The Z is a good drivers car but the Evo is the scalpel while the Z is a butter knife. Totally different platforms and power delivery. Curious to see how this Z will hold up on these track days over time. My track days are over but still fun to watch you youngsters having fun. • @Erowens98
      @Erowens98 5 років тому +30

      Back when the Z was new it was one of the fastest cars in its price bracket. It punched well above its weight.
      The 2003 was within a few seconds of the porsche Cayman around the nordschleife 8:26. And the 2007 was faster than the dodge viper srt-1 unofficially. Almost equal to the Evo IX. 8:11 is the best '07 z33 time i could find.
      I don't understand why people keep calling this slow. For a mid 2000's car, at $30000. This was quick ad hell.

      It is slow, I drive the convertible version. It is a good entry sports car because it is easy to drive and fun to drive.
      Sub 4-5 second 0-60 I consider fast, the 350Z is only about mid 5s which is about the same or slower than a new Toyota Camry SE

    • @stasisthebest
      @stasisthebest 5 років тому +11

      @@Lolatyou332 you literally just proven my point. It's fast because 99.5% of what is on the road is slower. Last time I've seen a sub 5 car was this summer and it was a ferrari superfast that belonged to a foreigner tourist. I never seen a camry since they dont sell in my country. Nor will you ever find a car with not minimum engine spec unless it's an actually rich person. They dont even sell subaru here since their engines are not up to enviromental standarts.

    The 350Z is a solid platform. I don't know why they get so much hate. I mean, sure, maybe it's because most of the vape boys buying them talk them up to be the fastest thing out there but in general, they're not a bad driver car. I really like what you've done so far! Biggest mistake when buying a 350z is not buying the HR versions. They are rare, but the engine is seriously better than the originals and the rev-up. The non-HR versions had 285 hp with the old SAE ratings. In 2007, this also changed and under the new standards is made around 250. The HR versions made 305 with the new SAE standards, which means it made around 320 under the old standards.

    This is a car that I remember coming out when I was in high school and I keep finding myself looking at them on craigslist. A brz would be great, sure....but....a 350...for what you can get them for (heck, hoonigan just picked one up for $2200, which is actually close to my budget! I mean, it's a mess, sure.), it's hard to find something comparable honestly.
    Love the channel, LOVE this series and am really looking forward to seeing how much the car mods vs how much you end up enhancing your driver mod.
    Are you planning on keeping the car more streetable, or going a bit nuts on performance?

    • @GearsandGasoline
      @GearsandGasoline  5 років тому +6

      Streetable is less of a concern than lappable. No turbos or anything for a long time. Need to make sure it can give me lots of seat time. But it probably won't stay super comfortable for the street.

    I miss my Z. I also had a 2003 350Z Enthusiast at 19 years old as my second sports car. I had a 2001 Mustang V6 at 18 for just a week. Living in Utah I had to trade my Z for my current 2017 GTI so that I could drive up to the mountain for snowboarding. My Z was by far my favorite car ever, I got it in the Fall last year and drove it through the winter with the 20s that the previous owner put on them with summer tires. I am for sure going to get another one later in life. That was the best car ever. I love the video.

    Rad and Oil Cooler are a must to make sure that thing just keeps pounding out laps. Also skip the brembos and go straight to the Akebono calipers from the 370Z. No pad knock-back like the Brembos. Other than that High Flow cats and a Intake Plenum spacer are the best mods to get a little more power out of it. Then have it tuned and have the rev limiter raised for even more VQ sound fury. Love the new car. Keep up the amazing work.

    Wow, this was such a great video. I bought a 2007 san marino blue 350z after graduating HS, and it's been with me through almost 5 years of college. I've become pretty apathetic about it despite putting in effort to have a proper suspension setup (similar to yours), and all of the bolt ons etc. Your video is a reminder to me of just how simple yet great the 350z platform is. Maybe I'll take it out for a spin soon :)
