this is probably the best review of this game I've seen. Everyone seems to love bashing it. It's obviously not the best game, and it has its flaws, but as a single player experience, it was pretty good.
I actually kinda enjoyed this game. It reminds me of a civil war game, but everyone is wearing van helsing clothes and shoot each other with lethal paintball guns. there is even a gun where you can shoot out railroad spikes and PIN PEOPLE TO WALLS!
The best thing about Damnation is it's camera. No over the shoulder bullshit, it's constantly stays right in the center of the screen and even allows to aim ABOVE THE HEAD, which is also significantly more comfortable that what modern devs enforcing in every single recent TPS. I hope one day this camera system will became a new standard in all third person games out there, stupid over the shoulder view have to go.
It's rough around the edges, but it's definitely a decent gaming experience. I liked the verticality of the levels. Definitely worth a try. Good review Mark.
This game looks very fun. I think im gonna buy it tomorrow because i know where to find it cheap. I love games with huge game worlds. I like the feeling of standing on a mountain or something similar and look down on places i used to be before.
I don’t care what anyone says I loved this game when I was a kid, this and haze were gifts from those uncles that knew I was into games but know nothing about them.
Damnation started as a total conversion mod for Unreal Tournament 2004. And it's really cool, although a bit short. In the mod, you can use spirit vision to take over the bodies of enemies and make them kill other bad guys or commit suicide.
Not really into the whole space cowboys thing. But the important thing is you are a guy with a gun shooting people. And I saw a dude's head get blown off in this video. So yeah I will check it out. When it is cheaper or maybe it will make a good rent. Very awesome review Mark.
This game looks pretty damn fun actually. Also it's interesting seeing how much more subdued Mark is in this video from 2009 compared to how he talks/acts in his current videos. lol His new videos are practically over the top compared to this.
I have a question about the local co-op: Are you able to play throughout the entire story campaign with a local co-op player or is it only select levels?
i love the game it is one from my favorite games from 2008-2009 my favorite games are DAMNATION,GTA 4,CALL OF DUTY 4-5 now i whil buy a ps3 and play the DAMNATION and GTA 4 i like the game very much :)
Just got it on PC and it looks better then the PS3 version for sure, it plays a lot like Viking from 2008 , it's assassins creed meets gears of war, what let's it down is its lack of an Auto Aim Orion or a cover system.
I have this game now its really good, I knew it, problems are mostly the dumb IA and bad textures, other than that this game has great weapons, and the gunfights and platforming get really fun after a while.
WTF! Mark you passed up a MGS4 & Metal Slug 7 review for this common Mark that's cruel especially since i've been waiting for days but awesome review and will you also review inFAMOUS for PS3
this game actually started out and has it's roots in being a mod for Unreal Tournament 2K4 the mod can still be downloaded through ModDB and Desura ,and while gameplay wise it's not polished for something that was essentially made by a small handfull of people without the aid of some professional toolsets and a "next gen" game engine It's actually pretty impressive. Sadly the game itself is polarizing ether ay love it or you'll want to pass it up in favor of something else.
i never got this game back in the day, because so many people said it was really bad, the worse game they ever played.,waste of money! ... So what was bad about it? because from the gameplay preview, it sure looks like something id play and enjoy. lol was it because they were expecting hd graphics? COD stuff?, laggy, bugs? too hard?
Newegg has it for PC for $9.99 with free shipping right now. And trust me, it's one of those best played on the PC. The console controls are horrible and makes the gameplay suffer but with better, more accurate control the game is quite fun.
plus at the same time i'm trying to go back through darksiders bc i got to a point where there was an autosave and well i wasn't smart when i manually saved the game bc i did it right before the last boss and i was getting low on souls and the autosave put me in an area where i got nothing to heal with or refill my wrath with and the door behind me is shut tight and i have to defeat a lot of enemies and i keep dying plus i'm also playing bulletstorm when i feel like it.
2009 is the year of western themed video games. Damnation comes over like a third person shooter platformer. The character moves around like Lara Croft or Altair, but in a kinda sucky way.
I saw on Qore (however it's called) that the Devs. were saying this was gonna be a classic and was gonna revolutionize the gaming industry but it didn't lived up to the hyped, though it had a nice concept.
