An unmentioned topic are codeshare agreements between rail and airlines. Part of your "flight" might actually be a train ride to your final destination. Instead of threatening the airlines to take away a piece of their cake, frame it that they can outsource expensive and unattractive feeder routes to railway operators, even opening up the possibility to sell flights to cities that don't even have an airport!

Two weeks ago I flew through Frankfurt to Riga, Lativa. Riga's airport is tiny but is getting a high speed station as part of the Baltic rail initiative. Construction of the new high speed staton in Riga's Central Station is under construction now. I have connected to trains from flights to Frankfurt and Munich, and Frankfurt is seamless, Munich requires an S-Bahn trip to to the Munich Hauptbahnhof. In NJ, where I am, Amtrak has a station at Newark Liberty airport on the Northeast Corridor.

My wife is Chinese. She and her family report that business and vacation travel from Hong Kong and the environs as well as Shanghai to Beijing is now via HSR. If business travel meetings often take place on the train in a compartment. Just how it has developed.

At this point the U.S high speed infrastructure is an absolute joke.

All talk, Why? Because it's America, and americans can talk a big game. Highspeed bullet train technology which is also, (fully electric) is something the mighty United States of America should of had decades ago. And for decades all they did is talk about it and sat back and watched the far more advanced countries of the far east and Europe continue to give rise in these great modern marvels of transportation, improving infrastructure and economic growth. Sorry America but I'll believe it when i see it....

Your probably right but it should. But with the cost that it takes to construct these project I dont see it happening. At least until we can build things cheaper
