Another - very useful tut. I don't mind how short or long your tutorials are.. You get to the point, and that's what i need. More of these would be good, Thanks.
@@7MinuteAETutorials Hi Jeff, sounds delicious ! Always love your stuff. You know your stuff ! No BS, just AE !! ( did you patent that expression ? you should ! ) 🙂
Thank you for sharing this!! Simple, but absolutely live-saving, I wish I noticed that ages ago. Btw. you can apply the same logic to Shape Layers (New Mask -> change the Transform properties of the group/shape) or any imported object like an Illustrator layer (New Mask -> Adjust the mask if any pixels fall outside the bounds -> animate the object using Transform Effect, not properties -> in Transform effect's Compositing Options apply the mask as a Reference Mask)
The concept so nice I applied it to my layer twice! This is great, and my favorite part about it is that I'm going to add it to my growing collection of custom presets. Cheers!
That was great, I have shied say from text animation too long. The simple tips - WELL EXPLAINED - (sorry did I shout there?) are incredibly valuable. I watch all you do and this was one of the most impressive for method of delivery. Thanks for your time in preparation. KP
Actually, you can :) Click on the ANIMATOR the go to ANIMATION/SAVE ANIMATION PRESET. I have a ton of these animations saved myself. Give it a try and let me know what you think. I'll cover thiis in the next video.
I think you can use the opacity control of the text animation too, so you don't need to as the mask. Adding the mask only works if you don't have to change the text.. What if you need to change the size of font or the text itself.. the mask will not automatically update
If you increase the layer scale, the mask will increase with it. Otherwise, you can reset the mask. But you're right, you can also add in the opacity text animator. You don't get the exact look. It doesn't really reveal it using that method, but rather fades in. I was mimicking the look of using alpha mattes with this tutorial in order to illustrate what I thin is a better, more efficient method of getting the same exact look. Thanks for the comment!
Listen up, how about making a short cool video from scratch using premiere pro? Yeah it'll be longer but learning lots of stuff at once while actually understanding why is a nice way to retain and understand them.
Thanks for watching. I've never been much of a Twitter user but, I agree. I need to be more active on these other channels. Life gets to be too overwhelming :) Thanks again for watching this channel. I really appreciate it.
@@7MinuteAETutorials Jeff thx for all ur kind words man, and listen, Kelsey was looking for a graphic designer to team up with and asked for your portfolio, i mentioned you there for her.
This channel has become my go-to for quick, to the point tutorials on complex subjects. Absolutely the best. The new format is great.
Thanks so much! I really appreciate that.

Hi again Jeff, watching this one yet again, it's a good one !
I have a new tutorial coming out. Been working on it but haven't had a chance to finalize it. Should be up soon!
@@7MinuteAETutorials Hi Jeff, sounds delicious ! Always love your stuff. You know your stuff ! No BS, just AE !! ( did you patent that expression ? you should ! ) 🙂
This was great! I didn’t know about this way to reveal and control text - I’m just learning AE. Def bookmarked this video!
Thanks so much for watching!
AE Studio w/ Jeff Knight has a good ring to it!
I like this tutorial format.
I like the format. Your Text Animator Rock Star series is fire but understanding the logic of why is important. So this format is great for that.
I truly appreciate that. Thanks for the comment and for watching!
Thanks a million for this, I've been stressing on the mask feature and all using alpha mattes for all the layers.
100% agree. Just a little more time to setup in the first place.
awesome tutorial man, saved me a lot of time and learned something new

Excellent.
great tutorial! keep them coming
Nice one as always!
Thanks!
Nice tutorial! Very helpful.
Good tip…. Thanks
great Tutorial ¡¡¡¡
I normally use alpha mattes, too. This is a much better way of revealing text. Now, if we could just save this as an action, like in Photoshop. :)

@@7MinuteAETutorials Correct, you CAN save it as a preset. I spoke too soon! Thanks, Jeff.
Oh how I wished there was a course for everything text animators. It’s definitely an in depth topic that I would love to master.

This is an After Effects channel, so doing a video on Premiere Pro wouldn't really hit the mark.
