For anyone new watching, just a few painting tips. Get an extension pole for the roller frame, it makes all the difference and makes painting easier. You should paint.too to bottom and maintain a wet edge. This will keep paint from looking patchy. If you don't have time to finish a wall at a corner then don't even begin. Pigments settle in paint and if you go back to an unpainted area next to a painted one the color could look off. Constantly stir paint while painting. Don't roll back over a painted area once covered, the roller cover will start to pull paint off the wall. Finally, painting tools should be of the best quality, they can make a $20.00 can of paint look like a $100.00 can of paint. Look at her before and afters, paint it the most dramatic change that can be made for the least amount of money. Look how much satisfaction she has from doing it herself. Well done!
SOMEONE GET HER A TV SHOW... This is so much better then watching a home and garden channel. I love the raw footage. I painted my entire 2500 sq ft home and it was a ton of work! I can't imagine doing a full reno. I also painted all my bathrooms dark and I loved it. Made the white porcelain pop! Also that pink door was kinda growing on me... But it obv needed to be repaired.... Xoxooxoxooxoxoxo
It would actually be better to bring the door outside in the garden and do all the needed work there... Better access, more fresh air and no dirt in the house.
Also if it’s an old house then it’s quite likely that there is lead paint on many of the surfaces. You need to be really careful not to breathe that stuff in.
I love that you share the downs as well as the ups in your videos. To be honest when I look at diy videos I am intimidated by how perfect everything turns out for these people and when I have a go it's a dogs dinner! That puts me off trying anything new. So thank you for being honest along the way and documenting it for us because it makes the journey more "human" and relatable. You have done incredibly well!
@@HermioneChantal thank you :) You're really inspiring me to try some diys. I'm moving with my boyfriend in about a month, and hopefully I can try something then :)
I have to say I'm impressed by the type and amount of work you are doing yourself. Renovation is not an easy task. It takes getting dirty, scraped, scratched and sore. But the end result can be amazing. Not everyone is able to do all the types of things you do, but I have to say I applaud the efforts you make and the lessons you share. Looking forward to seeing the next steps.
This is great! Future reference: you can rent a commercial grade sander from a hardware store (fairly inexpensive) and make easy work of that door. Also you can use wood filler to patch up any damage, resand with a fine grit, then paint!
You did great boxing in those pipes, and they looked so much better in the black. I also have a black bathroom and love it. I like how you don't wait until every single thing can be completed in a room before making it at least pretty and liveable, I'm the same, as if I waited until I had the time and money to do a whole room at once I'd be waiting years, and in the meantime at least we have somewhere fairly decent to sit and enjoy life a bit more. x
I can't believe you didn't even go to school for this...You're doing full on HGTV House Flips like a pro! 💁 Great job girl! I'm not sure why you don't yet have a TV slot somewhere on a DIY channel, but I'm sure it's definitely in your future if you wanted to go that route! ♡
I love your style and that you are completely renovating this amazing piece of history. I noticed in your Q&A that you said this is your first time really doing something like this. You have picked up a lot of amazing skills and you are doing really well. But I can see some things that while they dont show up on camera well, will be visible in person and may slowly start to bug you. I say this having been in your shoes about 5 years ago doing my first reno. There were things I did not know to do and later on I started noticing them or others did and it just drove me crazy every time I saw them. So please dont take this as a detraction from a lot of the wonderful work you have done. Rather just a way to polish your skills. 1. Take the door off the hinges. I know it seems annoying and like a lot of work now, but you are going to see that door everyday for as long as you own this house. An extra hour or two now is really miniscule in the end. 2. Strip the door. I know you said that it didnt strip well, but there are many different strippers for different paints. Also test for lead in a house this old (tests are $3 at the hardware store and will save you a lot of health issues). Finally even without the tests, get a mask with filters, even when sanding it goes a long way towards protecting you. But you want as much paint off as possible or it will never really look completely smooth with how much the paint has chipped off over the years. 3. I know you lost the woodfiller but its worth the extra trip to get another one, fill it, sand it, fill it, sand it, let it set for a bit and make sure its smooth. Like I said, its extra time now but you literally see this door everyday. Wood filler will hold up better over time and blend/bond better. 4. Gloss paint shows any and every imperfection and rarely goes on smooth with a roller. Get a cheap and easy to manage paint sprayer (I use a critter sprayer, literally a glass mason jar, so few parts so its easy to clean and insanely cheap) and use a little paint thinner so it goes on smoother. Is it more coats? yes, but the finish will be so much cleaner. Not to mention cuts down painting time for pretty much any painting project. Always stir your paint really well before you pour more or use, med-high gloss settles fast and needs to be remixed. The sprayer helps avoid lines from brushes and rollers Bathroom 1. keep a wet paper towel with you while painting, if you drip some paint like you did somewhere you dont want, swipe it really fast. The water will keep the paint from leaving any color pigments behind. Its worth it to not have to repaint the entire window sill because you couldnt get all the color off. 2. Its wonderful that you worked out fitting the floors so well. But next time pull out the toilet (much easier than you think) and put the flooring in around the flange, the toilet will then cover the edges of the floor. It seems like you used silicone to hide the gap but you never want to do that, because silicone traps water under the toilet so if for any reason it leaks water whenever flushed you wont know and it can rot your floors, in this case damaging the concrete. Ideally the toilet is one of the last things you want to install because then the plumbers can account for the height of the floor etc. But I understand you probably didnt have the time to get them in beforehand. 3.Your carpentry skills are great for learning as you go. But consider getting a countersink or pocket jig (both very cheap and easy to use) to hide your screws and nails, fill with wood filler and sand then paint. You can also use trim, quarter round etc to hide little gaps or awkward join spots. It looks so professional, its so cheap and no one will know its to hide your edges. I love your videos and look forward to all the before and afters of this house.
That blue gray color in the first room is amazingggg, also loving the tiny pops of pink from the pans on the kitchen wall and the soap bottle in the bathroom.
I hate to say it, but I actually liked the pink door 😳 Part of me really wants to see what it would look like if it were painted a very very very VERY pale pink to pay homage to the old door and to be a subtle nod to the pink motifs in the rest of your home 🤗 I love what you’re doing with this home and I’m truly inspired by all of your hard work and creativity! Keep it up, girl 😚💕
Every room has such lovely windows that let in so much light. Really loving what you guys are doing with all the rooms. Hoping you guys get a nice warm autumn, renovationg while it's cold is no fun
You are doing such an wonderful job. The house looks gorgeous and has such character and charm as well as a comfy elegance. The fact that you are doing it yourself is amazing. You should be so proud of it, you have turned an old house into a truly beautiful home.
Everything is turning out just beautiful!! For the floor of your bathroom you can look for sheets of sticky paper that look like marble/tiles/wood, whatever you prefer! They are really cheap and easy to install and can really change the look of a room :)
I would thoroughly recommend finding a person who can dip strip your door in a caustic bath. We did this with an over painted fireplace surround in our old house that we did up. Once we were allowed to pick it up, we had to leave it for around 3 months to make sure it was fully dry, but we then waxed it and it looks stunning.
I really admire you doing all this by yourself! Love how the bathroom turned out, i'd have never thought to use that sort of colour but it looks amazing!
Your home is coming together quite nicely!!! Your hard work and dedication is so relaxing to watch because you are patient and not rushing the results!! Kudos to you👍🏽TFS😊
Thank you so much, this means a lot to me! I really admire when people do a room makeover and it comes together in one video, it's too difficult to do that quickly 😅
We've restored tons of doors. All you gotta do is take them off the hinges and then use the heat gun technique outside with some saw horses so your not hurting your back too much.
I applaud you! You have done a lot of work to get to where you love your place more. What an accomplishment! I'm also a "do-er" so I know how good it feels.
Nice work. Doors are a lot easier to do if you pop them off the hinges and set them down horizontally so you can get some gravity into your elbow grease - and you don't mess up the whole room doing it. So easy to pop off by just pushing the pins out.
You can send doors out to get "dipped" in paint stripper. It's not crazy expensive and it's so much easier especially if you want to leave the wood exposed and varnish them.
Wow what a difference paint can make:D Your house is really coming together, such a difference from that early housetour that looked like it take forever for the house to be liveable but you really know your renovation & decoration, wow!

