more.... wintery look? Change the green flock for snow flock, and maybe dry brush some blue?
Hello, I just found your channel! Love the work you've done so far. I was wondering if you've thought about recording your D&D games? Or maybe you already do. Just a thought. Great stuff!
Okay to any of the hobbyist and other makes that do this sort of work. I am one wanting to get into this and other craft/prop works like this. BUT I have an idea for my computer desk pretty much making it look like a giant DnD Board/dungeon with maybe a tower in the corner some ruins and so on. My question is. Would it be better to make my wooden table top look grid like or to make tiles and piece it out and so on. the foam tiles wouldn't work well with my arms sitting on them using a mouse and keyboard would it? they would wear down and fall apart after a little bit. Can anyone give me an idea on how to do this?
he ain't kidding about those woodland scenic shakers lasting. i bought one when i got started back in 06, and i STILL haven't used all of it. Also, mixed herb spice shakers make fantastic forest/jungle ground cover. smells like it too. (that's what we call 4D immersion)
Like a bob Ross of dnd set pieces.
"Just add some happy little cracks in the stone. Maybe there's one that lives right over here. Yeah, and let's give him a friend...."
I know this is not a new video, but I think it has my favourite piece of advice, "Do not be careful"
Super inspirational. will be buying a Proxxon hot wire cutter in a few weeks now. Hope they give you a nice kick back :-) Cant thank you enough for these videos. They have changed my DM style so much.
I like the tin foil ball method. Almost totally random and unique look every time you use it.
Sometimes the simplest solution is the best one.
True!
Id love to see you do some "Angkor Wat" type ruins.... Trees grown through ancient walls and structures, it'd be a awesome area to have an adventure
Holy crap, these are the most beautiful tiles I've ever seen! Definitely going to pick up this hobby soon!
The close-up shots at the end were really cool, thanks
Always posting photos on facebook and patreon, a lot that don't make it to videos
it's great that you have a video on very easy dungeon tiles and an other on advanced dungeon tiles. very scalable
Yea, once you got the basics down you can do all sorts of little variations

you can make a hot wire cutter cheaply. Google it
I actually really like that stone well shown at the end in the glamour shots. The little rope going into the nasty epoxy-water is excellent.
There’s probably a video about it 🙃
Interesting, sounds like a fractal approach to get the look of broken tiles. Great idea!

Every week, you come up with another must build item. I'm never going to catch up:) Really interested in also making a Mediterranean desert tile set.
Yea doing these and keeping them in a kind of desert style is on my list of things to do as well, but who knows when I'll get the chance.
Glad I found your channel. Now I want to make some set pieces.
To make really fine turf use a small coffee grinder and grind it to however course you want it to be.
Transfer the turf to a larger round container like the wash container. You can then drop and tap right over the container.
I love the regular releases, there's always an episode waiting for me when I get home from work Friday evening. The perfect start to the weekend :) thanks!
Yea, I spend pretty much every saturday strictly working on the video so it is ready for next friday. I think the consistency is really important.

Yup. A good knife and a straight edge will do just fine, only take a lot longer.
Excellent! cheers!

I think they look great but 2 or 3 of the ferns slightly next to eachother would make the ferns look better then just 1 by itself.

It just occurred to me that if you used a white wash at the end, it would look like a marbled floor of an old Temple or something. Hmmm
These are cool. Might use them when my players encounter some yanti.

Need to make grass tile sets
Great content as usual!
Thanks :)
How do you take superglue off of your tweezers after?
Cut it off
Fenomeno! 😮🔝
So when you make a "set" of tiles how many and what variations do you typically make?
The more I do this, the more I realize just having lots and lots of 3x3 tiles is best....as many as you can make. What thickness foam do you tend to use for these tiles? Is there a reason to use thicker or thinner in any scenarios? 1/4, 1/2”?
1/2" is the perfect thickness and what I use. Any thinner and they will warp.
Black Magic Craft that was the quickest reply in UA-cam history. 😂 cheers dude
Good video! I like your beer collection, I've had a few of those myself! btw, are you going to make an ice cave for a yeti?!!! XD
yeah. some look like wychwood brewery beers and ales, if so good taste!!
Thanks for this.
Let me ask you, do you think this could work well for getting a more.... wintery look? Change the green flock for snow flock, and maybe dry brush some blue?
Totally, essentially same technique and you can use the woodland scenics snow for it
Thanks. I'll give it a try.
Great video!
Thanks :)
good work man!
thanks :)
How many tiles do you consider a "set"?
As many as you need.....there is no definitive answer.
So, how would you advise making some Dwarven inspired tiles/terrain?
hmmmm....that's a whole series of videos
looks great!
thanks :)

To do that properly requires a significant amount of time, expensive gear, and a crew....maybe one day.
Saya ingin belajar cara membuat diorama....ini bagus untuk belajar...
WOW thanks 🌸
