Day of sex: Human Revolution
Every time
I played through HR twice
Once, as a shooter, and another time, as a stealth game. Both were equally rewarding, and exciting.
I already have a robot limb. You'll never guess where.
Jong-un Kim Penis?
+Jong-un Kim I don't think that brain is a limb
+Jong-un Kim And of course your comment has 69 likes... of fucking course.

Your reviews are so amazing.
They aren't like, say, TotalBiscuit, in that they trawl through graphics and minute details or even the game-play.
What I really love about these videos are that they're more like an experience, going through the feelings and thoughts that come as an extension to the game.
I guess it's this review in particular that stands out to me, as I too adored Deus Ex: HR, pouring hours and hours into it.
The best part is that you understand the vast symbolism in the game, along with the thoughts of the future that the Dev's wove through it so well.
I hope we get to see something amazing in the next game, and in the future to.
Jason Galea Well TB is a game critic. What did you expect?
+Jason Galea tb handles it professionally and gives a critique on all the aspects and he actually does first impressions not reviews
I'm happy to tell you that Mankind divided was amazing.
I once killed everyone in the police station and looted everything, when i stepped outside i had the whole city against me and was gunned down in the streets, reloaded and did the whole mission stealth instead
lmao
@Headhunter_FRANK This comment is underrated.
Criminally underrated.
U Should've left police station through ventilation
2011 was my favorite yet in gaming we got skyrim arkham city uncharted 3 dead space 2 infamous 2 and this game SO FREAKING GOOD!!!!
The Witcher 2!
Meme Man Don’t forget Portal 2!
Don't forget dark souls
Minecraft
Wow, 2011 was a good year for gaming
I share the same first name and birth year as Adam Jensen.
You think this game couldn't be more immersive, think again.
xD
I have been playing this game in some capacity for 4 years straight
What did you think of the sequel?
I went into Deus Ex Human Revolution with no prior knowledge of the series. I honestly thought it was a cut and dry sci-fi shoot em up. What i got was an experience iv'e never gotten from anything else. Please give this enough time to appreciate what it has to offer.
Also Phill, Did you ever play John Woo's Stranglehold? I'd love to watch a video covering anything from that game. I feel it was very under appreciated.
infernojo3117 oh noooooo im not letting this comment go, stranglehold! STRANGLEHOLD! that is single handidly the worat game ive ever played and was not worth 10 bucks! everything was forgetable accept how boring and repetitive it was
Haha 6:20, that teaches you for taking that free upgrade from Tai Yong medical center! I thought it wash a little bit fishy so skipped the upgrade, I remember that boss fight made me glad I did!
Ronan Smith I can't find the clinic..... Thank god
What a great and well thought out review.
This dudes got a tache that won’t quit
Deus Ex Human Revolution is one of my favorite games if all time. I can't wait fior the sequel!
Joe Fisher hype meter increased above limit, overload detected
Joe Fisher Have you played the original deus ex?
TheFp333 I have not gotten around to it yet. Obsessed with CSGO at the moment.
Joe Fisher Hah, same as me then. Anyway, I started off with Human revolution too, and I loved it. I had to try the first game too, and it was just amazing. Despite it's age, that game is just sheer perfection.
TheFp333 I actually played the first game for like 20-30 minutes a long time ago when I had no clue what to do. It isn't the most intuitive game at first -_-
Deus Ex Human Revolution is 1 of the best games I've ever played
These videos are my favorite part of your channel, I get so happy when I see nostalgic review in my feed!
Beautiful review, deserves a ton of views so that people know where DX started from. this video is something you can show a non-gamer and still entice them. Well done!
@3:54: With the "Social Bosses" that Deus Ex has, they're actually rather difficult to pull off well technically and technologically. They need to have good writing, good animation, and good voice acting all working in tandem to make you feel like you're having a conversation with an actual person whose emotions and thoughts you can read. To use a good example of something similar: LA Noire had to put a lot of effort into making sure the facial animations and the like to make the interrogations work.
With the first Deus Ex game, you have good writing, but the voice acting is generally charmingly bad and the animation is virtually non-existent. So, the whole concept of reading a person through any particularly subtle cues goes out the window.
I keep finding myself coming back to this Phil. I agree that I've not experienced the same level of excitement for a game before or since. Those were the times.
