- Won't Get Fooled Again
28. Bon Scott (AC/DC)

31 Frank Dimino (Angel)
30 Paul DiAnno (Iron Maiden)
29 Paul Stanley (Kiss)
28 Charlie Huhn (Ted Nugent, Foghat)
27 Neil Thomas (White Tiger, Nasty Nasty)
My pick today is the great Paul Rodgers, still going strong in his seventy-fifth year, and an essential member of iconic groups Free and Bad Company. Rodgers' distinctive voice is at once both soulful and elemental, stirring in the way that only the best rock music can be. For three exemplary albums showcasing his gift I'd choose 'Fire and Water' (1970), from Free, and from Bad Company, 'Bad Company' (1974) and 'Straight Shooter' (1975). The single most iconic track I could cite for Rodgers would be "Bad Company", the quintessence of the gritty, elemental quality of Rodgers' expressiveness.
My pick #27 favorite vocalist is Bryan Ferry - Roxy Music - 1. For Your Pleasure, 2. Roxy Music and 3. Stranded. Favorite vocal song: Song for Europe.
31. Steve Walsh - Kansas - 1. Leftoverture, 2. Point of Know Return and 3. Song for America. Favorite song vocal: The Wall.
30. Geddy Lee - Rush - 1. Moving Pictures, 2. Grace Under Pressure and 3. Permanent Waves. Favorite song vocal: Spirit of Radio.
29. Justin Hayward - Moody Blues - 1. Days of Future Passed, 2. A Question of Balance and 3. Long Distance Voyager. Favorite song vocal: The Story in Your Eyes.
28. IQ - Peter Nicholls - 1. Road of Bones, 2. Dark Matter and 3. Frequency. Favorite song vocal: Ten Million Demons.
27. Bryan Ferry - Roxy Music - 1. For Your Pleasure, 2. Roxy Music and 3. Stranded. Favorite vocal song: Song for Europe.
27. Stevie Nicks
--Rumors (Fleetwood Mac)
--Tusk (Fleetwood Mac)
--Belladonna (Solo)
Song: "Stand Back" from The Wild Heart album, though overall vocals better on the three albums above
Day 5. Paul Rodgers - Fire and Water, The Royal Sessions, Bad Company - song: Heavy Load One of the all-time greats here. Paul really shines when he sings a slow ballad or blue. His voice can give that extra emotion to the song.
1. Bill Champlin - Welcome to the Dance, A Circle Filled with Love, Live
2. Al Green - Call Me, Let's Stay Together, The Lord Will Make a Way - song: Love And Happiness
3. Tim Buckley - Blue Afternoon, Lorca, Starsailor - song: The Train
4. Jerry LaCroix - Edgar Winter's White Trash/ Roadwork, S/T, Second Coming - song: Turn On Your Lovelight
5. Paul Rodgers - Fire and Water, The Royal Sessions, Bad Company - song: Heavy Load
Excellent pick Mark.
Rodgers was my pick today as well. There's a special elemental flavor to his voice that makes him unique.
Great pick Mark. Paul will be appearing on my list too later in the month. I often think of him as the rock singer's rock singer.

Albums: 1) What´s Going On
2) Here My Dear

Track: Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler)
Powerful song and today more relevant than ever. The smooth vocal performance and wonderful groove contrasts with the harsh reality he sings about.

Ann Wilson (Heart)
Best Albums
1. Heart (1985)
2. Bad Animals (1987)
3. Brigade (1990)
Best Song - What about love (1985)
My pick for Today: Brad Delp of Boston. One of the most pristine and perfect voices in rock history! I honestly struggled with picking my favourite performance of his! In the end I went for Hitch a ride off the first album. Definitely one of his softer performances but so soothing and melodic.
"Hitch a Ride" is perhaps my favorite Boston song.
27) Grace Slick (Jefferson Airplane)
Favorite Albums:

#2 Surrealistic Pillow
#3 Woodstock Sunday August 17, 1969
Favorite Performance:
"Triad" from Crown Of Creation

Gracie is rightfully known for her powerful voice , however I chose this David Crosby-penned song from Crown Of Creation because it shows a more gentle, softer side of her talent.

