Hi Jamal . When you get a chance , listen to The Tavares Heaven must be missing an angel . It's a personal request , I hope you're doing well , take care 😎
I get compliments on my "Just Be a Good Human" shirt in public a lot, and I always tell them to find you on UA-cam, Jamel. Thanks for being the great human you are, brother. PS, Depeche Mode is amazing, RIP to Andy Fletcher!
Depeche Mode live is a unique experience for their fans. I'm fortunate that I saw them many times over the years, and continue to listen to live bootleg recordings, so good since they perform so well.
Depeche Mode, the first music I heard as a child, played every day in our home. I am turning 30 in a few weeks and still love them. Saw them live several times and it's one of the few things that still remains in my life since the beginning. That's the power of their music. ❤❤❤
Dave Gahan has always had incredible stage presence, even in the early days. He just looks like he is having the time of his life up there, and it is infectious. What a band.
He still does! At least hope they still have… I just got into Depeche in the past year - completely obsessed - and just bought tickets this morning for March 2023 Los Angeles - $300/ticket for medium-level seats…
@@NicholasHarsin yep! About $240 for lower part of upper level in San Antonio. (But should be a good view of Martin!) If I had it to spend, this almost 48 yr old would be on the floor, dancing my ass off! 💜
So glad you haven't given up on DM due to vids getting blocked. So many great songs to discover. This is my favorite band and their concerts are a spiritual event. This is always the last song of the shows. From their 1987 album Music For the Masses!
Hi, I'm from Mexico. You know our mother language is spanish. Every time DM came, we sang in english all their songs, with mexican feeling. That energy they have, make you dance in your chair.
Watching this I broke. Cried. I've seen DM every time they've come through here and a few extras when I traveled to see them far away. Thinking I'll never join this, or singing at the end of Home, or just reaching out to touch faith with ten thousand others, ever again... I'm crushed. Godspeed, Fletch, you made a lot of lives better.
Hi Jamel. Please Read This Comment!!! I've commented to several of your videos over the years but this one is VERY Special to me!!!! I've been a hard core fan of DM since I was 17. That was back in 1987. The year this song was released. The loss of Fletch was a sad day for me. Yes that makes me an old guy that has followed DM for almost 40 years. (OG MODE FAN) I've seen them 9 time in concert.. An interesting fact you should know... This is a song the one they have been using for their final anchor song for the past 37 years.. Hands side to side led by Dave is Expected, Wanted and Loved by every true DM fan. Thank you for you time Jamel. Love you channel....
Dave Gahan is electric on stage, whether was due to his addictions at that time. This is him at his fiery best. He's up there with Freddie Mercury as one of the great frontman
Only seen them once in Sweden in the 80s. That they just went on is so fkn fantastic, and their live performances are getting better and better. All hearts to them, and RIP Andy, met you once face to face and it's in my diary from way back then.

Great list and so so many more great tunes from this amazing band! Hard to really pick a favorite but as a young man just coming into his own around the age of 22-24(can't remember exactly now that i am closing in on 60...😁) I was struck the first time i heard "Question Of Lust".... I mean i had already fallen in love with Depeche Mode and was obsessed with them, but "Question Of Lust" just sounded so epic the night i heard it in the club. I had the same feeling the first time i heard "How Soon Is Now" in a club setting.... Certain songs just hit certain nerves and emotions inside us...... Incredible band!!
Me and my best friend of 16 years pretty much had a falling out today. So like you’re saying, this song can be interpreted in a few ways. I’ve been listening to it on repeat, and just stumbled across this channel on accident. We’ll be cool but he’s on one right now.
Depeche Mode was head and shoulders above their peers from that musical era and their perseverance serves as a testament. So happy that Dave Gahan overcame his demons and is still with us. RIP Andy Fletcher - another incredible musical talent who died far too young.

I had a copy of Violator that I used to play all the time. I didn’t get to see them in concert until 2005. When you seem live, it’s next level. The connection they have with their fans, the energy, it just sucks you in. Seeing them for the 8th and 9th time in October. Not ruling out rounding that out to 10 this tour.
