- The new Predator Ghost 212cc racing engine has been popular lately, and it performed near identically to the Tillotson 212 with a stage 1 kit in our 8 way Honda clone shootout, so we decided to make a dedicated head to head test to compare the price, performance, driving impressions, and overall value of the Ghost 212cc vs the Tillotson 212 with a stage 1 kit at the Virginia International Raceway kart track. You can't go wrong with either engine, but the Tillotson does give you more customization options at a better price point. What did you all think of this format?
Sometimes towards the gap there is a beveled edge (top) or a dot (top) or writing (top) if there is nothing at all it doesn't matter .....99% of the time...

I paid $250 for my ghost engine and $120 for the kit witch you don't have to buy. You can still get a ton more power out of the ghost and put any pipe you want on it. The excuse you made over and over on the video about why your favorite engine (tillotson) is way cheaper and if it didn't have this problem or that problem makes it a better engine is not true at all. Harbor freight has 20% off cupons all the time. I have to call bull shit . The ghost is the better value at the same price and still smokes the Tillotson. I love the videos tho.

Charles was in complete controll of that cart he was so smooth with his steering tracking he literally drifter the whole corner like he was driving straight lol Johns tracking was twitchy at first untill he got the hang of it but both great drivers dude they have came so far on so many driving platforms John didn't grow up in the power sports game like most did he got his first go cart at like 18 I'd say so most of us grew up and got our experience over time John is right there with the rest of us in 7 years go John 🤘🤘
I have to say I've watched a lot of the videos and in my opinion I think Charles makes a great addition to the team. Very knowledgeable and funny! Keep up the great work going guys.

I’d probably just get a regular predator 212 for $150 and do some mods (bigger carb, headjob, governor removal etc.)

You don't have to buy the $150 accessories pack. You can buy the go power sports stuff and put on it. I don't think you really addressed that in the videos. $10 air filter and a $30 exhaust pipe. It already comes with a better carb and better engine parts. $300 for the ghost engine vs $240 for the tillotson engine. The price difference is even smaller if you can pick up the ghost engine in the store vs paying $30 shipping.
Ghost engine also doesn’t come with a fuel tank. Add these to the ghost, and your still 100 more than the tilly. Take that 100 to upgrade the till slightly and and your even if not ahead. Plus the access kit for the ghost comes with a pulse pump which wasn’t mentioned if it was installed so that alone on the tilly may even it up.
I always carry a coat hanger for the side of the trail....now. Lol. Thanks Charles. Love you guys. :)

I'd try to find ones with Bigger gears than what's on your racing go karts though by one to two sizes if you're go kat has the clearance space for them is another key factor in the matter of getting more speed.& Be able to use A bigger rear axle shaft gears on those go karts. Good luck guy's.

The cost part isn't really fair. This Ghost engine just came out. Anyone who has been shopping at harbor freight for years knows the price will go down for new products. They always do. I remember the Hercules table saw was like $500. Then people were like, "ok, why not just get the DeWalt table saw?". Now you can get the saw for $350.
Suit up and bring those supercheap moped scooter thingys for a race. And a fair handicap like the 150cc scooters have to finish a root beer every ten laps or something along those lines.

What are the high RPM vehicles we hear racing in the background?
Just an idea. Instead of getting off the gas petal bump the brake. That will help to keep your RPMs up and will set your kart for each corner.
You can do that on high speed ovals. Doesn't work well on asphalt road courses.
i know why the carburetor was leaking on the ghost it was because the engine was at s tilt along with the carb

Hey guys, I loved the comparison video however some details could’ve been spoken about a bit more clearly. The ghost accessory kit comes with a pulse pump, was that installed on the ghost by chance? Also were the fuel levels in the tank on the higher side. Someone in the comments says that a full tank would keep more fuel around the outlet giving the tilly more consistent fuel and performance. Any thoughts?
If you watch the vid they mention the ghost pulse pump more than once. Clearly it was installed. The Tillotson was the one having fuel starvation problems due to the g's which they contrasted with the ghost which had the pulse pump.
No doubt they would have tried a higher fuel level, but it probably didn't completely fix the problem because the tank was much further forward of the Tillotson carb, and just barely higher as you can see in the video. So fuel lines would have been more horizontal than ideal and therefore much more susceptible to g's despite fuel level.
I have a related but not specific to this video question.... What's good starting jets for a vm22 on a 196/212 mini bike with stage 1 parts?

Does the tiltson come with all the parts that the 150 dollar goast kit comes with?
Seems like there should only be a 50 dollar difference because if you didn't buy the goast kit and just used the same parts you used with the Tillotson. Not trying to be pro goast anti Tillotson just asking questions. Or you could have used the giast kit on the Tillotson but what carb came with the Tillotson?

