As a med student who has had to learn every single bone, muscle, tendon, organ, vein, artery and nerve in the body, your anatomical knowledge is on point. Also you pointing out and explaining how artists like Rubens create muscles that don't even exist but it still looks believable because they have that larger mass set correctly in place has answered a question I had been asking myself ever since I learned anatomy! Thank you so much for that haha.
I had not picked up a drawing tool for many, many years, (2.5 decades is closer to the truth) and recently, at age 52, decided to take it up again. I started watching some of your videos (this one, and many of your others as well) as a "refresher course", and found that I remembered some things, , but had forgotten even more. Your videos have been incredibly helpful in reminding me of things I knew, and in teaching me even more that I never knew. I look forward to watching all of your videos. They are incredibly instructive. Thank you for posting them. They have to be the best on UA-cam. :)
You are not alone with a 25 year departure and looking at 56, Alphonso has had me finding artist materials in a local market, not an easy call where I am cadugan11.
Your videos help me immensely in becoming better in drawing. You have this rare ability to teach, meaning to explain these inner workings involved in creating complex drawings. Thanks a lot.
Thank you SO much for these lessons! :D From the first video in this series, I was a bit confused as to how drawing all of those simple forms would help us improve. But as I went on through each video, it became increasingly clearer and I was very quickly encouraged and inspired! This was a wonderful lesson, and I'm anxious to get ahold of my sketchbook when I get home to begin those practices and follow along through your lessons again. I'm also excited to see your other tutorials and discover what else I can learn :D I'm very grateful that you took the time to share all of this with us!
Alphonso, your How to Draw Complex Forms series is very helpful. When I draw I'll try to think about the BIG PICTURE more. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Very good tutorial. You made me think differently about how to draw and shade. I first always thought minor masses were important but thankfully you cleared that up.
Takes me back to early CAD (Computer Aided Design) and wire models, principle is the same, build the bones and pack the flesh. Why did I never see it all those years ago? Because there was no Internet and someone to explain/teach/coach/all of the above/ it. Loved the Natural Lines video as well Alphonso.
I love your videos, and I'm just saying that you are the best teacher I've ever seen! I'm from Brazil and I follow your channel! Many thanks for all the videos!
Alphonso I just want to say thank you so much for this. I've been looking for any tips on how to draw like michelangelo, and when I discovered these videos I also came upon some general information about drawing that will be extremely useful to help facilitate my learning process. Such as letting the major masses take the main stage. Bless you man. P.S.Do you have any info on how to create those incredible soft facial forms that Da Vinci and many other renaissance painters seem to achieve?
Hey Alphonso Dunn i Learn a LOT from your videos and thanks for extender eraser trick i never think before , and i have a lot of short pencils xD thanks man
Does he have any videos on learning anatomy? There are so many artists that teach how to draw in their style, but this guy seems like the best at learning actual real life anatomy. I'm new to it so I can't tell 100%, but it seems like he doesn't simplify anatomy, which seems important in order to learn properly.
Hi @alphonsodunn ! I have loved your videos, I have been frustrated with the way drawing is imparted by teachers and your lessons have been very straightforward, thank you! Do you have a tutorial on drawing clothing on people?
hi, i'm new to the channel and i think this video is quite helpful, but i can't seem to find the previous parts in your video list... are they still available?
Have you heard of Udemy.com? If not, YOU should have your own online tutorial on there and get paid! I have paid to take "How to draw" classes on there and NONE of them make it as EASY as you do. I'm learning more from you here than I've learned from the ones I paid for online. Bravo!
You should be getting paid for this bruh. You are a great teacher.
***** thanks
Although drawing is just a hobby, can't describe how much I learned from you man. Thank You.
no worries :-)
Agreed!

Alphonso Dunn looks like my leg..haha...been watching your videos for years they never get old..thx buddy
I don't think there are any UA-camrs out there explain it like you do man you're the best teacher.
+Jay Don thanks much

:) I am going to have to watch this one over and over! Maybe you could put it on video so I can listen in my sleep! LOL I am very detail oriented. :)
being detail-oriented is not a bad thing, just know when to turn it on and off :-)
Maybe I should get a remote! Click on... click off! Lol j/k I have seriosly been trying!
Lisa Gods Girl Try it for a short period: Just do a series of drawings where you make it a rule to do details LAST
Ok:) thats a challenge that I will take!
Lisa Gods Girl :-)
Hi @alphonsodunn ! I have loved your videos, I have been frustrated with the way drawing is imparted by teachers and your lessons have been very straightforward, thank you! Do you have a tutorial on drawing clothing on people?

Amazing video :D what would you suggest for learning the different muscle groups/anatomy in general, to apply into my drawings?