The "Best Friend" is Heroin. Singer had a well known habit. This song is about getting as high as possible without overdosing, and the temptation to do more and more, chasing that ultimate high, "... remember whose wearing the trousers." The drug becomes the master. Now listen to it again.
I’ve seen Depeche Mide as many times as possible when they come to LA. I believe Dave started the arm swing at the Rose Bowl show in 1988 and it’s become part of the fabric of every live performance of this song. That was my first Depeche Mide show when I was in high school.
Deseche Mode’s music is like poetry… by the way, this song is about his drug addiction. I saw them in concert… I couldn’t speak or move my shoulders the next day from the screaming and arm waiving 😀
Being part of that crowd is a profound experience. You look around you and EVERYONE is waving their arms together. There’s nothing like it. I just hope we get to do this again now Fletch has passed.
The crowd was by far the best I've had the pleasure of being a part of!! I saw them in '05 at Madison Square Garden and was sure that I would be disappointed because the seats were so far from the stage and on the side. Boy, was I wrong!! It was AMAZING and it was partially because of how awesome the crowd was. I just looked out there and every single person was up and dancing. I'll never forget how I felt seeing everyone being so into it. Truly an awesome experience that I'll never forget.
The reason the crowd is singing along to this song is because this is one of their oldest songs, from the 80’s. Back when they did not have an actual drummer.
Lead singer is Dave Gahan. The guitarist, main songwriter, background (sometimes - lead) singer and keyboardist is Martin Gore. Andrew Fletcher (R.I.P.) was their keyboardist and bassist
This is me 14y old in the 80s. And this is me 50y old in 2022 and still this is so friggin good, all of my favourite bands kept going. It must mean they were genuine. Hugs from Sweden.
Having been to 5 Depeche Mode concerts I can absolutely tell you the energy from the show and the energy from the crowd is otherworldly. It’s something you had too see to believe.
The waving hands started on the 101 tour. If you get a moment you should check out that live version. You’ll see EVERYONE at the Rose Bowl waving their hands.
DM usually put in "Never Let Me Down Again" as one of the last tracks on their live performances together with "Enjoy the Silence". I will always love them, and I do wish that if they decide not to continue as DM now after Fletch has passed, then at least they'll give us fans one big farewell tour - if nothing else to honor Fletch!
For months now I’ve been lightly stalking them online Lol, for any signs of an upcoming tour... this isn’t the news I was waiting for. My thoughts exactly. I would also love it if Alan Wilder could join Dave and Martin on a farewell tour if DM does decide to not continue. I’ll also respect their decision if they decide to break up and not do a tour. But it would be nice to honor Andrew Fletcher in that manner.
101 is amazing. Fun fact: Oliver Chesler, one of the club kids who got chosen to join them on the tour, went on to achieve success as techno producer The Horrorist.

I love my metal! And rock bands.. but seriously one of the funnest and awesome shows I’ve been to was Depeche Mode. Ive seen Motley Crue, Roger waters and those are epic shows. But the crowd and everyone is involved in this band show, a beautiful moment,
When I lived in Europe in the 1980s. Depeche Mode hit big in Germany half way through the decade. It took Richard Blade in L.A. in 1988 to really introduce Depeche Mode to the U.S. en masse through radio station KROQ. I was writing friends about DM much before this time. The USA was too fixated on pop music at the time. Michael Jackson who was greatly loved, was extremely popular, esp after Thriller. But, in Europe, DM is what we were being exposed to. Other bands were Talk Talk. This was the British Techno Nu Wave Renaissance. And, it is a breath of fresh air in comparison to the dry, uninspired music coming out of the states at the time. This single was released just before the Music for the Masses album was released back in 1987. It can be classified as post punk synth pop. I recall hearing it on the active headphones at Germany's World of Music in Munich. Music for the Masses and Black Celebration are two excellent listens. Then at record stores you could preview before buying.