What is a Deus ex video with "I never asked for this"
STRiKER He says it at the end of the video
TheNonya1 I meant that that quote is used in every Deus ex related video. So it wouldn't be a deus ex video without that quote
I asked for orange.. it gave me lemon-lime.
_What a shame._
He was a good man. What a rotten way to die.
"Nostalgic Review"if 2011 is nostalgic, i am a ww2 veteran
Nostalgia is something that reminds you of a part of your life. Not when you were a kid, in this case it's college. By the way, thank you for your service.
how do you define the past?
Not 5 years
Look up nostalgia, please. this comment coud be nostalgic for me tomorrow.
Definitely counts as nostalgic now 😅
Philip is the only person ive ever seen about deus x. I know nothing about it other than what he tells. It seems amazing bc of it
Very well made video, I love this game and you're use of the "I never asked for this at the end", made me crack up.
I love this game, especially the art style. One of the best games I've ever played.
probably my favorite game of all time besides metal gear solid, such an immersive philosophical game so beautiful and thought provoking
I bought this in the last sale but never came to play it. Now you encouraged me to actually start it.
OH MY GOD! 2kliksphilip a bomb!
***** *A BOMB.*
exploitativity Terrorists: "bomb planted!"
***** You've got ten seconds to beat it before I add you to the list of NSF casualties.
***** quick use the complicated augmented... screw it throw it out the window...
Why are you locked in the bathroom?
I fucking love your reviews philip! DO MOAR!!!!!!!!!
This just in, Deus Ex 4 will be releasing under the title of: Call of Duty: Black Ops 3
this game sits in my steam library for 1 year thanks to your video i wll give it a shot when i finnish my current single player game
I loved this game . The atmosphere and music were just amazing
Ah! I loved the police station. I remember the first time I played the game, I snuck into the police armoury and stole all their equipment so I had to myself. I have a sudden urge to play this game now.
I don't even play Deus Ex but I can't miss a kliksphilip video!
I'm only 16 so I didn't have much of a childhood to play Deus Ex :P I only played GTA's and Splinter Cell back in the day. I remember when I bought this Human Revolution when it came out. I played it 3 times and instantly became a Deus Ex fan. Kinda sucks that I missed Deus Ex 1 but I've bought it and it's sitting in my Steam Library :P I could play it after im done with GTA V :D
Those were the days Phil! To say we were all hyped is an understatement :)
You made me love Deus Ex more then I ever could imagined, thank you !
The slap fight (otherwise known as the takedown) never ceases to make me laugh.
Thanks for making this vid Philip. Will have to take this off my pile of shame on Steam.
I got the Director's Cut version back in December. And i can safely say this game is indeed one of the best FPS' ever made.
Your gifted at these reviews Phil. Just watched this and HL2. Shit-hot, well done squire.
When I saw trailers back in the early 2010's, I was also hyped because the "Deus Ex" franchise was going to be revived. A shame that I never got to play the game itself.
"Human Revolution" had most of the bells and whistles that the first game had, but what also struck me was how most characters seemed alive. Even when I was watching people's walkthroughs, I was hoping for characters to have good outcomes. One day I'll be able to accomplish that if I play "Human Revolution."
With "Mankind Divided" on the way, I'll look forward to "Deus Ex" being taken to another level. Here's hoping that there will be stronger ties to the original as well. Maybe we'll see the founding of UNATCO, meet the DuClares, learn how Bob Page and Walton Simons became megalomaniacs, and encounter the Denton brothers themselves.
I think what I liked most about this game was the music. Fantastic score!
I also remember how I bought this game when it was on sale and only played it a year later, just to finish half of it, probably.
Oh my did I get excited when I watched this trailer, came across it they day before release and just had to get it the next day. Never completed it, but I had a blast. The next one should be cool!
I am really happy to hear, that there are people who loved HR. Strangely it didn't make me care by far like the original. I played the original 9 times nearly. HR I played 2 times and the second one was very unimmersive.
the boss fights in deus ex were the most challenging moments for me. I'd save the game and try out different approaches. Flee? or set up a chain of LAMs in a corridor, only to run past it with the speed enhancement, so that by the time Walton Simon reached, he'd be blown, and I'd just loose a leg or two at max. This was more exciting, because, if i failed, I'd die, because I wasn't equipped for combat.
