It can't be understated how amazing Rob and Team where at the event! Rob showed up the day before the event, and stayed up late setting up tables for the main game. He and his team then spent the next 2 days running around, grabbing footage, and making everyone's day better. At the end of the event he then stayed after and helped clean up. YOU GUYS!! We had just asked them to be part of the event! To go so far above and beyond, to make this video, to offer all the extra help, for our tiny game store, it was humbling and amazing to see. Cheers to Rob and Viva La Dirt League! They clearly care about the TTRPG community and I will be a fan of theirs for life!

Really hope a lot of the channel viewers actually watch this. The set up was so creative, and something about seeing all the players and the passion put into the project just feels soooo uplifting. 1.4k people coming together as nerds having fun really fills the heart with joy.

The second I realized what Robbert Hartley was going to be doing, I was like: this is absolutly perfect for him! His improv skills are epic and he knows so many ways to tell a story, he will have no problems to chime in on every table and make it fun, and give it a much needed twist. And then we see the footage, and it is exactly what he did! Look at how much fun everyone is having: I feel that energy and want more!

Hey! :) It sounds like such an AMAZING event! As a game master who organizes D&D events for my local community (although for more like 20-30 people, so not quite 1200 yet), is there a way I can get my hands on some more in depth material on how you built this up? Happy to pay for it, of course, if you have an online shop of something like that!
This Event was AMAZING. I'm a Member of Rob's Patreon and when I saw the announcement that he was going to be coming to Utah for this, I immediately went screaming around the house to tell my husband. We can finally meet Rob! Signed up to volunteer for the Event, and requested work off that moment.
We were both Generals for this, which felt like a really important role. All the DM's and players were so nice. It was incredible to be involved and really felt like we accomplished something at the end. Getting to meet with Rob, and Ben, was definitely the reason we came but I feel like the reason we stayed changed. They were both super kind and would chat when we saw them around the Event, give little head nods to acknowledge we were nearby, and Rob was really great about me being super shy getting to meet him. (He even asked to take photos of my costumes for inspiration!) I was the Druid Tabaxi Day 1, and Woodland Fairy Day 2 (Seen in video at 3:49, 3:57, 4:32)
I sincerely hope that We Geek Together can pull this together again next year, maybe on an even bigger scale. More than that I hope VLDL sees the value in this Event and will send more than Rob on his lonesome to play.

I know Rob's by all means effectively a part of VLDL now, but seeing him with the VLDL shirt just feels as cool as when Ben, Hamish, etc, joined the team. It's always grand to see more mates join on and on as the team grows, both in size and how awesome they are. With Rob's arrival also came DnD, which was grand, and I can wait to see how the sketches and videos expand to even more different things with the next cool mate to join! :D

They were really smart with it. No complicated scenario, only two different colored cards. They knew that it would already be complex enough that way.
I can only imagine trying to balance an encounter for that many people! "You open the decaying wooden door and a million goblins are sat around a table playing cards"
You enter the last hidden chamber of the dungeon with the final boss. First 50 people roll initiative. The rest is queued up behind in the underground labyrinth with the last 100 standing outside waiting to be let in the dungeon.
Someone failed a perception check and stepped on a trap. Everyone takes 1D6 damage not because of the trap, but because of the stampede of panicking adventurers.
VLDL is my introduction to DnD, always hear about it but never understood it.
Even watching dnd skits on the main channel and never understood what the heck is happening.
You guys are making more people interested in dnd.

You helped in so many ways, it is ridiculous how my puny self is one of many countless numbers in the statistics, but regardless, I am one of them! And I have nothing but respect, joy and thankfullness towards your contribution. Even if it may seem unimportant to you, please remember, you made an inmpact on me, my life and my friends!

(Long read ahead :p sorry, just needed to get this out there)
Tbh for me, coming to the event on the last day was a very last minute decision. I had just gotten off of a grave shift overnight when i happened to come across a community post in which y'all posted, reminding me of the event that day. And i saw this as a perfect excuse to get a couple of my friends together from my old, in person dnd group to go and hang out.
Tbh just being with them in person again was a great experience, and we were very fortunate enough to meet some amazing people at the table I ended up dming last minute.
Now we have a new in person group, in which we have 5 players and a dm, which honestly is the best part about coming to this event. And after a several amazing sessions together, i see this group staying together for a loooong time.🎉
Fr though the event was fun, and meeting you and Duke in person was also a blast, despite how obviously nervous i was (I am blaming the no sleep after a grave shift for my inability to keep that in check ;p)
I guess what i am saying is, just wanted to thank y'all for putting up that post, if i had not stumbled across it, my friends and I would not have the amazing group we have today.
I love the dnd community so much. Bringing all people from all walks and shapes of life together to have fun. DND doesn’t judge. DND doesn’t discriminate. The world is a much better place with people like us ❤

@roberthartleygm dude seems like he is in his ultimate element! being a player in the world...but also forming the story for all the real players as a psuedo GM type guy. being able to save the day and help out. looks like you were having a blast!
I simply loved the detail that every table is playing with their own resources. You can see through the video some playing with expensive minis and map on one table, some playing with improvised minis and maps on the other and even some where it's just a plain paper.
Having fun is the goal. The resources you have to use are only secondary to that.
This is amazing to behold, I am so glad D&D is so readily accessible and so universally loved these days

This looks epic!
First time DM and I am just winging it but I have drawn inspiration from you. I like to describe the action and fire out a few bad guy quips. If one of the bad guys gets a one to hit, the next attack on that bad guy has advantage because he failed attempt was so bad the bad guy or Monster left an opening that the heroes are able to exploit one time. If the heroes find a note or a spell scroll, I write that down on a piece of paper and hand it to the players. Any spell would be a simple rhyme. For example, roots and Vines of every kind hold my foes in a bind. That of course is the entangle spell.

Hopefully! I'll be one of the costumed up peeps. So cool. It's hard to pull something like this off! Either way, I can't wait to see how this evolves. Communicators with ear buds for DM's and saying it's a spell being sent to the team? Will the new story arc build off the last? So many beautiful ways this could evolve, but it will get easier with time. Love all of your hard work! What an awesome game store wanting to do this too!
This looks awesome, Rob! The sheer amount of coordination required breaks my tiny brain, though. I can't imagine how high the IRL skill proficiencies are for everyone involved in this!
I watch you guys vicariously. D&D ended for me during the pandemic. I was working on new campaign, trying to find the time to get the band back together. We joked about the line from Stranger Things, "can we play D&D now?" My truest friend went in for surgery that same year and failed his saving throw...
This event fills my heart with joy as well as sorrow, definitely something the group would've been all for. Unfortunately death has a way of tearing people apart as much as it brings them together. This event is inspiring.

What a fenomenal achievement
This is pretty cool because it appears to pay tribute to the roots of how D&D started. If I remember correctly, in the very beginning, it was similar to tabletop war games. It was meant to have massive battles with multiple DMs and upwards of even hundreds of players before it began to take form of the D&D we all would come to know.
I was able to attend this year and it was so much fun! Such a creative and unique idea! Hope to see more people in years to come!

This is really mind blowing. All the coordination of the story and ensuring it goes smoothly is just insane on such scale.
I have always been a fan of ttrpg and played them in small groups. I know its silly, but I had high anxiety joining a table of six at a convention test playing the new Fall Out ttrpg, and bought one even the DM guide, with no social skills I still wanted it. Can't imagine the amount of energy in that area all having fun enjoying DnD.
That is just epic.
I hope all the people that have endured ridicule and bullying for their passions such as this know they are the reason that DnD is the coolest thing out.
