DeKnight, based on the Image comic book series by Mark Millar and Frank Quitely, that premiered on Netflix on May 7, 2021. The series stars Josh Duhamel, Ben Daniels, Leslie Bibb, Elena Kampouris, Andrew Horton, Mike Wade and Matt Lanter.

You wanna bet part of the reason this is so different is cause Millar (Who I believe was very hands on with this series) wanted to flesh out things he never had the chance to (or rather he wanted to change)...either that or it's to set up things that'll be used in the upcoming comic series.

It has been years since I went to a comic shop, until Tuesday, it was heaven. Collecting Comics again, I am gonna go again Monday, and next Tuesday, and best of all. I got payed today, payed good.

I really enjoyed it but totally agree with your criticisms. I never read the comics but watching this made me want to. I think you’re being a little hard on the show but you also have the advantage (or disadvantage) of knowing the source material. I really like that it reminds me of the golden age but the lack of superheroic‘s was a huge negative and I absolutely hated Chloe the entire time she was on screen. Given the changes that you said were made I find it very difficult for them to course correct some of these characters into what happens in the comic book.
Matt lautner is in star wars the clone wars he voiced anakin Skywalker aka young Darth Vader, seven seasons and a time travel sci fi show and other things
oh FYI, Steve S. DeKnight left midway through production due to creative differenes long ago (It was announced in 2019) so...yeah that could be part of the issue

Thank you for articulating this review so well. I am so impressed with The Boys and Invincible on amazon. That's why I was excited when I saw the trailer for Jupiter's Legacy. I didn't read any of these comics (except for the first compilation of The Boys). I just want to enjoy a good show. I really wanted to like this show. I couldn't continue watching Jupiter's Legacy. I can't explain it as well as you can but for me the reason is simple - there was absolutely NO character in this show that was in the least bit INTERESTING! The Boys has you feeling deeply disturbed by Homelander's sociopathy coupled with Superman-like powers. You really feel the tension in that show. It's the same with Omniman in Invincible. Furthermore, the show Invincible has you caring about Mark and his development as a character. Not to mention how interesting side characters are such as Robot and Titan. I just didn't feel compelled to care about ANYONE in Jupiter's Legacy. I'm not so concerned about the comics, the show needs to stand on it's own. All I want is a well-written show and interesting characters. I just don't think this show has either, sorry.

Also, to be perfectly fair, basing the first season off of the first 3 issues...kind of makes sense. Because remember there is a huge time skip between 3 and 4, and since they were already dealing with flashbacks as it is, I don't think they wanted to juggle a FURTHER time skip at the same time. But yeah craming 3 issues into that long...overall that means a lot more dragging...but I CAN see why they felt that was the natural cut off point
Oh and interesting fact...apparently Jupiter's Legacy (And another Millarverse series Supercrooks) are set on an alternate continuity to Wanted, basically what if the villains never got rid of the heroes.

I do too. But I watch so much TV that shows have become predictable and obvious more often than not.
Thanks tris. Very few productions can do age make up well or making the same actor look good. Agreed the pregnancy and treat thing are big mistakes story and character wise , I really don't understand the thinking with adaptations, when I listen to directors and writers making changes it's just arrogance, I can understand leaving things out for time but charging key parts or main characters is unacceptable , a good adaptation should just present the original story in a different medium nobody really wants the opinion of the people making it . It's like buying McDonald's and not selling a big mac.
Tristan I finished your video and what you described it sound like they change some of the themes and mystery of the story structure even some characters personalities were altered. Which to me all screens this show is not unique at all.
As it’s own stand alone thing I liked it I can’t judge it based on the comics I didn’t read them but a lot of those who did say it was an issue and after your explanation I can kind of see why
Also I can't give an opinion on the show I haven't seen it yet. but I'll watch your review of it for some insight of the comic.
Disclaimer. Like with Invincible, I've never read the comics. That being said I liked the first couple of episodes, but eventually I just kept scratching my head in confusion as to why the characters were acting like total rubes. Walter, was the only exception to this, as was evident from the flashbacks that he was clearly the more intelligent and wiser of the 2 brothers. Sheldon just came off as overly naive in the flashbacks and stubbornly nonsensical in the present, especially with his kids. Not sure if that's how he was in the comics but as the show went on he quickly became the most frustrating character for me to watch, followed closely by Chloe.
Chloe, unfortunately hit pretty close to home for me on a personal level. Chloe, and her relationship with her father was almost beat for beat what it was like with my older sister and my father, minus the powers. I know this is more of a personal hang up of mine so I won't blame the show or the writing for it, but it got really uncomfortable for me to watch as it dredged up some very unpleasant childhood memories.
The special effects varied, if I were to be charitable, the makeup on the present day Union heroes was unconvincing. The action scenes were pretty cool though.
Before Invincible, I wasn't really into watching superhero shows and I had high hopes for this one too. But after watching it and this video I can't help but feel like I got cheated out of an amazing story. Now I'm interested in reading the comics to see what I'm missing. And hopefully Chloe won't make me relive the worst parts of my childhood.
And yea not exactly an A list cast but josh did AMAZING that guy really sold crazy very few actors I’ve seen pull off genuine lunacy like that he fell a little flat during the rest I feel wasn’t the greatest hero but fuck did he play lunacy INCREDIBLY well
It wasn’t great at all I wish they would have stuck with the past for the 8 episodes. And I was upset the last episode was 30 minutes and 7 was 50 made no sense.