I never felt that thrill and pride while playing HR. It was straight away suicide here in the boss fight. I miss the carefully planned traps. Reappearance of Maggie Chow if you didn't kill her. 3 chances to kill Anne Navara. Killswitching Gunther, or wait, just Flee!
Saving Malik was quite satisfying though. (Paul and Jock scenario maybe?)
And one more thing. I need my SPY DRONES back!!!
Deus ex Human Revolution is a great game by it self. Loved it. Played it thrice. But it isn't nostalgia good.
I hope Mankind Divided has larger outdoor environments. That was my only complaint about HR because the first Deus Ex had huge environments. I love this game though.
Been playing this game and I absolutely love it, it amazes me it was made in the city I live in
It's interesting how different your opinions are compared to Ross Scott's. At times they are straight up opposites. I know this video is pretty old, so it's unlikely you'd still be reading the comments, but I do recommend checking out his Game Dungeon videos on the Deus Ex series. Even if he disagrees with you at times, I think you'd get a kick out of it. That goes for anyone reading this comment. Watch his stuff (he did Freeman's Mind if that's more familiar).
I've bought a FX CPU for my new pc, and Mankind Divided came with it.
Because of LDLC.com, i have to wait to 5 january to get it.
I can't wait so i'll play Deus Ex Human Revolution.
I bought this because of your review
+Startacker I think square enix owes philip a lot of money in sales he's driven for them
6:00
I don't necessarily think that automatically means it's better though. In Deus Ex, sure, but in general? Not in my opinion. I feel like in most cases, the games feel half-assed whenever they take this approach. I'm not talking about Deus Ex because I haven't really played it that much. But games like Skyrim and Far Cry just feel so... bland.
I am one of those who thinks Skyrim is one of the most overrated games ever. How can a game where fighting is such a big part of the game, have such bland and just beyond awful combat "system". I don't know how diverse people consider Skyrim, but they seem to have tried to let you approach quests in your own way a bit (stealth or full force).
Anyway, I personally like it more when it's like Half-Life 1 & 2, fully planned ahead, lets the developers know exactly what the player will have in their inventory and so on.
Another thing I don't like usually is leveling systems, that way you can get way too overpowered, or you may be too underpowered, which just leaves me in a constant uncertainty whether I am at an appropriate level or not.
Way to butcher leveling completely and just make it pointless... Skyrim... What is the point of leveling if enemies are just going to scale to your leveling.
I've been playing Dark Souls 1 now for a while, and I've run into a problem. I am incredibly overpowered I feel like, which makes areas ridiculously easy, on my first playthrough. You know, the game that people brag is incredibly hard, now ruined, because apparently I "grinded" too much... even though I never really grinded...
So yeah, the little bit of Deus Ex HR I played was ruined for me because of XP, and the inventory system makes me claustrophobic lol.
Punk: *gets arrested by police man*
also Punk: *defends police man against Jensen with his LIFE!*
Thank you philip was thinking about buying it
This game is and will always be a modern masterpiece!
you should make a Japanese version of this video (subtitles) for the developers of this game, for it has touched my heart as a gamer. I discovered this game at a RedBox, (vending machine in America to rent movies/games) i then returned it late and paid a fine, because I couldn't put the game down
One of my favorites as well. Great review.
It was a stealth rpg masterpiece, except for the boss fights, but, I mean, there's even someone wearing a 4chan hat
Great vid. This game is superb, and it's the only game whose soundtrack I have purchased.
Anyone else here played the original and thought it a chore at times, but in retrospect, think that they're a better gamer for it?
I frickin love this game. It's pretty underrated unfortunately.
2kliksphilip is love and he is life can you reply
just picked it up for 3 bucks on a steam sale, really solid deal.
Beat it recently one of the best games ever made
We dont talk about deus ex 3.5, I will always remember the fall.
5 year old vid but we must know. what ending did you originally choose? if I had to guess it would be the “alternative” option
Awesome review. :)
Honestly the best game i have ever played
There's a CS:GO custom made map that reminded me Deux Ex, search for de_fracture, it was removed from the workshop, but it's available at gamebanana.
Coming back to this after playing most of it myself. As someone grown up on tf2 and bioshock, I agree with everything you say, but can't help but be distracted by the clunky core gameplay. I guess it looks cool when you roll from cover to cover, but why not instead remove the oppressive cover system and give the player a combat roll to use freely? I also hate how augs break up the gameplay into cutscenes, some which you have to see over and over, like the icarus one. Was first person animation too hard?
