- Trolling with lures for Weakfish (also known by the name Squeteague) an invasive species in Europe.
The Weakfish (cynoscion regalis) is native to the Atlantic coast of North America. it does not reach more than 1 meter and 9 kilos compared to the Meagre (also known as Corvina , Croaker, Jewfish) which can reach 2 meters and 100 Kgs (Argyrosomus regius). These 2 species are members of the same family Sciaenidae commonly called drums or croaker.
The first specimens in Europe were caught in the Gulf of Cadiz in Spain in 2015. It gradually settled in the Portuguese estuaries. This invasive species has no natural predators in the European sea, which makes it able to survive without major difficulties and inevitably affects the remaining native species.
Many native species use estuaries as a nursery. In the estuaries there are juvenile fish of some species such as the Sea Bass , Spotted sea bass , Cuttlefish and Flounder. The estuary is important for these species because it provides them with food and protection. The Queen forms large and stays in these breeding or nursery areas for most of the year and being a voracious predator feeds on these species. There are no Studies to evaluate the real impact of this invasive species.
I recall that many of the species we most appreciate, such as European Sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) , cuttlefish( Sepia), Gilt-head bream (Sparus aurata), Sea bream (Diplodus sargus) and European Corvina or Meagre (Argyrosomus regius) don't exist on the American Atlantic coast.

La corvina es un pescado de primera calidad, muy apreciado junto con el pargo rojo o guachinango y con el robalo e igualmente el mero....asi si da gusto pescar, amigo....que buen día!

ici au Portugal ils restent dans les estuaires, ils vont à la mer mais ils ne sont pas loin de l'embouchure. Merci mon amie

deu de tudo um pouco, eu penso que vá ser aqui como no Douro os Luciopercas, tiveram o período de expansão e depois o declínio que o pessoal limpa-os a todos, em breve vais ver muita gente a malhar nelas e a população decresce
João, pode ser que estejas certo mas e as trutas regressaram aos locais onde habitualmente eram pescadas por exemplo ? o problema é que esta meninas comem robalos relativamente grandes....enviaram-me uma foto.
@ então será diferente de no rio, até porque no rio já raros são onde Trutas se reproduzem, tem demasiada poluição, e nos rios de alta montanha onde fazem as libertações de Trutas de viveiro assim que se sabe é romaria, até com redes,,,

Ao contrario do que disse a dourada existe nos estados unidos e bastante , boa pescaria.
Pode confirmar por favor se é a Dourada (Sparus aurata ) Gilt-head bream que existe no Estados Unidos a pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sparus_aurata não faz parte da área de distribuição da espécie. Obrigado
Muitas vezes os peixes tem o mesmo nome do outro lado do Atlântico (por exemplo no Brasil) mas as espécies são diferentes o robalo é um exemplo
Há muitas no Rio Sado Corvina americana ou corvinata
André, sim são uma praga ! E muitas acima de 5kg
@ dizem que o máximo são entre 9 a 10 kilos de peso só apanhei no máximo 2 com 2 kilos uma com 2.10 kg e outra com 2.700kg
No inverno passado pesquei várias com mais de 4 kg todas com amostras
