After an abysmal 2020 and a quieter-than-usual start to the 2021 season in the midwest, I decide to shake off the rust by chasing a local storm that shows some hints of growing into an organized supercell.

After an abnormally quiet spring storm season, a promising setup takes shape on my home turf, but turns out to be a reminder of why it's a bad idea to chase fast-moving storms at night.

Ever wonder what it's like to chase storms? Follow me for 3 days of chasing, including the May 20, 2019 High Risk Event as part of the first video uploaded to my new UA-cam channel. This video consists of road footage, analysis, and commentary.
Depends where you live I guess. We get severe thunderstorm warnings with none of the above lol heavy rain maybe but no hail or destructive winds other than rare occasions and never a tornado.
To remember red shift, picture sound waves from a train that’s moving away from you. The waves get stretched out. Longer wavelength. On the visual spectrum, RED has the longest wavelength 〰️, while purple look like this: 𓆙 Light waves moving towards you will be compressed, not stretched out. The wavelength drops (more coiled) and they will be green (close to blue and purple, where short wavelengths live)
4:06 Murfreesboro born and raised, not that anyone cares just kinda shocked me to see it on here.
Wow! Great video man, are you coming back sometime because this video was fun and informative and would love to see more 😀😀
Workin’ on it. Severe season is pretty much over, but the channel reached 10K subscribers! So I’m working on a little something for that. Thanks for watching, and thanks for the comment!
This is the first time I’ve ever been to a TE and the first time to be under a tornado warning
If yall wanna see a SUPER PREVALENT hook echo, the 2013 Moore EF5 is _hauntingly_ obvious, as well as the debris ball from that monster
One Doppler is right by my house
I live in Southwest Michigan not far from where the first rotation was occuring. I remember me and my family watching the news and keeping an eye on the storm. Thankfully it missed where I lived.
Here in Australia, we get severe thunderstorm warnings with heavy rain fall . Even today, we had one, and it had a mesocyclone
Any chance you could cover handheld weather monitoring devices, like a kestrel. I'm trying to find someone to show how to determine if the weather will be getting worse or better using one.
I had probably cobbled together 25% to 50% of this information with no actual validation of course. This closed so many gaps in my understanding of what I'm looking at, and not even though I know it is oversimplified and surface level / high level knowledge, I feel much more informed! Thank you so much for breaking this down in a way that is simple enough to understand by a lay person, but in depth enough to really help with the understanding!
This is the vid that got me stared. I members when I was 11 thinking can you see a tornado on radar. Then I watched this, asked my Mon if I can get radar scope and she said yes. And now I have tracked many radar tornados and help us see where tornados are where we live
Thank you now I can see were the tornado is in a game

Im 13 and im so fascinated by this, this is so good. Keep up the work! I love storm chasing. Im trying to get radar scope it looks so good
Not even joking. I watched this full video and immediately opened my radar scope pro app and found a water spout in the Gulf of Mexico not even 2 minutes after finishing this video using the information you taught me.
The way you explain how to read radar is so easy and simple to understand! I want to be a storm chaser later on in life, and this is honestly getting me there. But, I am NOT going out there till I know storm chaser safety, but at least I know how to read the basic of radar. Thank you for this video, it has helped me so much, and the next time a severe thunderstorm is hurling towards me, I'm going to immediately check reflectivity, velocity, and CC. If I see a hook echo, along with red moving away from green in a coupling, and I see a debris ball, I'll know there's a strong tornado lofting debris! If not, then I'm probably fine. (:
Dude, this was a masterclass explanation, got me from noob to pro in 30 minutes. Thank you, subscribed, and keep posting such insanely good content. Worthy of a TED presentation man, amazing work!
20:38 why does it look like japan
This is truly fascinating to watch! My hometown, Mendon, had a tornado touch down nearby. I remember I was bolting back and forth from our front and back door, keeping an eye on the clouds. After seeing the videos of the tornado touching down, I had chills in my spine. If you haven't seen those videos I highly recommend it, I believe we had a bit of "Dead Man Walking" before it merged into one. It may not have been that, but there were multiple vortices as it started. Thank you for your videos, these are amazing to watch!
Me 13- Wants to be a meteorologist- Lives in a non-tornado dependent state (I live in a more hurricane type state)-
Going to use this knowledge in Outbrk lol..this is actually a huge help
What is the name of the app that you use for chasing storms
Chris, do you know any free Radar Apps that are for PC because most Weather Apps don't have Velocity Radar, and it is very important.
I finally learned how to prepare for weather before it hits me due to this video. Thanks, Watch Chris Chase!
Thanks for the video, I want to be a storm chaser when I grow up, so I'm gathering all the knowledge I can before I do, this was very helpful recognizing clear indications on radars, the wind bow was very useful for me currently, a lot of them will come in every now and then, and they can break a lot of things.
love the content, easily digestible education about something im super interested!
What a great video.
Great video man. I think you should make another video explaining what else we need to know before storm chasing. It’s something I’m interested in and would like to learn more.
I see Waterspouts on Lake Erie alot
the lonely radar method is too sad for me to use unfortunately. XD
I am curious as to which angle do you normally look at signatures is it best to use 0.5* ? also do you also use storm-relative velocity in conjunction with CC and reflectivity and at what degree angle?
Definitely not trying to be glen powell
I live in portage and work across the street from the fedex building that was destroyed so I experienced this first hand, but its pretty cool to actually understand the terminology and data behind it all
Yikes! Glad you’re ok!
Do you have a checklist you go over before you go storm chasing that might benefit new people looking to make a career out of it?
I do! Maybe I’ll make a Q&A video and put it in there. Thanks for the idea!
Hey I noticed your velocity color palette is very bright green how did you get that?
What do you use for your radar stuff? Is itvlike- an app? Or a website? 🤔🤔
It’s an application on laptops but it’s also on IOS iPhone it’s radar scope pro it’s $10 USD
This was incredibly helpful and very well done. Thank you!😊
Dude you did a storm chase around Augusta? I live an hour south of Augusta
Dude you did a storm chase around Augusta? I live an hour south of Augusta
is it called a non rotating updraft cause the greens and reds aren’t touching?
This is definitely the best guide to radar I have seen. I would definitely recommend this to someone looking for a radar guide video that isn't super confusing. You explained things verry well and easy to understand. Good job and I am subscribed now because of this video.
Amazing video. Thank you for making this
Sadly Joplin is the reason i wanted to learn
Velocity 🤤🤤
Thanks for this video I love tornados and I am a 12 year old kid that love the movie twisters and that what makes me love tornados and with this video you helped me to understand more storms and now I know what are the hooks and stuff thanks for you man👍🏻
the derecho that went through the parade reminds me of the new twisters
Chased this storm, absolutely wild!
Man I remember seeing the Tor-E come in and I was shook.
event after taking aviation weather classes, as a pilot this is such valuable information for me to understand on an even better level now and how it will help me flight plan in the future! thank you so much for this video!!
