Reacting To The Infographics Fighter Pilot Video. Is It Good Info or Complete BS?

- Last month, Infographics put out a video about how difficult it is to become a fighter pilot in the United States. This is my reaction video and comments on the information they presented while debunking some of the myths.

The appearance of U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) visual information does not imply or constitute DoD endorsement.
All infographics videos are so inaccurate, and the biggest problem is they have million views and most of people watching will take those bad information as it is.
That's why I made this video. That video had half a million views - which is quite a few people who may be discouraged by bad information.
All infographics is, is a moneymaking scheme
Infographics have frustrated me for years now. They make a huge amount of baseless assertions and clearly don't research the subject nor have the knowledge to speak off-hand about it. For example comparing the North Korean air force with western nations and suggesting their entire fleet is 4th gen modern fighters rather than the huge reliance on Vietnam and Korean war hardware. There's simply a lot of "common knowledge" fear mongering nonsense similar but worse than the usual newspaper hit pieces.
also their videos often biased
lol infographic content is normally oozing with pro Russian bias, dont really trust there stuff.

@@boblobchippymig5697 The respectable thing would be to not put up a video with false information. It's pretty clear they put no real effort into research before posting it, which is whatever if you're making something for entertainment purposes but not okay when it is educational media. At that point, you're just intentionally misinforming people who came to you for facts. I wouldn't waste any pity on them.

As a fighter pilot, one of the lamest things to hear from civilians while showing off the F-15E at airshows is "I wanted to be a pilot, but..." Infographics like those give them the bad info. You don't need perfect vision, you don't need to look like the Statue of David, just need to be an average person with the will to fight through the bullshit and eventually understand how basic geometry works when you get to the b course. But like you said, the pilot crisis has nothing to do with recruitment, it has everything to do with retaining experienced pilots and that is a whole other discussion.
How about being 1m98cm? (6ft 6inch). At least that was i was told. Something about legs getting stuck? Dont remember 100%, i was 18 at the time.
I wanted to be a pilot but... I developed epilepsy in 8th grade and lost a lot of choices I wanted to do in life 😪 such as joining the military, law enforcement and or some job like the FBI, Secret Service, Etc. Yeah I like jobs that are difficult but that’s how I am 😏💔
@TrendingStuff Allday There really isn't a lot of math or physics involved for the average fighter pilot. Of course you have to understand the basics, but plenty of fighter pilots majored in history in college. If you can grasp that being inside a turn circle closes distance quicker than being outside, you can fly fighters, as long as the stick and rudder aspect is good too.
I studied aeronautical engineering in college. It has not made me a better fighter pilot, just gives potential for follow on assignments.
Sadly for me I (used to) live in Italy and they accept around 40-50 people per year at the military aviation academy (out of 10-20k trying to be accepted), not too easy...

09:40 - It's funny because you get tons of flying hours in the "big fat cargo planes" than as a fighter jet pilot .. and you get to fly to a lot more places.
But why would you want to fly cargo or tankers when you can do so outside the air force and get paid much better wages? Plus living with the realization that you were nowhere near as good to fly a fighter jet?
I'm guessing the main drain is from the support pilots flying the big sitting ducks like cargo or bombers rather than from the fighter wings.
man the "big fat cargo planes" are cool as hell too, as cool as or cooler than the fighter jets themselves
Cargo is a huge responsibility and it is important for logistics they just don't know what they are talking about.
And cargo could also mean troop transport; being responsible for every living soul on board, what could be more badass than a successful cargo plane flight.
@@aegisghost By good you mean cool? Come on! You think everyone are Pete "Maverick" Mitchell wannabe?

I believe it would be better if they did their own research than to watch the video. Not saying it isnt a great video, or that his video is untrue. But training to become a fighter pilot is hard. Not as hard as the infographics chanel eluded to, but in my opinion.. if they cant do the research to figure things out and they just get the answers handed to them, it's kind of setting them up for a flop in my opinion. It's a bit like looking in the back of the textbook to get the answers for the homework. Yes, the answers are correct, but the homework is the practice for the test, and the answers for the test arent in the back of the book. Just my 2c though, different strokes and all.
@@wheelslifts851 because it's not about fighter pilots. It's about inspiration. A 95 yo in India can be told they are too old for X but they need to fight for everything they are trying to get, lest they lay down and die. Pretty applicable to anyone trying to attain anything.