Hi Pete & everyone. Dave here. My pick today is DAVID COVERDALE. Plucked from obscurity, he burst on the scene as Ian Gillan's successor in Deep Purple. Terrific on record as well as live (saw him on the Burn tour - another pick from that show coming up).
Albums: Burn, Stormbringer - Deep Purple. Whitesnake s/t (aka 1987).
Song: Still Of The Night.
Great pick Dave, he will be coming up on my list later in the month, difficult thing is picking favourite song as there are so many
@@mordrid11man15 That's true. Thanks, Mordrid.
Terrific pick Dave. I have him coming up for nomination later in the month. I envy you seeing him in Deep Purple. It is hard to believe that he arrived in that mega band as an unknown with the vocal chops that he had.
@@jerryattwooll4864 Thanks, Jerry. Yes, we could barely believe how good he was for a rookie.
Magnificent pick Dave and terrific LP selection. Always been a big fan of Stormbringer.
My #27 pick is The Lead singer of the band Van Halen I'm talking about David Lee Roth
Albums- The Debut Self Titled Van Halen, Fair Warning, and Women and Children First
Song- Everybody Wants Some, . It is one of the band's most popular songs, starting as a concert highlight throughout the band's early career. The song is rife with experimental features including a "jungle" drum and Tarzan-like vocal introduction and some new guitar playing techniques from guitarist Eddie Van Halen. The drum-vocal interlude or breakdown section has an improvised feel, with Roth ad-libbing conversational dialogue; for example, he begins the section by saying “I like…” before being cut off by Eddie striking a guitar chord, then finishes "I like the way the line runs up the back of the stockings". At the very end of the song, Roth quips, "Look, I'll pay you for it, what the fuck?" The last word is not clearly audible due to the song's fade-out ending, and radio stations occasionally play the uncensored song as a result.
The song was a staple on all of the tours with Roth, following its release. Often, the band would stop in the middle of the song and Roth would chat with the crowd for several minutes before finishing the song. In later years, with their later lead singers, Van Halen would use the opening drum beat from this song as an introduction into "Panama" which was another song I was thinking about choosing. The song appeared in the 1985 comedy Better Off Dead in a humorous Claymation scene featuring a hamburger playing like Eddie Van Halen.
Hi Pete. Excellent choice in Geoff Tate. More to come on him in my rankings. Here is my pick for day 27.
Pick # 27 - Roger Daltrey - The Who - 3 Albums - Who's Next - Quadrophenia - Live At Leeds - Song - Behind Blue Eyes
My pick today is a vocalist often relegated to being thought of as a sideman in the band that he's best known for singing in, but he has been main lead vocalist in projects outside of that band and has released solo material. I'm nominating pick 27 Ted Nugent (band) singer DEREK ST HOLMES. I just wish he had sung even more.
Fave St Holmes Albums
Ted Nugent
Cat Scratch Fever
Whitford/ St Holmes.
Fave vocal.
Stranglehold. (might be better known for it's riff and solo, but what a great soulful vocal from Derek).
28 Klaus Meine
29 Ronnie Van Zant
30 Pat Benatar
31 Jimmy Dewar.
@@jerryattwooll4864 Hi Jerry, another one I'd have to admit I hadn't considered, but certainly an underrated singer, clearly overshadowed by his more in-your-face employer. Must agree, those early Nugent albums are great.