Well impressed seeing you box in the pipes and sort the floor out! Also, I really liked the colour pink on the door, think it looked nice with the blue walls! X
To say "WOW", is an understatement! Girl! it turned out absolutely divine! You are FIERCE! - - -I see rubber gloves & a shower cap in your future paint renovations! LOL!
I get so excited when I see a notification from you I just love how your home is coming together one of my dream is to restore a older home with lots of character, I just love your home and you and hubby doing a beautiful job

I absolutely LOVE the little toilet! That colour looks awesome and I’m so glad you decided to paint the boxing in to match the walls, it looked weird when it was white. The finished result looks great. The other rooms are coming together as well but you seriously need to offload some of your furniture, it’s looking incredibly clutter up. 👍🏻👏🏻
Wow I love the color of the dining room. I would have never chosen such a dark color for the bathroom, but I have to admit it looks amazing. Great job gril! :)

thanks for the tips!
you were so brave opening that paint on your new counter.
Mary West ..OMG...I held my breath when she did that!
deborah rogers--yeah right?? I actually shuttered too!!!! lol
same
exactly what I thought!!!
I‘m a crafty person like you, but still...so freaking impressive what you do by yourself. Those covers for the pipes in the toilet - very cool!
Kind of loved the old pink door!
ME TOO 😭it was a gorgeous shade of pink, but I painted the door in my office pink which is in my next video to make up for it 😊
I ADORE that color of pink and it looked so good with the blue wall, too!
So did I, it was lovely

