Great film Curtis. Egyptian culture is so fascinating. It is a shame that Europeans believed that they had the right to take another country's history and culture. I believe these treasures should be returned to their countries of origin. 🙂🇨🇦
I love how physical you are with the artifacts. You raise your entire arm up, so we don't miss anything. You sweep your hand along a wall, so we see the breadth of what the Egyptians were telling us. With you as a guide and interpreter, these are not boring images in a museum, but people who lived and who have their own stories to share across time.
Great video Curtis. I am so glad we have these artifacts so we can learn and appreciate past cultures. Thankyou for your insights you are so knowledgeable and make these videos fascinating.
What a grand surprise on a dull Tuesday! I really appreciate how you read along with the hieroglyphics, it makes Egyptian a language of sound, not just pictures. I am also wondering if Philipo is not only an opera singer but a cinematographer as well? Thank you so much for all the work you have put into this production
What a Journey through the artifacts in Berlin!!... This full length video is pure amazement!! The close ups, enough to see the fine details, together with the in- depth explanations of the background and context of each piece are priceless to me Curtis🌟🌹🙏🏼 I adore the way you approach and visit each and every piece here... It's like a wonderful museum visit with a wonderful friend💖🌟🌹🙏🏼 Thank you so much for all your work
I knew a lot of art work was taken in WW2 by he who won't be named but i never knew a lot of priceless art from ancient Egypt was even in Berlin, never mind destroyed forever! I really love your documentaries Curtis, your knowledge is amense!! Also your such a lovely person, you, your hubby and little Amelia. Hope you guys have a lovely weekend. Ciao xx
You are a gifted educator and this doc is so professionally done in every way. Just fantastic Curtis and I learned so much. Thank you for all the work and love you put into this video.
Nice documentary, yet painful to us as Egyptians. Our Egyptian antiquities are in exile, unfortunately. Although they are excellent ambassadors for the power and beauty of Egypt's ancient culture. However, as an Egyptian, it is extremely painful to see all these priceless atrifacts outside their original homeland. I hope that one day the governments will listen to us and help in repatriating them to Egypt, including all the obelisks currently scattered around the world.
Thank you , Curtis , this is one of the best documentaries on Egyptian culture. This is a phrase from the Silver Pharaoh ;"It is life in quest of life in bodies that fear the grave There are no graves here These mountains and plains are a cradle and a stepping-stone".
My childhood fascination with Egyptology has been revived! This was such an interesting documentary as your enthusiasm comes through in your voice and the way you tell the history, stories and way of life.
Despite the title suggesting that every single object in the Neues Museum was stolen, which is simply not true, I really enjoyed this documentary. And I was very pleased that you showed one of my absolute favourite pieces, the princess with cat ( 00:30:01 ). I absolutely agree with you, I would save Tiye too. I personally find her even more beautiful and impressively crafted than the Nefertiti bust, unfortunately it tends to be passed over by many. I really liked the way you structured the documentary, roughly along the history of Egypt with a jump back to Akhenaten and Nefertiti. Very dramatic transition by the way with the question if Nefertiti will ever be returned and the sign "Respect World Heritage", very good filmmaking & storytelling.
Hey Curtis, only just had the chance to catch up with this. As always it is a tour de force of Egyptology. I really like the fact you don't dumb things down, but at the same time there is something for everyone in your documentaries. I don't want to get into a conversation about the Nefertiti bust (I am well aware of it's history/provenance). It's a fruitless conversation. Anyway, thanks for another amazing documentary that you obviously put a lot of work into. I watched this in England on a Saturday night at 11pm and it made me very happy....thanks again.
Amazing video Curtis love these treasures and cultures of Egypt. Thank you for your knowledge and insight of Egypt love your documentaries, hope you’re going back to Egypt for more documentaries 🫶🏼❤️
I have to think if these treasures were not revered and moved to museums such as this around the world, would they still exist today? Egypt has faced many centuries of war and upheaval so who’s to say if they had remained there if they would still exist. It’s wonderful that they are in a place where all people can see , study and appreciate them.
I really liked your review of the museum and out of the box analysis I appreciate your efforts and appreciate your videos about ancient Egypt and I can't wait to visit Egypt this November I wish you all the best !
Hi Curtis, I just want to tell you, thank you for your work. when I watch your first videos, I have to confess that I thought you were some kind of guy looking for "likes" and somewhat more interested in yourself than in ancient Egypt, I'm ashamed of myself, I can see that you are a superb professional and that you love what you do, Big THANKS to you Curtis, you have an unconditional fan on me, also I agree with you me to if the museum was on fire, I will save queen ty bust. I work with wood and I make all kind of egyptian sculpture (wooden cosmetics spoons are my specialty, but also, I made several copies of Tutankhamun boats and now I'm working in a Hatshepsut's Punt expedition ship) I to love ancient Egypt civilization... thank you Curtis you are the best
That was a really interesting video tour. What a great museum. I have a question...at 2:30, you show a photo of a huge bust of Tutankhamen on its side. I've never seen that. And I've had a healthy interest in Egyptology. Is that on display there? Do you have any idea where and when that was found?
I think every conquering culture in history has taken precious objects home from the areas they dominated including the ancient Egyptians who once dominated the Levant.I'm reminded of that Elamite inscription which is featured in the movie "The emperor's club" where a victorious Elamite king describes how he defeated the neighbors and brought back the stele of Naram Sin to Elam(southwest Iran)
