This will be a timeless video because it doesn't care about artstyle and game engine, so I can see it becoming a classic over the years. Could as well be titled "VFX Fundamentals"
very good way of explaining core concepts and breaking them down into smaller and simpler ideas. amazing work, hope you plan to continue this format :)
@@onetupthree I develop in Godot and I'd pay $15-$20 for a clean tutorial/mini-course by you on the fundamentals and core principles of making this sort of stuff. Yours is a quality above the rest. You make it look easy. Keep me informed if you put something out. (the coding approach, for instance)
@@slephy there was another comment here asking about paid courses and unfortunately i don't see myself making one any time soon 🙇♂ but if that changes i'll let you know :) won't affect the stuff i upload here either way i just checked your channel too btw! the kinematic tool looks sick as hell 🔥if i get back into 3d animation ill definitely check it out
loved this! keep them coming! it’s great how you’re just talking about the theories that help us understand why things look the way they do. makes this watchable for people who have the technical knowledge but something still doesn’t feel quite right
I made VFX for years now and I do grasps the technique for each type of VFX, but the Impact of it sometimes hit or miss for me. I never understood the theory behind it until now! Thank you so much for sharing this very helpful insight!
Well made and quite interesting! I must say that the before/after made me feel like watching a spell level 1 versus the same spell fully upgraded at the end of the game. It's an interesting thought to imagine the VFX evolve and becoming more lavish when leveled up. Anyway thank you for the video!
Great video!! Another trick for helping VFX look like they are more grounded/actually in the environment and glowing/emitting light is to add a large and very soft subtle glow particle over everything. In addition to the actual light it just adds a bit of "haze" as though its also lighting up the dust/atmosphere/whatever would be in the air around it - it works extra nicely on larger vfx too
@@onetupthree No not at all haha I just make gaming videos, tho I do watch stuff about after effects/editing/art and even tho its about VFX there's some great lessons in there that can apply to a lot of other stuff
8:35 Down in this context means toward the center of the planet, so if your game involves running and jumping from one mini planet to another, the VFX should be attracted toward the nearest planet. If the game is a side scroller where you have the power to flip gravity, all the VFX should be affected too.
thanks! :D - for more 'step-by-step' stuff, Gabriel Aguiar Prod and 1MaFX are pretty good 👌 - if you search Artistic Principles of VFX you'll see the playlist by VFX Apprentice for more conceptual stuff; and - I also have some videos in my channel under the "VFX Tutorials" for shaders and "VFX Breakdowns" for breakdowns of 2 of my pieces🙇♂
I'm now really interested in knowing what the impact of VFX is on the real environment though. How many degrees warmer is the world due to various VFX and rendering them. In movies and in games? Anyway cool video.

But be really careful with camera shake. It makes a lot of people feel physically sick. At least add an option to disable it otherwise they won't be able to play your game
fun fact: i say "VFX" 25 times in this video