Filling the tank would have fixed that so called problem on the tilli..stop being biased
There’s no mention in the vid of fuel level in the tank so you’re assuming they’re unequal, and they’re giving a biased review. Also the ghost accessory kit they mentioned comes with a pulse pump, that if installed gave the ghost an advantage if it was installed. They didn’t mention that either. Don’t spout a comment like you were there and accuse bias. Multiple factors weren’t specifically mentioned so if you think the video and results may be skewed, use the comment section to ask a few questions that may get answered or point out this or that was missing in video and again ask for clarification. Be willing to learn or teach instead of thinking your the text book.

Dude just put the pump from the ghost on it. Its what 2 screws and 3 hose clamps. Imagine if you had good sticky tires. Basically the ghost is still a better motor

Just find a relative that works at HF and get 20% off. Makes the Ghost a $240 engine at that point.
Tillotson is a great company, I hope some day they make a big block ,just for the off road karts 30 hp works lol maybe 460 cc or so,great video guys 57 years old and still a child,😆 lol

This was a great video I’m currently building my own mini bike from nothing and a rusty frame its a 212 engine from harbor freight and so far I got the throttle working just needs brakes and a new axle but hopefully I can get those soon and hopefully a new seat well wish me luck guys ❤️
A piece of scrap wood from a build sight,and Walmart cloth,(I've even used a .50cent yard sale shirt),can make and cover a seat.Good luck ! Spray contact glue,and or staples.

so power wise ghost 212 performed better than the stage 1 tillotson so if you put a bigger carb and degoverned coil on the ghost itd be really quick the ghost just came out so of course it more expensive give it time and itll probably be cheaper than the tillotson both are good engines
The ghost I belive is made to race with the lo206 or “stock” class where the upgrade parts are against the rules
Been waiting on seeing how these two compare and I’m surprised by the outcome the ghost I figured would be about dead nuts with the tillotson but was faster. Would really love a rematch with all the quirks worked out and fresh tires but that’s asking a lot.

Great video as always guys! I especially liked Charles' controlled slide coming through the last turn at 12:53 where he keeps his foot planted and the wheel never comes off center on through to the straight. Nice driving!

The ghost is an absolute way better deal! Not to mention you won’t have to remove a governor or deal with that at all or that the predator has more aggressive internals stock than the Tillotson. I’m a huge fan of you guys, but this video is straight bad facts 🤦♂️
I don’t wanna say you guys are wrong but saying the ghost is 500 and it’s 100 more then the tillotson I think is far fetched on go power sports a tillotson 212 stage 1 engine is 420 and the cheapest header they have is 30 then a 22mm carb is 100 that comes out to 550

The whole test was tilted toward your sponsor. I like apples to apples, not apples to pears. Those are close, but not interchangeable.

PLEASE PLEASE get away from the round tri-figure steering wheels! John, if you catch that front wheel in a burm or wall your thumbs are gone buddy! Stop trying to pump up go power sports. You can tell they the ghost is better.
Them Karts are suspension set up for circle track ovals not right turns that's why it goes nuts to the right look at the front spindle on both fronts you will see is lower for more bite on left turns. Although it can be altered for road course yours would perform and make better times. I do have two race Karts and some knowledge thank you

That looks awesome! I bet the weight to torque Ratio is insane considering that there Dimensions are close to a Honda clone!
My guess with the ghost is after putting the no limiter coil on is you ran out of carburetor so the 22mm carb probably would have kept the power going after the 6500rpm. And also it probably started leaking because it didnt have the capacity for the extra rpms
That is what I realized to, it may need a bigger carb that carb can't take that power ,or if it has a drain bolt it wasn't sealed properly.
The cast iron flywheel in the ghost will go at that RPM. Get the tillotson (or a wildcat)
Watched your videos since 2019, always wanted a go kart, and I finally got a fox lxt, like a manco dingo but under the fox name I guess, I have a problem where the clutch kicks in really hard and I'm worried about it, Don't know a fix. Anyway love your videos wish they were more often but that's asking a lot from you. [I think I am gonna buy a hat]

@@nwee5758 Centrifugal clutches are new to me. I'm used to manuel clutches and they are alot easier to dial in with dirt bikes and motorcycles

I'd love to see you do a video with total seal piston rings as a mod. With no ring gap (it has ring gap but its covered) the piston is sealed up and has a good bit more vacuum and compression

Remember to look over.& Check out the teeth on those gears really good first before mounting them on to your machine's though. Cause you might half to use the size of ⚙️ gears to have reproduction ones made. Witch can be 3D printed out.,or pressed stamped out to fit. Your chain size& gear sizes is what will matter on that part of it all. By outside diameter.& Inside rear axle diameter is the 🗝️ key part along with chain teeth.,or tooth size. Along with how many teeth is on the rear axle gear also.
i know you guys probably won’t respond to my comment but i’m currently building a budget drag/ pit trike with a 420cc engine, it’s getting a 250 twister cam, an amr500 supercharger driven at a 1.16 ratio, and plan to run e85. i only plan to rev it to about 5000 and i have almost everything sorted out except for what carburetor i should use. if anyone could throw me any suggestions it would be much appreciated as i don’t have a lot of experience in the matter
