As a client that went to one of these flash days, the cheaper cost didn't come into it for me. I participated because I wanted to be part of this part of tattoo culture- waiting was fun, I met lots of people and heard lots of stories while waiting, I chose a piece of flash and got it done. A good compromise that happens now is shops will sell flash that's more expensive than the $13+$7 so they can earn money (and keep the crowd down a little) but still participate in the day
The Friday the 13th tattoo specials are a great option for your first tattoo. This lets you see if you can handle the pain of getting a tattoo without risking a lot of money. I have three such tattoos and recently got a larger color tattoo that I paid much more for. The Friday the 13th tattoo specials got me started with getting tattoos.
That’s how I’m trying to “ease” into it. I’m planning on getting a decent size tattoo on my fore arm within the next year or so, and this coming March 13 is gonna be Friday the 13th so I’m gonna go see if I can get one of these special priced ones

I love Friday the 13th specials. March would've been my 3rd one, but they canceled due to the staff being tired and recently returning from conventions. Something the shop i go do does is donate a large portion of the fund to a baby who's home is the hospital. As for the waiting, it is a lot. I've waited for 4 hours, but worth it. You can write down your phone number and they'll call you on the 15 and 5 minute mark. So you can leave and come back later. I wouldn't know if the quality, both of mine from previous times are beautifully detailed, but it probably had to do with showing up EARLY- like, waiting 30 minutes outside before they open
A new local shop that I go to runs specials like this. On Friday the 13th they have a board and a book just of Friday the 13th flash. They are trying to build up their new business so this is a great way to do it and they are excellent artists. They run these at something like $30 or $40 a tattoo. The main reason I haven't gotten one is that it they really don't go with the other tattoos I'm getting. I designated my left leg, anything goes leg, without any theme other than American Traditional designs--so who knows I might just get one of these one day just for the fun of it.
As a Vet some places do pretty nice sized tattoos for free on veterans day. I got a little under palm sized shark it was pretty cool and me and the artist have a pretty good connection and he wants to expand on my partial sleeve he said its his kind of art. Cool guy

James Withee I am going to my consultation this Friday for my very first tattoo... It's going to be a portrait of Marilyn Monroe, I'm getting it on the top of my thigh. I know it's a bit large for a first one, but honestly I want what I want and the legs have more space for a design like that. Plus, I want to be able to look at it 24/7.
another thing that could affect the quality of the piece is the competition between the artist's , that you mentioned...quantity over quality or something like that maybe ... love the tattoo's that i saw in the intro =)

Normally to save time I just draw my own tattoos and bring them in lol. I've got photoshop and I've more than likely thought out what I wanted (because sometimes I choose from a flash page or tell the artist some of my interests and let them decide for me). Great video!

Went to a shop for that special, and the tattoo artist told me even though it was a 13 dollar tattoo with 7 dollar tip he told me he was going to charge me 40 with a 20 dollar tip. Nobody else in the shop was doing that but him. I grabbed my purse and left even after that long wait
Another con for artist is the amount of needles, ink, & set up, used for however many 20$ tattoos versus 1 tattoo at regular price and using however many needles and everything else
You can order needles a box of 50 assorted, 3rl, 5rl, 7rl, 9rl, 5m, 7m, 9m, 11m2. For like 10 dollars, so to pull out 3 fresh tubes and 3 needles per tat. The cost is so cheap. All these tattoo Artisit are glorified legends in thier own minds. You over paying for your ink.
Washington lowest i ever seen was 50 min on black only tat at a mall lmao only went in cause was shocked to see someone walk out a store with fresh ink
James I want to see a video on what type of obligations a tattoo artist has after a deal is struck/agreed on as far as holding up there side of the deal so deposit is paid appointments are kept and artist has started with first needle poke? Should it come out the same?should it be as black as promised? Should it not be hazzy? Should their lines be clean? Spaces be even? No mistakes in the tattoo ECT.... All things leading up to the quality of what was talked about and them not milking the clock for biting off more then they can chew/ or past they're skill level? And what if it's not Turing out how the tattoo should? At what point should you say look it's not Turing out? Should you let the artist keep running with it trying to make it better? And why should the client pay for more if the artist can't deliver what was agreed or promised? Why should a client be at mercy for a artist to run up a clock because they don't have the skill set they say they do? At what point should you back out? Ask for a refund? Let the artist know your not happy? Not have to pay more for no delivery? And shouldn't the artist be confident in the hours quoted? Or price quoted? The client isn't the professional here what steps should they take after the job is started?

As far as traditional tattoos.. they have a lot of advantages. Check out his video titled: "Black and Grey Versus Color Tattoos". Jeni - Depends... there's a video on this channel about that, conveniently. Titled: "Do Tattoos Need to Have Meaning?" Definitely pros and cons to both sides. (Mainly the extremes of both sides). I fall more towards it being better if the tattoo doesn't focus too heavily on meaning. More risk of regretting it at a later point in life. Ironically.

In Sweden a lot of shops have Friday 13th Drop In with only 13th tattoos, I have a couple myself. I dont know anyone that got a Friday 13 tattoo to save money. Maybe it is like the US, I dont know. Look homie there is a lot of tattoo artists that will give a discount price to their client if that client is either a regular client of theirs or a close personal firend or love one of that artist not everybody is like you out there about the money and trying to make a name for himself
I found the channel about three months ago. Love the no nonsense in the videos. And that he keeps the facts straight and still says his opinion on the subject he covers. Wish I could get a tattoo from him,but I am in Germany and unfortunately am not traveling to the states anytime soon.