27 John Fogerty
Creedence Clearwater Revival fooled everyone when their early albums came out. The thought was that they were from Mississippi or Louisiana with that swampy bayou style. No they were from California with The Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane and others of the psychedelic 60’s. The story was that they were just like those San Francisco bands…but they just came from poorer families.
They were at their core a blues rock band with elements of Country and Hard Rock thrown together in a boogie stew. They even had a song titled “Born on the Bayou”. At first they did a lot of covers, but soon John became their primary songwriter. “Proud Mary” was an early one that went almost unnoticed until Ike & Tina Turner covered it.
But the band got tighter…and John Fogerty’s songs got better and better. It culminated on their third album “Green River” in 1969. Tunes like the title track, “Commotion”, “Bad Moon Rising” , “Lodi” and “Wrote a Song For Everyone” gained the band a lot of fans. And the hits came rolling out. But not only was John a fine songwriter, he played a mean lead guitar, and had a powerful voice to go with it. The deep cuts like “Cross-Tie Walker” & “Tombstone Shadow” showed him to have a voice of the common man. He could shout with soul and croon with tenderness that made him one of the best singers of his generation.
“Willy and the Poor Boys” was the next album still in 1969. Songs like covers of “Cotton Fields” and “Midnight Special” traced them back to their roots in folk blues. When you cover “Lead Belly” you are taken very seriously indeed. Another song by John was “Down on the Corner”. When it was covered by the Jackson Five ( or was it The Osmonds…I forget )…it gave CCR even more notoriety. But the band took chances with songs like “Fortunate Son” that cemented their roots as a band of the people, but attacked those with money and power. And “Effigy” about race relations that was taking on a very touchy subject at the time in America.
“Cosmo’s Factory” is my last record from 1970 that best showcases the greatness of this band. “Run Through the Jungle” ,loosely about Vietnam, “Up Around the Bend” and “Travelin’ Band” became classics of their rock vision. “Lookin’ Out My Back Door” was a tribute to the “Bakersfield” sound of Buck Owens and an amazing song. One of the best JF songs ever written is “Who’ll Stop the Rain” based on their show at Woodstock. It’s a very touching tune that never gets old in my mind. They had two long songs on this album the first of which was “Ramble Tamble” with its lengthy guitar soloing by John Fogerty and a fantastic cover of “I Heard It Through the Grapevine” clocking in at over 11 minutes. This album had something for everyone.
It’s about time that I mention the CCR band which were brother Tom Fogerty on rhythm guitar, Stu Cook on Bass and Doug Clifford on drums. Together the formed a strong rhythm section that allowed a canvas for John to create his vision in song. But that created a tension of jealousy and recriminations that led to the breakup of the band in 1972. What a short but productive period they had of three years…maybe the most prolific in Rock history !!
My song pick is hard but I am going with “Long As I Can See the Light” that closes the Cosmos album. It’s slow and solemn and best showcases John’s remarkable soulful voice to best effect. John Fogerty was just an amazing talent with a remarkable voice.
Great pick, Richard, for singer and for the album closer choice of the personal favorite of their catalogue.

Nirvana - Nevermind (1991)

Nirvana - In Utero (1993)
On Nirvana's first tour they were opening for Tad, and I was stoked for Nirvana. Of all the Sub Pop bands, including Soundgarden, who'd already moved on to a major label, I thought Cobain was the best singer by far, even in the early days. There was barely a hundred people at that show, and they were equally impressed. Looks like a few million more people eventually agreed.

Bob Seger's bluesy rock n' roll style speaks to me on so many levels, songs like Brave Strangers, The Famous Final Scene, Night Moves, Still the Same, Ain't Got No Money, and my all time favorite song, Turn the Page.
His album run from Beautiful Loser - The Distance was phenomenal, a five album run of classics!
So far we have in no order:
- Andre Matos
- Tobias Sammet
- Sammy Hagar
- Zakk Wylde
- Bob Seger
Excellent choice, friend. Bob was my pick a couple of days ago.
#27. Gene Clark
28. Neko Case
29. Sharon Jones
30. Sam Cooke
31. Cerys Matthews
I know that many here hate him, but for a long time I liked Kiedis's voice, his phrasing and rapping. I always knew that he doesn't have a great voice and lately I find most of his latest albums unbearable, but his voice represents a part of my emotional memory. "Blood Sugar Sex Magik" changed my life.
#27 Anthony Kiedis (RHCP 1985-2002)
Albums: Freaky Styley, Blood Sugar Sex Magik, Californication
Song: Otherside
Davey Pattison in Gamma. First 3 albums. His vocals on Wish I Was are incredible.

A given. Arguably the most powerful vocalist in rock history. A Versatile and instantly recognizable that was like a lightning bolt even in his dying days. Robert Plant said it best at the tribute concert: "A tribute and testament to him, which a lot of people won't click and understand, a lot of people are changing the keys to these songs because they just can't do it." Honorable mention to Roger Taylor. He is another stellar vocalist, and if he was paired with the right songwriter and band, some magic could have been made.

