Chris, I live in South Carolina, I have family that lives in a certain area that have experienced 3 tornados in the past 3yrs. They’re gaining strength, 0 warning system. The NWS showed up after the damage to determine the damage path after the F2 and they were trying to determine new alleys for tornados. Haven’t seen them since the F3s in SC. How can I message you directly? We just had EF3s in the alleys they talked about in 2019
Hey Pat! I’m sorry to hear about how your family has been impacted by tornadoes. Please know that no matter how enthusiastic some of us get over the weather, NONE of us want to see people get hurt, or have their property damaged. That said, yes, there does seem to be an eastward shift of the traditional “tornado alley” over the last decade+. I’m not a climate scientist, so I can’t speak to the reasons for that with any real authority, unfortunately. As for the NWS visits, yes-they will visit damage areas after a storm to (a) confirm whether or not the damage was caused by a tornado, and if so, (b) to rate its strength (tornado strength using the EF scale is determined after the fact, strictly based on the damage caused). Unless another tornado came through (God forbid), you wouldn’t see them again after the damage survey. Please stay safe out there.