Xylem • as mentioned, there are multiple avenues to commissioning (OTS, AFA, ROTC..). OTS is a program for prior enlisted so that’s not something I’d aim for if you haven’t already been enlisted for a few years and hold a degree.
The best way I’d recommend to commission is through the Air Force Academy, if you are selected. You will begin both the AFA and ROTC fresh and will earn your degree upon completion of the programs.
If you’re still in high school, there’s plenty of time to focus on your studies and apply for AFA. Even if you’ve graduated, there’s always time to begin working at a degree and enroll in ROTC. Either way, visit your local recruiter for more info on the best path to take forward. Yes, it can be a pain warning a degree but if you’re looking to commission, that’s a great incentive lol.

Mover, I watched this same video weeks ago and was shaking my head the whole time too. Thanks for making this video! Currently a stud at UPT. See ya!
"To pilot a multi-million dollar jet" I mean I know that's just phrasing to make it sound that impressive but at this point tons of aircraft are "multi-million dollar" a million dollars isn't as much as it used to be and almost all commercial jets costs many millions and there are few aircraft in any air force in any military that doesn't cost at least a million. Like tankers are usually converted commercial jets and they also cost millions, transport aircraft are multi-million dollars. Fighters are expensive sure but they they aren't the only expensive aircraft. It's not a big deal but it's just part of the whole misinformed attitude about aviation in this video where they try more to make it sound cool rather than deliver accurate information.
I think pretty much every plane the military has costs a few million dollars. I mean, even the Texan is around 4 I think...
Who knew seven words can turn into an essay lol
Those cargo planes they crapped on are also "multi-million" dollar aircraft. I mean, commercial pilots who fly Airbus and Boeing are flying far more expensive aircraft, soooooo. The A380 is almost half a billion.
I suspect they got the 20/20 vision thing from watching a few too many movies.

Why do they keep emphasizing how expensive the jets are? Yes, it's probably unfathomably expensive to the normal person, but after the 10th time, I simply don't care anymore.
Actually, a couple of years back there was a controversy about the military building really expensive planes, never using them and then eventually having to sell them for scraps.

Ryan Connors how could I contact you?
Marty Martin message me on Instagram @rconnors45 if you’ve got any questions. Happy to help
Ryan Connors yeah thank you so much! I most likely will be asking you questions thank you!
In 1992, an Airforce recruiter told me I couldn't be a pilot without 20/20. I took his word, 25yrs later I started training to be commercial pilot. But that one encounter (I should have asked others) stopped me.
I love what you said about, "the worst part of the video, flying big fat cargo plans" oh, wow!!! Your are so correct!!!! That is the worst of the video & totally false because, like you said every mission in the military is a support mission (of each other). If there is no supporting each other, there is no success!!!! Being "Solo" doesn't complete the mission!! That's why there are terms like, "Seal TEAMS"....because people have to collaborate in order to accomplish a unified goal!!!! Everyone is a crucial part even if they are not the "tip of the spear"!!!
Not to mention, the C-130 has a coffee pot and a bathroom. Can't do that in your pointy nose jet.

Mover launching Fox 3 to Infographics, and splashing them hard. Nice video!
Do you know what the term Fox3 even means
23:40 I busted out laughing so hard. "Get revenge on your instructor for the hell they put you through!" Just the picture it paints is so funny. especially the way CW reacts. Like some maniacs are watching this thinking they get to shoot down their evil instructors in the end or something. Oh it's so damn funny to me right now.
Nice video Mover. You show the difference of what many youngsters "Think they know" and "Think they know but ain't so." Herd mentality taught in school is the biggest drawback for any person who wants to get ahead - in any walk of life. Belief in self and persistence is key, and you show that. "Make 'em tell you No." Love it.
You should review their other military videos.
Also, looking forward to the retention video
I truly hope he does. Their military videos are always full of false information and it bothers the hell outta me.
yup damn right, just like that video where they say the US can beat the whole world. the whole fucking world hahaha
*serious face*
*chuckles*