I did this with my fire surround and it caught loads of dust and plant life all over it I had to start again
or just dismount the fire alarm 🙄
Good call on changing the bathroom box bits to black. Really makes it blend in and allows the new white fixtures and decor to pop!
I love that you share the downs as well as the ups in your videos. Wow! The door looks amazing !!! Well done !!!! I'm not a fan of the dark bathroom. I would have gone with pale pink and bright white. tfs 💐💐💐💐💐
I just love how the little bathroom turned out! It is really uncommon and something special :)
Love from Switzerland
Thank you so much, this is such a lovely comment! Love from the UK 😀💖
@@HermioneChantal thank you :)
You're really inspiring me to try some diys. I'm moving with my boyfriend in about a month, and hopefully I can try something then :)
I agree! Actually, I like all the color choices. Thanks for showing how something you might not go for will look on the wall.
I agree with you painting the bathroom wall all dark blue, looks so much more elegant

Great advice, nicely given!
I actually loved that shade of pink on the door next to the new blue
The box in the bathroom looks so much better in black. It makes the bathroom look bigger.

Good call on the little bathroom girl. It looks so much better the blue/black color you used. I just what you're doing to the house hunny. ♥️♥️♥️
Defo think you made the right choice changing the pipe covers to black the bathroom looks so classy xx
You are doing such an wonderful job. The house looks gorgeous and has such character and charm as well as a comfy elegance. The fact that you are doing it yourself is amazing. You should be so proud of it, you have turned an old house into a truly beautiful home.
I always think that a dark color will make a small space look like a cave, but it somehow ends up looking larger. Love everything you've been doing!!
Everything is turning out just beautiful!! For the floor of your bathroom you can look for sheets of sticky paper that look like marble/tiles/wood, whatever you prefer! They are really cheap and easy to install and can really change the look of a room :)
I love the wooden cover painted black so glad you changed it!
I CAN’T WAIT FOR YOU TO FINISH THE HOUSE! It’s going to look so nice and hope we get a “before & after” house tour! 💖
Love your color choices!
My only suggestion is to paint the mirror in the half bath silver to match the faucet and other fixtures!
When you sanded the door by hand I couldn't help but think 'what a women' my electric sander was my best friend when we moved into our fixer upper xx

The teeny tiny bathroom looks AMAZING!!!! I was so excited when you painted the wood black! LOVE LOVE LOVE!!! Cheers all the way from India
Your home is coming together quite nicely!!!

