  • This video explains how to replace the heater control valve on BMW 3 series built between the years of 1991 and 1999 if equipped with the valve that has the 3 heater hoses located on the same side, two upper outlets and one lower inlet.
This particular heater valve deteriorates over time, during the video we provide a closer look at the parts that make this valve fail and causes the heater to blow cold air due to restricted passages.
The valve is hard to access because is located between the brake booster and the intake manifold, this tight location makes it necessary to work from both sides of the engine, directly under the hood and underneath the car.
We tried to use as much detail as possible to make the heater valve replacement in your BMW E36 a breeze, which should save you at least $200.00 in labor if not more depending on where you normally take your BMW to have it serviced.

where does the rubber debris come from? would any O-rings or hoses need to be replaced because rubber is breaking off? Also, other than disassembling the unit ( if the blockage isn't pickable from the holes ) would running a hose through it maybe clear it?

also above my crank idle valve the where the hose connects to the top of the manifold is ripped also, and I would like to know where I can get these parts, they are the last thing I need.

Hi I have a 95 E36 328i and mine is not blowing hot air, my temp gauge seems to go over halfway towards red but never goes the whole way of it overheating then just drops back to middle normal temperature. Never has it overheated and just wanting to know if replacing mine would fix this issue? Thanks in advanced :)

Hello my bmw 36 325is 2 weeks ago started leaking alot of antifreeze and smoke was coming up from the engine bay I bout the car next door to a mechanic and he told me it was the heater Valve supposenly they check the problem with a scanner gun. They took the piece out now I'm waiting for another one . The heater valve really can cause a major issue with antifreeze pouring out like a bucket of water. Please respond back

Can this cause the car to over heat?

maybe not in every case. All i know is that it makes the heater hose on the right when you face the firewall swell really bad and then, in my case, severely overheats.