I kept pointing out in the original video the fact that they kept putting Russian aircraft as they talked about the US military.
Even the ships, behind the carrier they depicted a Russian battle-cruiser. Idk why they only have graphics for Russian equipment when their show usually deals with US stuff.
Well half of the Russian aircraft (the Sukhoi series) do look really attractive, with their sleek wings, wide profile, large size and general bird-of-prey aesthetics. They also have a dogfighter's characteristics with excellent thrust, light weight, a massive payload and impressive agility, which appeal to our romantic notions of air combat.
The US aircraft look like they're a flying gun with a plane stapled onto it (A-10) or a fat turkey with stubby wings (F-35). The general wingspan is also way too narrow and single engines give the impression of less speed than dual engines. I'd say the F-22 or F-14 are/were the only really attractive-looking aircraft in the entire arsenal.
@@aegisghost The F-18 looks gorgeous though...
Have you seen there top 10 WW2 battleship list
When the Infographic video said “and you’re gonna be treated like dirt” I got so pissed off. Not just what he said, but how he said it. That’s not how it works. It’s like the makers of the video don’t remotely understand what the term “mutual respect” means.
Same goes for when the guy said “big fat cargo planes”. Speaking of mutual respect, the Infographic Show knows nothing about being respectful... or remotely intelligence for that matter.
things keeping me from being a fighter pilot:
my country has a small airforce.
i am not fit.
i am not in any way american.
my back is a b e n d y b o y e.
Same here, all of our planes are old MiG-29 is as new as it gets and those only account for a handful of our inventory and the pilots are selected becuase they have the right last name just incase a military coup happens they want the airforce to be loyal to the government....
I'm from New Zealand and our Airforce is almost nonexistent

Even though we have a commendable air force in our country, it is still nowhere near to USAF and our population is 4 times more than USA, so competition is really high.☹️
That infographics video nearly killed my dream, thank god I saw this one right after
Let the recruitment office be the only one to kill that dream, ignore anyone else trying to put you off it.
Don't let infographics determine what you can or can't do they don't often get their facts infact they are the example of dumbing it down too much where they get over 70% of what they say are incorrect if not flat out wrong.
There is only one basic lesson that anyone can be learned in this video "Don't trust Infographics show"
I'm sensing a pattern with the Infographic show now. They're making way too many mistakes in their videos. The one that really caught my attention is the one with the "Top Battleships" video. They got all of those wrong. Even armchair historians could get it right.
I actully already watched that vid like week ago😂
Same. I pointed out some of the wrong facts in the comments
XD
24:38 why are they dressed like they’re ready to go fight it out in the bush in Rhodesia in 1967
"big fat cargo plane"
Yeah? Well it's the big fat cargo plane that fly's a lot of the equipment infantry will be using in the field, a plane with big bombs and guns alone can't win the battle alone
They also fuel fighter jets in air
I tell people I aspire to be a fighter pilot and they all say I can't. Either that I'm too tall (6'1") or m eyes aren't good enough (20/30). I say that all of those are myths and they refuse to believe anything I say. It annoys me when I am asked what I want to do with my life, I say I want to be a Pilot, and denial is all I get.
Do it anyway, lmao in their faces ha
Same but instead of becoming a fighter pilot, I wanna be a commercial pilot and people always told me. > That kind of person really annoys me And I have to explain them that the medical test doesn’t require a perfect sight and you’re completely allowed to wear glasses. It’s all because of these stupid journalists that understand nothing and write complete BS. Anyway don’t let these stupid people discourage you and follow your dream. I wish you good luck for the future.
I’m 6’2” and currently in pilot training so your probably fine... and your vision is fine to. Sitting height is what matters along with other stuff. Go after your dreams man.
I'm nearly blind, -5.75 in both eyes but I'm currently training for my ATPL. The days of perfect vision and ideal height is gone. Keep up the passion and knowledge, then try your best to get your dream position.
same dude
I’m glad I caught this video when I did, Unsubbed from infographics show
That Infopgraphics video reminds me of the Marine recruiting commercials in the 90s. I was super bummed when I reported to Parris Island and was told I would not be issued a noble steed and allowed to joust a fire demon on a giant chessboard.
Mover..... It single handedly was one of these same Alpha Alpha Sierra HOLES that made me a person that I never wanted to be. I heard it all "Your eyes arent good enough," "you have to have straight A's," BLAH BLAH AND MORE BLAH. I'm on the verge of cryin. By what you said I WOULD have been a fighter pilot and a damn good one. I wouldn't have become discouraged, given up and thrown my life away. Out of anger that I would never fly. You are doing a tremendously good-hearted service telling kids (like I was once) THE TRUTH, Informed, and no Bravo Sierra. Your someone that has the experiance and isn't telling kids "You will never be a fighter pilot, it's too hard and only the best students get to fly." They said "Be a lawer or a doctor, and quit entertaining a fantasy." Right now I'm on the verge of tears. Mover thank you for this video, and all your video's, you may make a few pilots instead of criminals, druggies, and who knows what else when a young person throws in the towel because some of us only want one thing in life.... To fly most of the time ANYTHING that flys, fixed wing or rotor wing. Take that away and people like me just give up on life. It's like cutting off the wings on an eagle shit, any bird (flying ones) and ask him if he wants to be a lawer or doctor! Yes I have a few hours in a Cessna but it's not the same and never will be. 😢
'Make them tell you no" I like it. I thought I was coming to this video for entertainment but I left with inspiration.
Coming from a person who’s dreaming of becoming an A10 pilot, thank you for making this video. You don’t know how many people tell me I won’t succeed. So for real. Thank you🙏🏽 much love from Chicago
Imagine still flying fighter jets
This post was made by the Raider Interstellar Battlecruiser Coalition
Dude wtf, the only reason i didn't join the airforce to become a pilot was because my highschool teacher said i wear glasses and they'd never accept me.
Thank God I found you
Can't believe i doubted myself
I got pissed off within the first three minutes, they’re claiming the US is the only nation with advanced fighter aircraft. Absolute bs.

