Darcy is in her first play! We show her getting ready and a few clips from the performance. We also talk about the stress and overwhelm that can sometimes come with a new placement. This can be expected! Your routines are changing! Learning to be flexible and flow with the changes can help get you through this adjustment period.
There is always a need for ❤LOVING❤, 💪SUPPORTIVE💪, and 🕒PATIENT🕒 foster parents who will ⚖ADVOCATE⚖ for the kids placed in their home. We hope that by us sharing our journey as a foster family, that it inspires others to learn more. Contact your county, foster care agency or visit www.adoptuskids.org to learn more.

Congrats to Darcy for getting her first role!!! Whitney dont worry about "those" days, we all have them from time to time.

As someone who grew up doing shows most of my childhood, I definitely recommend taking breaks between shows! When I was able to drive, I did shows back to back and even multiples at the same time, which was crazy. Doing shows back to back for me as a kid meant I had no childhood growing up, as I was too busy going to rehearsals and performances. I had a lot of fun but I definitely missed out on experiences my friends had, as well as a lot of family time! :) It can become really tempting to just keep going nonstop, though, as you can get into a groove and you start making connections with other local theatre people! :D I am sooooo proud of her for stepping on stage for the first time! I wish you guys the best with theatre and the performing arts, as well as, of course, fostering. :)

That sounds exhausting! Luckily these productions for this age are just 1x a week so we may try to swing it…. Because of how things line up and how Darcy showed them how dedicated and talented she is…. So yeah, why not lol

@@BeTheVillageCommunity People always worry about overscheduled children. I wanted to be busy with activities, I enjoyed it a lot but not just theatre. My Mom wasn't pushing me into anything so i think that's key. I dabbled in a little bit of everything... all types of art classes, tumbling, soccer, I tried karate, etc. I never felt like I missed out on any experiences but then again it wasn't just theatre. I usually had 2 activities going at a time like maybe karate M/W/F and art classes Tues/Thurs. I think as long as you pick up on Darcy's cues then it'll all be fine, I'm sure she'll be having a blast!! Luckily, with you having all this training on foster care you also are probably better at picking up on a child's subtle cues than most of us who don't foster.

@@BeTheVillageCommunity oh wait only once a week? Yeah, that’s way different and awesome!!! Mine were five nights until we got closer to the performances, then six. Hahaha This is really amazing and I love this for both you guys and her so much! Props to the theatre you are working with. That leaves plenty of time for life to happen offstage. :) I look forward to hearing about her future productions.

Love seeing they had no issue including the ensemble child's wheelchair! I did ensemble in Beauty and the Beast a few years ago with my local adult theatre company, and they were horrifically rude about my wheelchair, it was incredibly inaccessible and when I requested the person (the director) stop parking in the disability parking spot as my chair struggled getting up the hill I was suddenly placed in the very back and the only person without a mic.

Darcy being called the oldest child trew me off for a second. Miss A had become such a natural part of the family it took me a sec to remember that she isn't your child in the end. I am glad she is doing well though and wish her and her family all the best.

I really loved your video. It was great hearing an update on the family and all the kids. I loved seeing clips from Darcy’s performance.
One thing I noticed and I know you had nothing to do with it,as you’re just the mom with a kid in the production, but I absolutely LOVED seeing that there was a kid in a wheelchair in the show. As person who has been physically disabled from birth I get giddy inside when I see kids (and adults) doing really normal stuff and with other ‘typical’ kids or seemingly typical kids and adults.
Maybe if possible could you let the group that puts these on and directs them how vitally important is for everyone involved to see people with disabilities doing normal things and thanking them for doing just that.

I would love to. I also have heard from some that if you aren’t adopted or a former foster youth that it isn’t your place to connect the 2 and use it as a platform to forward an agenda.
