Played there as a teen just after it was created from an old scrap yard that was cleared. the old iron bridge was a route to school. They built a tesco store on the old Cefn druids pitch,
That is not only a great looking ground , but so clean too, a lot of pride with the man taking you around , you can see he loved showing you the ground.. love the brick dug outs too ...
What a lovely setting for a stadium! Up until the 1930s Norwich City's ground was an old quarry known as the Nest. The club had to move to Carrow Road because the Nest was deemed unsafe. I really enjoy these videos because they show there's far more to football than the PL, Champions League etc.
Played here with the Irish U18s v Wales 4 years back. The hospitality from the club was second to none. Serious playing service and the surrounds create a banging atmosphere
I was on the Llangollen canal in September! ! Turned around in Trevor, the village just west of Cefn-mawr. I could have walked there! I live in California so doubt I’ll get back. But thanks for showing me something else outstanding about that wonderful area of Wales. Long live lower league football!
Come on Wales, you Welsh need to start shouting out loud about how great Wales is.I'm English(Manchester) but admire how you punch well above your weight.lets just mention Gareth Bale for starters...love from England.
Check out Merthyr Town FC, welsh club playing in the 7th tier of English football, rivalry with Hereford and European history with a win against Atalanta in the European cup in the 80s
I have seen it many times. I am an Ipswich fan living near Chester but l have a soft spot for the Druids notwithstanding last years dreadful season. When l go l get the feeling l am the only person who doesn’t know everyone else. But it’s really friendly and a pleasure to visit
I will always remember when they were sponsored by NEWI ( a local college I think ) - Saturday evenings the booming voice of James Alexander Gordon on the radio saying " NEWI Cefn Druids 2 Airbus nilllll " - great memories
We played a Rugby League game there 5 or 6 years ago against North Wales Crusaders. It's a cracking little ground - and that rock-face is a great feature.
Been this stadium with my lad loads when he’s playing football but this stadium 🏟 is amazing when you shout and your voice reflects off the rock face 💙
loved that you’re starting to cover Welsh teams. I went to an Aberystwyth Town game while on holiday there and it was lovely and welcoming there I’ve followed them ever since
I had a workshop here a few years ago it was one of the nicest places I've ever worked. Proper local people doing what they love best. I hope they can get back into the Welsh premium again
Thanks Sam your videos get better and better. What a nice well run little club. It’s nice to see some Welsh grounds as we don’t tend to hear about the teams in the Welsh leagues.
@@JacobJones1086 you obviously know more than me so I can’t really comment properly, but the Chairman talked it up and it looked a tidy little ground. These videos are so good seeing less popular clubs with long histories.
My lad played a friendly there about 4/5 years back. Thought it was a remarkable place then. Thanks for the reminder. It didn't have a 4g pitch back then..
Great video, and a great ground. Might try and get over from Dublin for a game. If I climb up Howth Head on a clear day, I can see Wales, so no excuses for not going. If the Welsh FA followed the Irish model and switched to a Feb/ Oct season, crowds would increase considerably, and European results would see Welsh clubs knocking on the door of the European group stages because most of their European opponents would still be in pre-season. A quarter of a million, give or take, for getting through every qualifying round, and Shamrock Rovers over here will be getting the best part of five mill for qualifying for the Europa Conference. Good luck to Wales in the World Cup, Ireland has officially adopted you :)
Been to watch AFC Liverpool in a pre season friendly game here, I remember seeing graffiti on the rock face and thinking how have they got there to do it!!. Enjoyed my trip there and they are a very welcoming club, well worth a visit.
You're a natural on camera pal, such a nice, friendly & enthusiastic persona - a major TV company should sign you up #SkySports maybe?? Great informative channel (subbed) Cheers
Great video as always. You should check out Cardiff City Stadium and the old ninian gates with the Jock Stein memorial and the penalty spot in the housing estate opposite. Or the millenium stadium with the old Cardiff Arms Park still part of the stadium
What a great little club, seems to be really well run by a passionate man and i'm sure his staff share that passion, next time i'm able i'll be coming up to watch a game
Wow!!!This is an extremely so fantastic stadium to visit and they are one of my favourite respective footballing clubs daily and ever in this world and other planets, good friends!!!:-D
Brilliant video as always Sam! Should definitely try get over and get to the Glentoran vs Larne top of the table clash on Friday night if you can, Get to see the mighty Inver Reds maintain their undefeated start to the league 😉🔴⚪️
Great little video, for which many thanks. The channel Sgorio is pronounced with short 'o's, like the o on of, not the o in only. The accent, it being a Welsh word, is on the first o. The place where you are, Cefn, is pronounced as if the f was a v, and literally means The Back or the rear side, presumably referring to the village's inferior geographic position or historic status in comparison with a more important place nearby. Football in Welsh is pêl droed (ball for the foot) btw.
Funny timings as my best friend just got a job as head off at Cefn Druids new head off coaching. I'll probably get to see the Stadium in person soon enough
Great vid! Lovely little ground with a great heritage. They are also great at developing talented local kids! For info, in Welsh the letter V doesn't exist. The letter F is pronounced as a V and the FF is pronounced as an F.
I am a true Motherwell supporter and I am truly sorry about the reception that you got at Motherwell , I love your videos and the fans at fir park who gave you shit are not true Motherwell fans , thanks for all your great vlogs , good luck and keep your vlogs coming 👍🙏🏼.
It's not suspicious. The Christians destroyed burned most pagan writings, Artifacts & Druid Sunworship temples. They even burned pagan Britons and Celts who refused judaism in form of their 'christ'. That's what the Judaic song Jerusalem tells you about. The 'Dragon' symbolises the pre-christian Britons and Celts. The original Briton flag was a dragon similar to the Welsh flag. 'George' symbolises Judaism through Christianity. The clue is in the word 'Jerusalem' - it's not British. You'll be surprised how many dumb ppl think think it's an English song haha 🤪 Great vid btw!
Also to add, only cymru premier (welsh top flight) highlights are shown, sometimes but very rarely that tier 2 and women's (including Cardiff, Swansea and wrexham) sides highlights are shown but even then its only 1 match
Bangor City be worth visiting. Biggest non league club in North Wales. Once played Atletico Madrid in European competition after winning the Welsh Cup. They've had financial problems, but they are the biggest of all Welsh non league clubs support wise. Big derby rivals with Caernarfon Town.
Cefn is Welsh for back, so the club's name literally translates to "Druids back". No idea what relevance that may or may not have to how the club got that name. A simpler one along the same lines is a team based in a town near Blackwood in South Wales, called Cefn Fforest, which translates to "Back (of) Forest" because the village is situated (you'll never guess this)..... Behind a forest 😂.
always weird being a local to these areas and seeing places you take your dog for a walk regularly. start of the video is about 2 minutes down the union canal from pentre heading towards fron. would've parked next to the guy who lives in a ford transit by the water edge
In lare March it was announced that wrexham women would be playing games there as they needed to have additional features to play in new division 2023 2024
Why don't you come to Saltaire, West Yorkshire. We have a stadium here that is ranked among the annuals of footballing history. Made lagendary by Michael Palin and Terry Jones in their 1979 sports documentary Golden Gordon. The ground is still there, the stand is still there. A citadel to football.
Being pedantic, the Camp Nou pitch is 105m x 68m the same size as Wembley, Spurs, Arsenal, Man Utd, Man City.. etc. 105x64 is the recommended pitch size for Cat 3/4 stadiums. Most clubs in the premier league have the same size pitch, there are exemptions for clubs that don’t have enough space.