I watched this video many times; The quality of the 💎💎💎💎egyptian pieces exhibited in Turin, Florence and Berlin exceeds everything! Impress! The abandoned and poor Cairo Museum is greatly diminished in the face of the aforementioned exhibitions. It is better to experience Egypt in Europe than in Cairo. The quality of the Berlin museum is immense!
Your love of this wondrous time in ancient Egypt just pulls me along, enrapt at every word you speak. Another awe-inspiring documentary, Curtis. Thank you!
Wow, I should have saved to watch this at the end of the night. I watched it first, and now nothing else will top it. ❤❤👍👍 Beautiful video! Great narration! And the Neues is a great place, ...even if it's full of ill-gotten stuff. At least they are on display for people to see, not some private collection. Silver lining? 😉 Great video! You keep raising the bar with your documentaries!
Berlin also has that amazing Altar of Pergamum which is Greek Hellenistic and was taken to Germany from the Ottoman Turkish empire with which Germany was friends at the time.Turks were not particularly interested then in Greek things so they let Germans (and English) take whatever they wanted and this earlier is what happened to the Elgin marbles of the Parthenon. All this stuff would have probably perished if Europeans had not been interested in it-after all interest in ancient cultures came largely from European academia and not from the lands themselves where these things were located. Now things are different!!!!
If I would have been in the museum when you were there, I would have followed you around it like a puppy! To listen to all you have said!!!! 😉 But seriously now, there are so many emotions in Berlin, the sense of loss, death and rebirth!!! Thank you so much, Ryan and Filippo!🥰
Curtis your knowledge of Egyptology is amazing. Thank you for this amazing documentary from The Neues Museum in Berlin. Ps, i love your new haircut. ❤️
Watched this because I thought you were going to follow the "stolen objects" path, but was really so surprised and delighted to hear the full history of the pharohs and their objects. So educational and I loved it! Thank you!
You know they were trying to get items returned but the gov fell and the museums and store rooms were broken into proving they cant secure the items so its now likely they wont be returned because you can never tell when the gov will fail again. They are safer outside the country
We have visited the Pergaman Museum and British Museum and always lament at the fact treasures were stolen. We noted the bullets holes and knew it had been attacked in Berlin. I know they realigned their museums after we left in 2000.
"Stolen treasure" is a delicate matter. I fully understand back in the day that Western countries tried to save an loot ancient art. Many treasure has been destroyed in past decades by the Egyptians themselves. But... Egypt really did their history immense proud these last years by investing A LOT of money into saving their treasure and building new museums. Some things should be returned to Egypt as some kind of acknowledgement of their effort. But these treasures also act as some kind of "ambassador" for Egypt.
@@CurtisRyanWoodside king Farouk and Egyptian cabinet always asked hitler to return the Nefertiti bust but he refused because he felt charmed by her, I wonder why he would do that! The nazi’s hidden all the stolen artifacts that was collected from all over Europe in the salt mine in North of Germany
I love watching these documentaries and I even watch them again and again, over time, because each time I learn something I missed before or I just better understand the Egyptian way of life back then. I wish so much I could have a dream where I go back in time and actually live in this ancient Egypt. 😁 I have something nagging at me that I have always wanted to know more about and I wish that someone would spend time making a video about the ancient Egyptian wigs, the wig making, the wig makers. I always wonder what kicked off the idea of wearing a wig that turned into 1,000’s of years of wearing beautiful EGYPTIAN WIGS. I know it had something to do with lice, most likely, but,….I would love to know how they made these fabulous wigs. 😊 Also,…when did the Egyptian women stop bearing their breasts? Just curious 🧐. Curtis,…your videos are SO FABULOUSLY FANTASTIC!!❤❤❤ I have learned more from YOU than in all these 15 years of being ancient Egypt crazy!!!🫨🫨🫨🤗🤗
Stolen Greek and Egyptian artifacts must return to the place of origin.English and Germans took advantage of the hardships in those countries and stole thousands of priceless antiquities.
Well from my understanding ancient artifacts and Arabia don’t go together very well how about if we have them all just destroyed and disappear forever in my opinion anything found in Baghdad Iran Saudi Arabia and Yemen should be taken from that country and put somewhere where it will be preserved Egypt hasn’t had a lot of war and probably should be on that list
Wonderful video because you narrate and fill in the background seamlessly! Since you have looked at a lot of artifacts from Ancient Egypt, have you or will you do a diss on the theory that the ancient Egyptians discovered some megaliths from supposedly an even older civilization from the Younger Dryas time and build their temples around it and claimed to have built it? I have kept my mind open to the possibilities because of the tool marks left on the artifacts but I keep coming back to the idea that if there was an even older civilization that could do all that with more advanced machinery than we have today that there would be more evidence of their civilization left behind. I asked a UA-camr who believes that there was an older civilization that was responsible for all the megaliths why he was inserting in an older civilization theory when there was none to be seen in real life. He did not reply. Can you share your thoughts how the ancient Egyptians were able to carve and move granite around and with what kind of tools and transportation?
Love your documentary I think bust of neferti should be returned back to Egypt I wonder sometimes if things been different if king tut wife would married other prince . Thank you curtis for all hard work you do on documentaries.
Great documentary however that’s the real bust of Nefertiti carbon test it’s been done to the bust but indeed great to inject the doubt to add the mystery to it ..