ai is stupid yes, voice acting is horrible(but bearable), but the gameplay is really good and i really liked this game. i would like to see a Shellshock 2 review on classic game room, cause i really liked it too, i mean it's really fun going around and shooting zombies in their face, now who doesn't like that :)
@vepps99 Badass dude...I play tetris every single day on my phone when i get bored in my college classes, but I have more fun playing Asteroids..That was my childhood game....
@slevi123 crytek, the company that bought free radical who made the timesplitters series, announced a few days ago that they are waiting for the release of crysis 2 before deciding if they want to make timesplitters 4
I didn't play this game but it looks pretty cool, regardless of the sucking graphics, you can shoot, use instinct(from twilight princess xd), ride motorbikes, climb up structures and there's steampunk, yeah!
ya know I was still very curious with this game even after seeing all the negative reviews, graphics aren't exactly next gen....but it's still a fun game for 17bucks used. Waited for the price drop so I wasn't getting ripped to bad, but I really dig it
I've got this on 360, it reminds me of Wild Wild West for some reason, minus Will Smith. But it sort of plays between Gears of War and Prince of Persia,
lol, why are you so mad. I have a PS3 and its currently my favourite out of the three current gen consoles. I say limitations because of the scale of this title. When you focus on one part of the game (the scale in this case), you have to cut corners in other places. Since this is a multiplat title, I seriously doubt they'll use blu-ray to its fullest potential. Next time, don't jump to ASSumptions.
@marrotun First of all, it's my opinion, and I'm big on Steampunk, so it's worth checking out for me. Secondly, the worst next gen game you're looking for is Eragon on the 360 =P
It's an OK Game and looks a lot better on PC, especially of u wanna p,as it now and not have your eyes assaulted by bad PS3 graphics, but the game plays like Assassins creed meets gears of war (the shooting is like gears of war) what would have made this a better game is Auto Aim or a Cover system . The steampunk elements are cool. I give it a 6/10 missed potential.
The gameplay was kind of fun. Actually thought the level design was excellent and the platforming worked more or less as intended. But yeah, everything else about it was so needlessly sloppy. Like it could have used another year in development.
to be honest I really enjoyed the fuck out of this game in single player. To be fair I as laid up at home recovering from a NASTY concussion and couldnt really do much so I played this games campaign for nearly 2 weeks straight. I loved it although as I mentioned it might have been the head trauma
It's worth it, I just finished it. Don't listen to the nay sayers about this game. It's pretty good when you get into the story. Gameplay isn't nearly as bad as people say. I think the ones who knock it are parroting other people and not making up their own mind.
I bought it for only $7 from Gamefly and the game isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be. The problem is that most people are followers and believe what most other people say even though most of these people haven't even played the game. I am not one of these types of people as I never "judge a book by it's cover" as I give most games a fair chance.
it's like timeshift y'know in the past but future, but it's western? this game is fun as going to the playground when your a kid. this game is like having an imaginary buddy to play with in western genre =D
I remember playing a modification for UT2004 that was also set in a steampunk universe and also called Damnation. I suppose it's like Red Orchestra or Killing Floor then, except that damnation sucks especially when it's not free...
I used to own the game and the one thing that will drive you insane is hearing the loud speaker spew the same thing over and over and over and over again while your trying to figure out where to go next.
design choices in a video game has a lot of influence on whether the game is good/bad. if the graphics, sound, gameplay mechanics, and variety are all good, and all the good aspects don't click together, then it is ultimately, a bad game. good design makes a final game better than the sum of its parts.
this game was worth 3$ and i fell in love with it, wish it had a sequel with improved gameplay cause the concept was great
I miss original ideas. Now everything seems to be a damn sequel.
I like the way this guy always looks for the best in the games he reviews, other critics crucified this game.
This channel still my cup of tea!
Same
When I first saw the cover I thought it was a squeal to Darkwatch
Me too
also
i love how this guy sees the good things in a video game! that's why i think he is the best reviewer on youtube! keep it up man!
4:17 lol
The legend has been around the corner for quite some time.