Even though it does have its problems when you adopt a comic to the small screen there will be changes. I personally thought the original six origin storyline was just way too long, could have done it in 4 episodes. Which brings me to the length of the season, 8 episodes is not enough to tell this complex of a story from the comics. I did like the discussions of the morality of being a superhero, we are a nation of laws and once that goes out the window it's anarchy (or tyranny). The coolest character Raikou being taken out was a mistake, but maybe she tricked Brainwave somehow and will come back in season 2. I thought Matt Lanter's performance as George and Elena Kampouris as Chloe stood out for me. I liked the series but I didn't love it, maybe I was spoiled after watching Invincible.
Tristan I found the comics and they were amazing thanks for saving me from watching that botched TV adaptation of the comic book I hate it when Hollywood botches famous characters and storylines or give us weird creative Liberties for the sake of doing it like Ghost in the Shell, Watchmen movie.

I just watch it because I want a season 2 to continue the origin story, it was great!
I was completely unaware of the comic book so I watched it through all the way. It does drag and some of those fight scenes looked well... cheesy. I mean like sometimes when they’re levitate you could literally tell they were on a harness. It also felt like it took until the final episode till things really came FULL CIRCLE
Aww man that sucks. I know you were so looking forward to it AND given the recent track records of adaptations lately…guess it was inevitable there would be a stumble/dud

Not having read the books I enjoyed it.
I’ve never read this comic but I was hyped for this show. Upon watching the first episode, I was disappointed. The fighting is subpar. The CGI and special effects, the acting, the wigs, and the blandness is just… in a world where we have The Boys, Invincible, and etc., this is just disappointing.
Yeah this series was just baaaaaad. From the flat angles, to the boring characters to the stupid flashback sequences (seriosuly F those flashbacks!). Honestly both the boys and invincible do what this show tries to do sooo much better.
All the action was in the first episode I was hoping for more if that.
This show is literally like the opposite of Doom Patrol like every aspect in which this show fails Doom Patrol succeeds. The Doom Patrol series honors the comic in every way possible. I'm sorry if I'm starting to seem annoying trying to convince you to watch Doom Patrol Tristan but honestly you have no clue what you're missing out on that show is fantastic. And until you watch and review this show I will not stop advocating for it in the comment section. I just really can't stress how good this show is.
Doom Patrol is a Masterpiece and great representation for people with mental and physical disabilities.

Why do we need to know someone's sexual preferences in shows. We shows do it nowadays it comes out forced. When the scene of the woman getting pleasured by another woman we know what they are without it being at look at me moment.
Another Show that could have been better than what it was, they should of just stuck with the comics and reflect that into live action.

Tristen... I watched this other show on Netflix called "shadow and bone", it was actually really good. Check it out and let me know what you think. It has an old time feel based on 19th century England mixed with Russian culture. I love shows like this. My only complaint is they didn't explore the bad guys from the first episode. I'm sure they will in another season though. Have a good day.
I never read the comics so I couldn't compare all I know this show bored me to death. It didn't seem like it was worth it! I mean it felt like a chore really

It's true that mystery can be better than explanation (G. Lucas' obsession with explaining The Force comes to mind...).

@@jaegeru3535 that was one of my big criticisms as well without even seeing the show. it was the same reason I didn't want to watch the boys when the first season came out.
I haven't read comics, but for me the show had one huge problem, I was more interested in flashbacks than the main stuff, but it wasn't the worst show ever.
I've watched it, it was average and a bit cheap at times.
The flashback are actually the most interesting part in the story which is not a good sign 😅 especially in a superheros show since they don't have their powers in those flashbacks lol
The present is quiet uneventful and boring and honestly it felt more like a drama than a hero show...
The worst part being Chloe.... terrible character and storyline and not even saved by her looks, just awful. One thing makes me laugh though, she keeps on fucking all show but she is always dressed 🤣 (Netflix and their puritanism for a 16+ show 🤣 )

I have so many things to say about this ridiculously terrible show.
I’ve always been an avid fan of fight choreography and the angles and movements and translations of their super abilities were just impressively off. The angles never highlighted what it needed to and confusingly have you looking at half of someone’s arm and the opponent somehow spins opposite to the impact of that punch? And slowed down movements that didn’t need to be paid attention to? Had aerial views of two characters peering off to the right that you can barely even see?
And the camera bobbing was just annoying if you want to show the audience the impact of the hits zoom in and center the hits then shake the camera then pan out and showcase the opponent being flown back etc.
I could never gauge how weak or strong anyone is. Sometimes a fight blasted someone powerful out of view and sometimes the same hit combo set will just make that same character slightly irritated? Nothing was consistent or maintained a natural current,
The plot was boring and entirely too dragged out, this show relied entirely too much on cliffhangers like literally every episode was a cliff hanger. And most people liked the past side plot but honestly I didn’t see a point because we all knew what was going to happen. Honestly it could’ve been skimmed over the show would’ve had the same impact in my opinion.
The script was just repetitive and infuriating how so many “deep and meaningful” conversations happened between the tension of characters and just gave up talking midway? Before anything could be I guess conveyed or felt? And how many times are the older characters going to say “this world isn’t what it used to be”? Like holy shit it felt ageist after awhile like old people really hate the new generation because we have evolved with the times and that’s simply not true. And ultimately those kind of elderly ppl check out of society anyway because they lived their life already.
In total the show was just trash I really can’t process the good bits because it was overshadowed so much

@@NerdettesNewsStand off shore oil rig. The company I work for contracts dredges for clean up around rigs in the gulf. Even if a rig is shut down the dredges mus be operational .One the dredges broke down I volunteered to go fix it.