Good morning (afternoon, evening or night), Pete. Another fine selection. Personal pick today? An American singer born in 1946 who has recorded/performed in so many genres that will likely overlook some though they include Latin music, rock, country, opera, and the Great American Songbook. The talented singer, Ms. Linda Ronstadt. Though she has retired due to health conditions, she leaves a catalogue of 24 studio albums and a multitude of compilations/greatest hits. Picking three albums is difficult though the three for today are Heart Like A Wheel [5th solo album released November '74]; What's New [the first in her trilogy of the Great American Songbook albums released in September 1983]; and Silk Purse [her second solo album released in 1970]. Favorite song? Even tougher because of all the genres. The heart says either Long, Long Time from Silk Purse as the first song I can remember hearing from her or Someone To Watch Over Me for What's New as really enjoy her Great American Songbook trilogy. But the mind says to pick When Will I Be Loved from the Heart Like A Wheel album. Picked for its clearly showing the power of Ms. Ronstadt's voice as much as the emotional quality she brought to so many songs. Thanks, Pete. Looking forward to your next selection.

Got to have “Rockin’ Rod on this list. The album Never a Dull Moment is one of my favs…True Blue, Italian Girls, You Wear It Well, Twistin’ the Night Away and an amazing cover of Hendrix’s Angel. Ron Wood was in peak form too. Rod had great solo albums and recordings with Faces at the same time. Remarkable output from 1968 with Truth to the mid 70’s.
Can you tell…I am a big Rod Stewart fan. Saw him twice …great rock and roll showman !!

Fantastic pick and song choices. I like Rod Stewart as well, but he didn't quite make my list. 🎶💜💜
Tom Johnston. Toulouse Street, The Captain And Me, and What Were Once Vices Are Now Habits. Favorite vocal is Listen To The Music.
What a great choice there, I'll be including Tom at a later date. The Captain and Me is definitely a favourite album, Stampede too is a great record but doesn't seem to get a mention as much as other albums featuring Tom. Later albums with Michael McDonald weren't upto the same standard for me.
@@keithjones7390 McDonald has a great voice, but I definitely prefer the earlier material !

😃👍. My pick today! - Heather
At that point in time mid-late eighties, he was the best singer in metal. The Warning may be the greatest heavy metal vocal performance of all time. Ronnie is the greatest from his body of work.
DAY 27=FRANK DIMINO---ANGEL. -Saw Angel back in the day and they were so amazing as their shows always were. Great spectacle. Great Hard Rock-Glam. Real good vocalist with Frank and great harmonies and such with rest.
Angel is the first album by the rock band Angel. "Tower", the keyboard-heavy opening track,[3] was used widely during the late 1970s and early 1980s by album rock radio stations in the US for various advertising purposes. The track is also on K-SHE radio's Classic List.[4] This album can be seen[by whom?] as representing the band's early progressive roots, with Helluva Band seeing the group starting to move towards an increasingly hard rock-oriented sound. Tracks 6-8 segue to form a 10-minute mini suite.

🎶🎶 I will use the 3 albums Angel -Angel 1975, Helluva Band 1976, On Earth as It Is in Heaven 1977. I also have White Hot after that on vinyl so have the 2 mentioned on vinyl. And like other albums with 8 studio albums they did. And a live album Live Without a Net 1980.
So many fine songs with Frank and his vocals on the songs. So I will go with the starting track on first album -The Tower its so iconic and the usual start of their show but not always and with the pyrotechnics start and hearing and seeing the song is just fantastic. The first album got me into Angel back in the day. They still do some shows and in 2023 with a strong great album that would rank well along in the top 5.
Btw Pete and Geoff Tate of Queensryche great pick!!! I have on list as well as later. I maybe as more then likely the same song that is iconic to me as well to bring up then too in later on my list. As well as some Honorable mentions. - Sorry missed chat. I feeling out of things. Strain along in leg and knee waking up. But good to see everybody on the board today that comes in.