I farted
Ordered this right now together with Blood Drive, Bodycount,, Catherine and Asura's Wrath. Hell Yeah!
Great review. btw.
im sure you have regretted purchasing this garbage
@@honoraryreich1407 lmao was gonna say the same
Oh-not-the-bees just platinumed the game. So grateful it’s over with
I actually kinda enjoyed this game. It reminds me of a civil war game, but everyone is wearing van helsing clothes and shoot each other with lethal paintball guns. there is even a gun where you can shoot out railroad spikes and PIN PEOPLE TO WALLS!
Whisper it slowly and it sounds like a new male fragrance.

I just dusted off my copy to play it again after two years!

I felt the same way. They had robot horses on the 1980s cartoon Bravestarr. I used to watch that seldomly as well when I was a kid.
good review.. nobody couldn't have done it better then u.. thx..
There really were steam powered motorcycles.
Steam punk steam is powerful stuff you can run a 100ton locomotive and beyond
i love the openings for this guy's reviews so f-ing awesome

Haha, that last bit of dialogue, out of context, sounded hilarious.
i think i'll have to see if i can pick myself up a copy.
I bought this game just because of this review
I have a question about the local co-op: Are you able to play throughout the entire story campaign with a local co-op player or is it only select levels?
I wish I knew! I came here trying to find the same answer!
This was fun af when playing split screen
i love the game it is one from my favorite games from 2008-2009 my favorite games are DAMNATION,GTA 4,CALL OF DUTY 4-5 now i whil buy a ps3 and play the DAMNATION and GTA 4 i like the game very much :)
Yes, Galaxy Rangers was AWESOME! The DVD set is nice. You should get it!

I played the game before watching this, I thought it was pretty decent :s
I've been thinking of borrowing it from my cousin - it looks awesome (8 . Thanks for the advice!
If you can imagine Gears without it's covering system, then you've got this game.
Oh cool. I'll have to check it out. Thanks.
Why is everything so blurry? Is it due to the limitations of the console or an artistic design on the part of the devs?
this game actually started out and has it's roots in being a mod for Unreal Tournament 2K4 the mod can still be downloaded through ModDB and Desura ,and while gameplay wise it's not polished for something that was essentially made by a small handfull of people without the aid of some professional toolsets and a "next gen" game engine It's actually pretty impressive.

I saw this game at GameStop and am trying to decide whether I want it or not. I love steampunk but I still dunno... Do I want this?
This is my all time favorite "bad game". Lol
Same lol
wow. thats an interesting idea. most people wouldnt think of it that way. The make a decision of one or the other. thank you for your insight

I've only just heard about it because it was put as related to the 2004 Van Helsing game
Every1 hating this game.Well i have finished it.and i fucking loved it.The A.I...well yeah.but still a great game.way too under rated.
Is he talking about Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs?
no guts no glory
"no guts no glory, no pain no gain!" they should make a videogame of the Galaxy Rangers. I wanna play as Gooseman! B-)
Yeah, same. I have never met another person who liked that game :D
lol the voice acting reminds me of Fallout 3.
I'll begin running away from the flying stones now.
Unlike its sister genre Cyberpunk, Steampunk has yet to receive mainstream recognition. This game isn't doing the genre any favors.
from the review it seems kinda like Uncharted. I suggest that as that is my favorite game for the PS3. its dam awesome!

the game reminded me of WILD WILD WEST where its also the past but somehow technology is futuristic
Even though the game is quite...bad, i can remember having so much fun with it, mainly because of its Co-op
More video games need to be nonsensical and absurd; instead of all the cookie cutter games we get.

Looks kind of good
lol Mark was so calm back then
I've seen this advertised on steam lately... was wondering what it was about.
Keep up the great work.Thanks!
its not done processing yet gooooood god
i love how 2 seconds of driving and a wreck happens

Wow now i must buy this game
unless their so pixely its to dark to see the grenade you just stepped on...that happend to me once
I probably will get it, I don't care what others think.
It looks to lack some quality that others offer but if it can offer stupid fun. Then it can offer stupid fun!
@SoftAsABaboonAss You're probably thinking of Darkwatch, and if it is then there weren't Werewolves but Vampires instead.
is it the reviewer's TV settings or are the colours supposed to look a bit faded, bland even?
I can't wait to try this - being a masochist and all ... I love pain!
