My mom used to play this song to us when I was little (80s). I remembered it and with this search played it as my 6 month old fell asleep. Thank you for posting.

Grateful for posting. I learned this song as part of a story. I will tell that story in church this Sunday, and Tony Dinuzzo will be singing this song. (UU Fellowship of Galveston TX)

Love, Love, Love, Bob's Music and jokes. My uncle was a big fan and purchased 3 LPs. Last year I went to visit my mom before the cancer took her, and my uncle let me make mp3's, my 2 favorites are his completely clean dirty song where he sings Marty Robbins' El Paso and leaves out words for the listener to fill in themselves :-), the other is his rendition of Vincent (starry starry night) really wish the family could legally release all his recordings, they are a national treasure.... ok, an Iowan treasure.

Bob Cook was my great uncle. He was my grandmother's brother. We were all sad to hear of his death.

Thanks so much for sharing this. I lived in Iowa from 99-07 and I used to go hear Bob play any chance I could. I wish I could get my hands on some of his recordings.

My mom sang a slightly different version of this.
It didn’t include the river stanzas. I’m glad to hear a different version.

I remember the Wakonda lounge that had live music next to the Baskin- Robbins. A great folk singer Bob Cook and Gary Audsley the best base player I ever heard, played there. Bob later opened the Watering Hole out on Merle Hay road was a bigger better place to enjoy them. Bob also did a lot of voice over work on TV ad's. I just did a search on Apple music and was pleased to find one of his albums and songs like " Love is a Verb" " Kretchma" "Desperados" "Rose" a total of 31 GREAT sons Almost as good as You Tube

@pshell1952 I never knew Bob but loved him and his band back in the Waterhole days. My wife and I bonded to his music. I have several old record albums (Devil Records?) in perfect shape, I believe in the 1970's that I could part with, along with my own CD recording of Bob being interviewed and playing on KFMG (?) radio. I know he sings Angel Eyes on this show. I would love to get more of his music and am open to helping out others and especially trading for some of it.

We need to meet, maybe at Fredrichs Coffee. I can give you the CD and also a DVD of Bob's show Cross Country. The show was from 1975. Various songs including Odin. Let me know when you would be avilable. Pat

Rob, I see you mentioned that you had some tapes of you and Bob. I am working with Gary Audsley to record everything we can that Bob was on. I have most of Bob's recordings that were out in the garage. Probably some stuff you don'r even have. Copies are free to anyone that helps out with the library of songs Bob did. Could you respond to this e-mail and see if we can't get together. Pat Shell

cozlen1, I would really like get to gether with you and exchange some of the music that I have, that was never released, for anything that you can allow me to borrow so that I can make copies of it. I meet with Gary Audsley frequently at Fredericks coffeeshop on 22nd St. Would it be possible for the three of us to get together. I know Gary would love to see any of the old fans. Please let me know what would work for you. Pat shell
