  • Just an old video of my 998cc, spec is:
    Flat top pistons
12G295 head, polished, ported and skimmed
    Kent 266 camshaft
    Belt drive timing kit
Ultralight flywheel with AP metallic clutch plate
    TITAN 1.5 roller rockers
Twin HIF38 carbs without airfilters (Not setup)
RC40 single box exhaust on Maniflow LCB 1.75"
    But drives pretty well.

Absolutely love this Mini. Color, look, sound... it’s all perfect. Though I dream of 1275’s and engine swaps, I’ve always had a soft spot for the 998 A-series. Might be time to go hunt for some 12g295’s!

I used to have a 12g295 and Maniflow exhaust. The 998 was as quick as our 1275 in acceleration, but did have lower gearing as it was in a Van.
998s are really nice free revving engines.

The best exhaust sound for a mini in my opinion

Thanks, i've got other videos of my mini on this account. Now running archless and with another 998 engine done up to the same specs apart from an HIF44 carb and standard cam :)

No you don't have to pocket the block for this camshaft. I even fitted a Kent 296SP camshaft for a while in this engine as seen in my other videos and no pocketing was required with that cam either :D
You will only need to pocket the block if you are fitting a 12g940 (1275cc head) cylinder head as the valves are too big to clear the cylinders.

The cam was already in the engine when i purchased it. Sometimes they crop up on Ebay or some mini related forums.

It has a 3.44 diff, goes pretty well for a 998 aswell, have seen the other side of 95mph :)

Where did you get the exhaust mate?

    @50ccpower  12 років тому

The engine already had the 12G295 head installed when i purchased it so i'm not sure on the compression ratio.

I don't have an exact figure but i may hazzard a guess at somewhere nearing the 55-60 mark, but really not sure.

I'll planning a 998 build and yours is the first I've seen with 1.5 lifters, I've heard good and bad things about fitting lifters what can you tell me?

Thankyou very much, yeah i've posted lots of pictures of it on those forums especially TMF :) The REIMS sticker is just made up at my local sign writers as all the other vinyl pieces are. It took me a while to get it looking how it is today but is worth it as i think the look is, for me perfect. Are you on TMF as i'm not sure if i've seen yours?

The 1000 1100 engines do that noise, way better than the 1300cc ;)

It was an RC40 single box centre exit.