Thank you so much, this means a lot to me! I really admire when people do a room makeover and it comes together in one video, it's too difficult to do that quickly 😅
That bathroom tranformation...wow!!!
Totally agree with painting the bathroom box black 👍🏻
We've restored tons of doors. All you gotta do is take them off the hinges and then use the heat gun technique outside with some saw horses so your not hurting your back too much.
The bathroom is gorgeous! My favourite room so far!
The amount of sweat equity you’ve both put into your home is admirable!! 💕🤗
You have come a long way and I’m proud of all the hard work you have put into your home. Great job.
I wasn't really shure that tone of black was good for a tiny room, bur it is so stunnig! A great guess bathroom.
I applaud you! You have done a lot of work to get to where you love your place more. What an accomplishment! I'm also a "do-er" so I know how good it feels.
I love the blue gray colour too. Good choice!
I just love all the colours you're using in every room of your house. They make it look so pretty, comfortable and peaceful!
Nice work. Doors are a lot easier to do if you pop them off the hinges and set them down horizontally so you can get some gravity into your elbow grease - and you don't mess up the whole room doing it. So easy to pop off by just pushing the pins out.
The bathroom turned out so cute with the box painted the dark color!!!
Love the flock of seagulls shade so much, I'm going to use it!
Great job lady!!! That bathroom looks so good!! And the color of the dining room is amazing.
That bathroom looks great! I'm loving the dark powder room trend!
My respect for so dedicated work. Your house is turning very nice.
You can send doors out to get "dipped" in paint stripper. It's not crazy expensive and it's so much easier especially if you want to leave the wood exposed and varnish them.
Great job with the bathroom! I too love the way paint can change the feel of a space.
Wow what a difference paint can make:D
Your house is really coming together, such a difference from that early housetour that looked like it take forever for the house to be liveable but you really know your renovation & decoration, wow!
SO satisfying when you fixed up that door
Take the door off and use the heatgun outside maybe? :D
Your fire alarm totally triggered my cat lol, at least she just hides under a couch when scared. Love your videos Hermione and I'm so looking forward to being able to do something like this myself when I finish school!
I’m really amazed that you did all by yourself... 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Yesss you have no idea how happy I am to see that masking tape, it was stressing me out seeing you paint your walls so close to the edge without any tape on hahahaha
Anyway, love the dark blue!
Haha 🙈I watch footage of me doing it and cringe really badly, it's so awkward to watch! Thank you for the comment 😀
Love your vids - I’m diy-ing my new place at the moment and have found that a paint pole that attaches to your roller makes painting the upper half of the walls and ceilings soooo much easier! No ladders and coming up and down needed’
Yay another home renovation video xxxxx
Everything is looking amazing! You’re doing a fantastic job and most importantly I feel you are being real and honest about the entire process. Can’t wait to see the final product!
It is so inspiring to see your house turn into your home. I would love to know how you decide what needs to be replaced and what can be salvaged. The pink door looked to me as something that cannot be salvaged so when you rescued it, I was really eye opening. Also, I am looking to repaint my own kitchen and other DIY's, so if you have any helpful tips on how to use tools interchangeably, it would be really helpful! I liked your comment on the filler, even though it wasnt a wood filler, it still worked. Things like that are helpful.
I thought of painting some walls dark grey in my house, but now i have seen the flock-of-seagulls ♡♡. I had doors like yours when i moved in and i used an old broom handle to fill the holes.
Loving these videos! I recently bought my first house, a little country cottage and I am having so much fun decorating it.
I love the “this is not a tutorial” disclaimers lol. Everything looks beautiful, keep it up!
we think that you did a fantastic job on each room
You are amazing! Its brilliant you did all the work yourself. Especially the boxing in of the bathroom. I just did mine and paid someone skilled as I had no idea how do any of it and am scared of power tools. At this rate your beautiful house will soon be done. Love the changes.
I quite fancied the pink against your new wall colour.
You are such a renovation rockstar, the toilet looks amazing!!
Well impressed seeing you box in the pipes and sort the floor out! Also, I really liked the colour pink on the door, think it looked nice with the blue walls! X
You are the Diy Queen Hermione 👸🏻
We had all our old doors dipped which was much quicker and they came back completely clean x
I quite fancied the pink door against your new wall colour.
I lowkey think the fireplace mantel would look amazing in the samr colour you did the little bathroom in xx love your colour choices!!
watching u paint that old door was soooo satisfying😊
Wow you are so creative! It is amazing what you did to your home. Everything is coming along so beautiful!
Oh the bathroom turned out so nice!
To say "WOW", is an understatement! Girl! it turned out absolutely divine! You are FIERCE! - - -I see rubber gloves & a shower cap in your future paint renovations! LOL!
Ooh! I've just bought my first house with my partner and that flock of seagulls colour is exactly what I'm after!!
I get so excited when I see a notification from you I just love how your home is coming together one of my dream is to restore a older home with lots of character, I just love your home and you and hubby doing a beautiful job
I'm with Eily Bergin! Get a couple saw horses and do all the doors outside :) For all the reasons already listed, and more. So much easier, and much better results :)
It all looks so so good!! Your hard work is definitely paying off
YES YES YES. I was jumping around seeing that you have uploaded
Edit: Thanks for the heart hermione. Here's a few for you ❤❤❤. Also thanks for the 4 likes. It's the most I've ever got.
Another edit: I thought that the black wouldn't look nice but it went nice with the white sink toilet and window.
Hhhhh same!!
Wow! Amazing job girl! You are amazing, this house is going to be so cool
Everything turned out great. The bathroom was adorable. You wete so right about the white boards. Love your vlogs.
your house is coming together amazingly! I'm so impressed by how handy you are with doing so much yourself its very impressive!
Love love how the bathroom turned out!!
It‘s amazing to see this development. (And I fell in love with the seagull-paint and the „who farted“-picture 😃)
Wow I love the color of the dining room. I would have never chosen such a dark color for the bathroom, but I have to admit it looks amazing. Great job gril! :)
so satisfying to watch....and wow you did the small bathroon on your own 👏
I hope he helps and gets involved more off camera them he does on it, you girl are super woman the amount you do!
Seriously in awe of your skills (and determination!)
The bathroom looks amazing.
Nice job on that door. "Everything going to plan as always." LOL
I am so proud of you. It is looking BEAUTIFUL! You have come so far.
Something really satisfying watching this😍😍😍😍
I cannot believe you did the bathroom joinery yourself! Fab job girl!!! 💪🏻 x
Your house literally looked so bad when you moved in and you transformed it into a heaven on earth!
I got the same dark colour from valspar. I think It would look good painted on tables or cupboards x
Very impressed with your handy skills work that saw girl xx