I love that they took this video down, and I'm assuming that they did that once you published your reaction video and they realized just how uninformed they were lol!
Your channel really is incredible. I so wish you would have been around a decade ago. I am 32 now, unfortunately. It would appear I got a significant amount of mis-information. I know one thing is for sure, if I run across anyone looking to fly, I will point them to you.
Same. However a lot of folk don't know about things like soaring associations where you can fly sail planes. I learned about it in my early 20s and I've flown sail planes a couple of times. I always direct people to that. It's a great way to get your feet wet to see if you'd even like sitting in little cramped up cockpits a few thousand feet above the ground (typically just under cloud level, so about 3k feet), and since they have no motors it's the most simple form of flight there is
heck, maybe there's a soaring club a few counties away YOU can check out. A lot of those places don't get the love they deserve simply because people don't know they exist
Used to go out and help SERE show our F15 pilots how to avoid detection from enemy K9 teams. Fun stuff.
Fighter pilot: Hey, do you need help with that script?
Infographics: Nah, I’ll just wing it instead
Thank you I'm 15 and inspiring to be a military pilot you cleared up a lot of things for me and now I will actually consider this career choice and try to make it a reality and although you probably will never see this comment I am really appreciative about what you've done

I always knew infographics was a crappy channel, but I'm glad someone actually sliced one of their videos apart with real facts
I love that at 22:27 they are landing backwards on the carrier.
17:42 actually those are SU-27s, the IRST sensor is not in the middle of the nose, is on the side for the MIG-29.
This is what happens when you get an anti-service stoner involved in informing the people on military information
5:59 I tho we are talking about US Air Force... But why is that red plane a Russian SU-27 or Chinese J-11??!
"dont let a youtube video with russian planes ruin your dream" xD sorry. Your right but that was funny
“And for your final test, you must thread the needle of a Singer sowing machine blindfolded to simulate a night raid. And then stitch a hat.”
My dream since I was a kid was to be a pilot. I was always reading and talking about airplanes. When I got older though, everybody told me there’s a height limit. They said you can’t be over 5’9 if you wanted to fly. Me being a tall and gullible kid, my dreams were crushed. My junior year we took the ASVAB, and I scored a 96. I started thinking about flying again, and I did some research. Turns out the limit is 6’5. If I knew I could’ve made it when I started high school, i could’ve graduated with at least 2 years of college completed and been able to get my bachelors that much quicker. Don’t believe everything you hear guys.
True, don't take other people's opinions seriously guys. Search for evidence before you actually believe them. That way you can ignore hurtful and denial comments from them because you know you can do it and they are liars.
Like not write down everything that infographics say. Because most of them is FALSE.
So I gotta take the 8Gs challenge to have a chance at flying the F-16? Or does that no longer exist. Also I met a naval F/A-18 pilot a few months ago at my schools career day and I asked him if I could be a fighter pilot if I wore glasses and he told me the same thing you did.
To fly the F-16, you'll have to go through the F-16 centrifuge profile which does involve pulling 9Gs.
@@CWLemoine thanks
Khanskaya Glukovski it's not so much "if" you wear glasses, more "why" - you're better off asking an optician rather than a pilot as it's a purely medical question involving much more than just visual acuity.
The Infographics: HOw to be a fighter pilot..
Lemoine: *NO*
