Tractor Tuesday | 1949 Farmall H. How to make your gas tractor run more efficiently. How to make your antique tractor run good. #farmallfanatic #farmall #farmallh
In my house, Main Stream TV has been replaced by Farmall videos, there are a couple of you guys that have been producing some great videos. Imagine that, I am learning, basically watching reality TV without all the cussing and drug use. Imagine if Duck Dynasty had a Farmall...
Those plugs made a big difference starting it up . The more i'm learning about these old tractors the better. I changed my M's oil yesterday and added some zinc and Prolong to the oil . I went to pull my disc that had been sitting for about 15 years and the M couldn't even budge them . I stood the front end right up in the air trying lol. I got to get new hoses to raise it up . I was able to bring up my plow from the woods at least . Trying to see what i'm going to need to plant this year . Thanks for sharing !
@@FarmallFanatic I can't remember the size but it's just a little wider than the tractor so maybe 10 or 12 feet . To be honest I thought it would pull it right out and do some discing so I could throw some seed out .
Excellent video Gino :) on your 1949 Farmall H basic model is your 6 volt positive ground with generator or updated 12 negative ground with 12 volt GM Delco Alternator in and my dad always changed Spark plugs, wire plus cap with rotor and points in Spring before Summer and Fall Seasons after Combine used for Summer season and after combine all grains done ! Plus engine oil plus filter also air filter and fuel too it was gas model ! He never like breaking down it made made and but new stuff give them Farmall a big boost and lots boom 💥 plus fresh life ahead too !
Even though I'm clearly an Oliver guy, I do have a Farmall H. It's a narrow front, like most in our area. Unfortunately, it does more sitting than running. Good video.
Interesting to see those plugs and its not that tired compared to one of my neighbors that will need head shaved and its getting some 300 upgrades. it have denso plugs and they see to work longer than the Autolite for a tractor that just doing some 200 miles cruise . I miss the old split fires you could bend them back with pliers and get another 150 hours out of lol
An H was the first tractor I ever drove, fifty years ago at age eleven. We were using sickle bar to mow hay in Northern Michigan. It was maybe a 47 with narrow front.
And I agree number three PUFFED A LITTLE ON START UP!! A file or small grinder works WONDERS ON THOSE WORN DOWN THROTTLE LEVERS TOO! JUST DEEPEN THE GROOVES!!
Woke thinskins? That's awfully polite toward them! Your H sure runs nice when you get good plugs. With the way the old ones were, it's amazing it started at all. That coarser throttle will help a lot. I'm amazed they didn't use a friction throttle on the Farmalls from the factory. The W-4, 6 and 9 series tractors had friction throttles and they always stayed where they were set.
if you put 2 cans of seafoam into the gas tank upon refill for 2 tanks then use 1 seafoam can in the next 4 tanks it will clean those cylinder up like none other
Thinking JD B Was first tractor I drove pulling IH 2 Row godig if you call driving once you had it on the corn ridge steady hand on steering wheel only driving was turning around dsome how I just never liked the hand couch popper's. Not sure why Dad ever bought that B he was a Red man had the first new Farmall Regular in our county that came on rubber from the factory. Now nice day I have to go check my H and SM to see which style of throttle I have guessing the M will have square but H probably the small V notches as think it's a mid forty model.
When you do that engine overhaul on your H are you going to share any of that? I think I have to do one on the one my brother and I have also looking for tip and pointers on doing it.
That square notched throttle is much better than the "sawtooth" one. The little "t pawl" that fastens into the throttle handle is also replaceable when it wears out, although it's a bit pricey for what it is. Personally, I prefer the M&W friction style throttle assy. Just so happens I've got one of each style on my M tractors. 🙄
@Driston Petree : Hey, great catch bub... & yup, it sure did! She shot out a nice hot out of place spark to a nearby ground, which appeared to be from the coil's main lead to the distributor body. @Farmall Fanatic has got a bunch of problems beyond needing plugs. In fact, you can bet that other issues are what are causing the plugs to foul out... likely from random misfiring. I'll bet good money that those spark plug wires are junk, for one thing. IDC if he put them on new recently or not, and especially junk if they're the trash that Tractor Supply sells. (Been there.) The best way to test is to get her running, then take a water bottle & mist spray all of the spark plug wires & distributor cap. If there's any "spark leakage", you'll find it in a hurry. When wet, the engine may even start running like total crap from mis-firing, or even stall right out. Best to get some good quality aftermarket universal fit 7mm (or preferrably 8mm, as bigger IS better, in this case) SILICONE spark plug wires from Summit Racing or through your local auto parts store. I think I used MSD wires, but tbh, I don't exactly recall, as it has been a long time now. Make up your own custom wire set, & they'll perform great & last for many, many years. I did just that for a family friend who has a gas JD 4020 that had constant misfire issues. The quality wires fixed it, and it's still running great a decade later. The plug wires that the Deere dealer offered were just as trashy as the terrible Tractor Supply ones. Poor man's tip: Buy some silicone spray & soak the plug wires & all electrical on the outside. Let air dry, and repeat. Silicone spray helps repel moisture away AND it helps keep spark from arcing externally, where it's not wanted.
Just bought my first farmall ever yesterday, its an H and even has the wide front like the one in the vid. Missing the information tag, just a couple corners left. Any other way i can get info? It looks the same as this 1949. The man i bought it from said it has a disc type brake which narrows it down.??? Idk. Any help would be great.
Wow thank you, i also found a chart for the letters, engine = 6.18.j and on the deck is 6.14.j so if im correct its a june 14 to june 18 1940 model H. I was born june 15 (in the 60s) hehe, must have been ment to be haha. Man thank you for the help
I agree those distributors are garbage. They allow the timing to jump waaay too much when they get wear in the bevel gears. Id rather have a mag than one of those delco distributors. I think i have one that is still on a tractor. Rest have been changed
I was just wandering, a former ag teacher, who also the red power president for Texas at one time, said there is a difference. If you were going to use it in a parade aftermarket parts were fine, if you were going to work it use genuine IH parts, at one time he had over 80 tractors. Different brands.
My old h fouls no 1 plug every so often seems gas fouled looks like it would b hard to hand crank with that wide front if ya had to got one the starter gave up on need to take it apart n see why just been hand cranking it usually start after one prime crank
It's reversible to be under the engine slightly. Out front it allowed the mounted cultivators on the tractor. The newer tractor's starting with the 300+MTA were longer and the cultivators mounted slightly different allowing the newer axles
Hey man I not much of a mechanic but correct me if I'm wrong that H you got originally came with a tricycle front end and someone converted it to a wide front in am I'm right

Great to see the old H again.
Couldn’t agree more FF, the H was a very nimble and agile tractor for lack of better terms. It never gets old hearing an H run👍🏻keep em comin 🇺🇸💪🏻🇺🇸
I used to love driving our narrow front super H . They are handy tractors , Thanks for the video 🇺🇸

Nothing like the sound of a Farmall with a new set of spark plugs. 🎵🎵🎼🎼🎶🎶😊

I'm always very envious when you show the H on the channel. Love that wide front! In my area they are all narrow front H's
the square notch throttle plates were standard on a 54 SMTA

The holes are slotted where that distributor housing bolts up you can rotate it away from the hood then turn distributor to get timing back