Movement overall feels terrible, like how you fall down so abruptly after jumping, and how you have to stand up from crouch first to then sprint. Many of these 'issues' can be nullified by getting implants, like jump height and sprint distance, but to me, manually unlocking things that should be definitive parts of the fps toolkit is not fun progression.
The guns feel like they have no impact, and if an enemy thinks he is standing behind cover you literally cant hit him, even if he's clearly visible.
On the hardest mode, if someone remotely close to you fires a shotgun blast in any direction, you just die instantly, no matter what.
All that said I still get the adrenaline pumping when the soundrack kicks in and I'm invisible in the midst of 20 guards, there is something about this game that just makes you feel like you outsmarted someone, and I guess thats why I'll finish it. That and of course the pretty well written story
I'll be 27 in 2027. Cool huh?
I will be 27 or 28, depending on which half of the year it is.
+S. Tregeagle actually yeah, me too. Still cool.
yeah
I will be around 25-26
Still cool
Would you hate me if I said I own every Deus Ex game, and have yet to play any of them?
***** The fact that you own every title in the franchise grants you bonus points from me. Of course, seize any opportunity to play them.
I actually did start a playthrough of the original just after watching this; I have about 2 hours logged now. It's different than what I was expecting, although now I'm unsure what it was I expected anyway.
*****
That's a start. Your impressions?
I can't say I dislike it. Though I am having... teething issues. I can't quite figure our how the game wants me to play it. The stealth is especially confusing. Metal Gear and Tom Clancy games are my vice, so I believe I might be taking the stealth too hardcore.
*****
Yes, the stealth was buggy. Thinking of the tranquilizer crossbow? You'll risk alerting every guard in the level.
Got this game in a humble bundle and played it for a week ^_^
Recently picked up 3 and 4. I've played the beginning of HR but I still need to adjust from being a hardened run and gun, FPS fanboy into being Adam Jensen.
P.S
Can anyone tell me why he has in-built shades. Seems useful but he wears them everywhere.
guys whats the song name in 5:19? i loved the voice
you should be super hyped for dwarf fortress in 2063
Bought it on the release, and i have only 3hrs of in-game time spend on it, i guess i have to really give this game the time it deserves...and correct my mistake
Despite being released in 2011
Deus Ex HR
Is the most “late 2000s” game.
The music, the graphics, the engine all of it reminds me of parts from Tomb Raider Legend, Gears of War, Assassins Creed 2, Resistance, Crisis
All that shit
I loved human revolution, and thought it was the successor deus ex deserved (unlike invisible war, let's just pretend that didn't happen) but I still vastly prefer the original. Just personal preference though and the original does have many faults, it can't be denied. I just missed a lot of the depth from the original - the lack of quest markers making you not only find information, but also take it in and piece things together yourself. The 12 augmentations that you actually activated manually (albeit some of them were pretty boring). The safe falling augmentation that also let you run like the wind, and didn't play a cutscene every single time you fell off something tall... But most of all the damage system. Playing on realistic and being well aware that a stray bullet to the face would end me instantly, or getting both my legs broken and having to crawl to safety.. You really had to actually think about every fight before you got into it, granted the enemy ai was very poor.
Something about the original really felt like YOU were in control of the game and had to do things yourself, it was much more immersive, and I missed that a lot in HR.
But, I did still absolutely adore Human Revolution and had a stupid grin on my face for pretty much the entire duration of the game. Except from the bosses. And the ending.
you can kill the final boss before the hyron project very quickly with the grenade launcher. The boss took me less than 1 minute lol
the only 2 bad things about human revolution is the fact that ammo uses inventory space and the boss fights
I got into Deus Ex because of Invisible War so I don't consider it a failure.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution is the best game i ever played.
Are you done with the going low series?
I mean.. Did it end where, it did?
Still on my pc and havent played it but i will asap :)
IKTF
I Know The Feeling.