Fascinating video, you are such a great story teller. Your expertise and your videographer...well just WOW!!
Thank You.. both❤❤❤❤
Thank you!!!! Worked hard on this one Lynda
It's a shame to see the Egypt treasures that were taken in this museum. They should still be in Egypt.
Especially tombs 🙏

Another great documentary Curtis ,keep it up…cheers 👍🏻🇨🇦
Why did the nazis bomb their own capitol? The title was a bit misleading. I was expecting a video about how and what was looted from Egypt.
Your channel is a great discovery
I can't get enough of watching your documentaries
Regards from a Libyan 🇱🇾 and keep going 👍🏻
Wonderful documentary.

Amazing artefacts! Thanks for showing us Curtis and explaining things about them. Fantastic! 🪲
Always a pleasure to share Christine
I learn so much more from your documentaries than any other. I trust you also. Thank you.
Brilliant video so interesting but I do think that the artefacts should be given back to Egypt.
Especially the full tombs!!
Lovely and in-depth tour!
This was a study that is wonderful. Thank you for your eye and knowledge .

Sad this has happened to many different cultures around the world and strange that we go to museums to marvel at stolen goods 🙄
Wow, I should have saved to watch this at the end of the night. I watched it first, and now nothing else will top it. ❤❤👍👍

I enjoy all your Egyptian teachings. Thank you for sharing!
Wonderful documentary as usual
Love watching your videos
Thanks for this

Great video, as always Curtis. And probably your last one with long hair haha soon I’m heading to Berlin to see this museum myself.
Thank you for this documentary, Curtis. 🥰I am speechless. I've learned/seen so much.🥰
It is heartbreaking to imagine how many artifacts were looted, hidden away and possibly on the bottom of the ocean - just waiting to be found. ❤
Thank you doll for another wonderful documentary ❤️ You're absolutely amazing!!!

My greatest wish is for the karnak obelisk to be returned from France to Karnak
Did you go to the Pergamon Museum? It's really worth a visit!
Isn’t the bombing was from the allies? As my knowledge after the lose of battle of Britain, Royal British Air Force bombarded Berlin every day!
No actually the bombing and raiding of the museums in Berlin was by hitler.

😍WOW!! I really appreciate your wealth of knowledge and the tour of this impressive museum!!💖💖
Excellent documentary. This is so professionally done. Bravo! …yeah, I didn’t realize Germany was holding on to so many Egyptian artifacts. Not cool.
thank you Lori!
What about the Egyptian section of the Louvre Museum in Paris, and the same in the Vatican?
3mins into the video I'm already sad, by the destruction of Egyptian artifact's caused by the war.

Love your documentary I think bust of neferti should be returned back to Egypt I wonder sometimes if things been different if king tut wife would married other prince . Thank you curtis for all hard work you do on documentaries.
BBC quality documentary but better as there’s way more content. Thank you!!
I love your videos but have to ask, were any of the pharaohs entombed in the pyramids? I've always heard that's not the case.
I think the Berlin museum must pay some royalty to Egyptian gov for possessing their heritage or atleast return them back to Cairo
I’m into Egypt and mummies thank you for showing me a lot things I’ve not seen before not shown by many archeologists on mainstream history channels.
Vase of neferirkara kakai
Truth is here.
That's my auntie 💓
I thought pharaohs were entombed in the valley of the kings not the pyramids. I wonder what the museums in Egypt have in them?
and the Sistine Chapel is build on top of an ancient pegan church
They should give it back to it's country of origin.
Great documentary however that’s the real bust of Nefertiti carbon test it’s been done to the bust but indeed great to inject the doubt to add the mystery to it ..
Not stolen, loved & preserved for all to see and giving Egypt a lot of money from tourism.
It's kind of messed up that this is in Germany instead of Egypt with it's people
Did I see that fake Nefertiti bust on display like it's real?
Egypt is the rightful owners of these treasurer's and Berlin should return them
I thought there wasn’t supposed to take any king or queens
🕯
All museums, in the World should deliver all the artefakts back to the relevant country!!! 🙏
Was she not in the Dahlem museum ?