I asked for Mankind Divided.
having played the original deus ex 2 weeks ago, i just played and finished human revolution last week. and honestly, i didnt enjoy it nearly as much as the original or mankind divided. the thing that struck me immediately was how incredibly frail you are, one enemy can concievably kill you in under a second if they get the drop on you or you miss a few shots. i played the original deus ex pretty gung ho, but it felt like i was very much forced to play stealthily. the problem with playing stealthily is that if you poke out of cover you are aiming at nothing and get spotted instantly, and if you wait for the enemy to come close for a takedown, the range is so pitifully small that you basically have to mash the takedown button to get it before they round the corner and spot you. and when they do spot you, every enemy on the planet is immediately hostile and knows exactly where you are.
problems with the combat and stealth aside, i found the exploration of its levels far less enjoyable that the originals for a number of reasons. the foremost reason is definitely the sprint mechanics. they add nothing, pressing the shift key every 5 seconds just to move at half the speed of the original deus ex isnt gameplay, it's tedium. the other big issue is that side missions are almost exclusively obtained while doing the main story, and nowhere else, and the actual content of these side missions just isnt there until you have actually accepted the mission from the designated start point somewhere in the main story progression, so exploring the levels just leads to a bunch of empty rooms.
another big issue i have is with the dialogue choices. the casie aug just makes these sections play themselves. when i dont have to give a shit what they are talking about, and just watch how many times each of the circles glows, i stop caring about anything thats going on, and it's a serious disconnect for me. also, with the casie aug and the ability to 100% get the best outcome every time from every dialogue, the game just feels way to easy. you just get let into anything with virtually 0 consequences.
also, the dlc mission that gets integrated into the story with the directors cut version was actually painful to play. the security scan booths were the most obvious loading screen maskers i've ever seen, and they took like 10 times longer than just a loading screen would have taken. and you need to cross them a minimum of like 6 times. the chick that pulls you to the side in the prision thing has absolutely no payoff, just one minute she's there, the next, she isnt. she's labeled as having been "transfered to a different facility", and you never see her again. mankind divided did basically the same setup but way better, with the choice of who's passport to validate, and whoever you dont choose, you see later in golem city.
but i think the biggest issue by far i have with HR is the lack of agency in the narative, and i think the single best example of this is the first cutscene with zhao(?, the woman after the fight in the room with all the dudes with no skin). it's the most obvious double cross attempt i've ever seen, and you are powerless to do anything about it. at no point did i feel like anything i did had any relevance to the narrative as a whole. and on the subject of narrative, the way the ending choice is presented is just ridiculous. it feels so gamey in a moment that should elevate it above that, and it really suffers because of it in my eyes.
i know i've done nothing but shit on it for like 5 paragraphs, but i did enjoy HR, but it feels like it truely pales in comparison to both the original and mankind divided
tldr; you die too fast, the guard hivemind knows where you are instantly, exploring feels unsatisfying, dialogue feels like a formality bc casie aug, the dlc mission plays bad and feels out of place, and it felt like i had no agency in the story or the ability to enjoy side stories at my own pace
jfc that was longer than i thought lmao sorry
Skill issue
I really hope Mankind Divided will be as good. Graphically it definitely would be, but considering the trailers I've seen so far... The story doesn't seem that good. Also I hope they will release multiplayer this time, this will attract even more players from a different audience to the game.
You didn't talk about the endings, weird. I found them disappointing to be honest. Not the endings themselves but the way they were executed and shown. The old Deus Ex showed you the aftermath (to its best ability) of your choices. This one just takes you into a long monologue in Adam's mind with scenery that doesn't really show you what happens in the world after your choice.
With that said, I'll play any Deus Ex as long as they keep them coming and keep them interesting. Just living in those cyberpunk worlds alone is enough reason. There aren't nearly enough cyberpunk games that are as immersive. That is until Cyberpunk 2077 comes out, but we're still a long way from that game being released.
+tiredofmakingupnames Tbh whatever choice you made in dxhr the world is fucked anyway, because its a prequel to dx1 :P
nostalgic? only a few years m8
Still feels old as today's standards, where AAA titles now are mostly graphics and just mediocre storyline. Deus ex HR is just something so special.
Look up the meaning of nostalgia..
The first one was better, but this one is good too!
This game was really good not great but good comeback
I have big doubts about Deus Ex 4 it feels too much like run and gun
they improved the combat but it's not a run and gun game.
This is my favorite game right next to Fallout 3...
i played through HR about 8 times every time i got a different outcome
6:38 Does anyone know the song name , if it's from Deus Ex HR or just something philip found on the internet ? I like her voice ;-; uuuuuuuuh