Depeche Mode has been my soul connection to music since 1987. It sounds cliché, but their music has gotten me through the darkest periods of my life, and brighten the best. I had a few chances to see them over years but something always happened and I ended not being able to go. It became by #1 bucket list wish. Five years ago was the worst because we were on our way for my birthday and I ended up in the hospital. I thought After Fletch😎💞 died, that would be it. Last year I saw they were coming to San Antonio last month but at the time no where else in Texas. I bought my ticket as my 50th birthday present, drove there, had the MOST INCREDIBLE NIGHT of my life. No one knew. My husband, friends, family, I told no one. It was the best night of my life. When thy did this for one of the encores, we all stood up, sang, waved our arms with Dave--it was an experience I will never have again. Incredible. The whole concert was everything I had waited 36 years for and more.
The arm-waving crowd is an essential part at live shows during this particular song 😁 I was part of it at the Frankfurt/Germany show of their 'Ultra' tour in the late 90's, and it was an amazing experience, too! 😊👍
@@alecmacknight - Yes! That's exactly what it means to represent! 😀👍 And I love that video clip, with Dave driving around in an Isetta and at one point past an accordion-playing Martin 😄
Actually it was from their tour at the Rose Bowl…they started the tour playing small gigs and worked their asses off across the US…. Once they got to LA and San Diego…. They blew up! That’s why they did the Rose Bowl concert ….and It’s an awesome concert to watch… I was there and that’s the first time he did it… he talked about it later… cuz he told Martin..”I don’t know why I did!?!” Lol
@@pammaggio8135 - Yes, I was aware this must've been from an earlier tour 😉 Rose Bowl... So does that mean the audio from this performance is actually what can be heard on DM's '101' live album, Pam? 😃
I hope you’ve already done the studio version of this song! FTLOG don’t listen to a live version if you haven’t heard the studio first. The sound quality is rarely good and many times the performer will change or embellish the song, in which you would never recognize, because you don’t know what the original sounds like. This sound quality is so so but I can pick it out because I know what to listen for because I am familiar with this song. Just a strong suggestion for any reaction you do.
8:50 it is not about religion or realtionship, it is about his heroine addiction at the time he wrote this song. I think his gesture at 3:40 makes that very obvious. The friend, how he want's to never let him down again, is H which dictates his live and is wearing the trousers. The song just discribes a trip.
NLMDA is part of the 5 pack of songs that tend to close the show. You tend to get Just Cant Get Enough. Personal Jesus. Enjoy the Silence. NLMDA and Everything Counts. They swap them a bit when on tour. So some people might not get Just Cant.. But might get Somebody. Or Question of Lust, or Here is the House or something from the vault. I seem to remember someone telling me they got Pipeline in the 21st century. Thats special. 😏 Btw, Never let me down Again is a song about Martin Gore and his drug habit at the time, so not bad for guessing that. Its on the bonus material on the 101 dvd. Heroin i think it said but cant remember. Its been almost 10 years since putting it on. 🤔
Such a good song. Live, 1988, first DM concert with the woman who is now my wife. The bright white floods came on and Dave didn't even sing the chorus, the crowd was loud enough to match the amp stacks. All I ever wanted, all I ever needed.
Same here. I was a big fan of their music, just never went to see any band like this, it was always a rock band I was seeing. I always considered them more Electronica. Didn't know they would put on a show like this!

I've seen Depeche Mode live three times, and it's this exact same energy in the crowd when they play it! It's incredible!
The singing at the end, stars etc, tribute to Soft Cells Torch.
Definitely about drugs. At the 3:40 mark you can see him tapping the inside of his arm just below the bend while singing "safe as houses".
I believe this was live in Paris, the whole concert is on UA-cam it's all a great watch!!
I saw them live in Brisbane Australia…I think it was 1982 or 1983. So glad I got to see them.
The arm-waving crowd is an essential part at live shows during this particular song 😁 I was part of it at the Frankfurt/Germany show of their 'Ultra' tour in the late 90's, and it was an amazing experience, too! 😊👍
i love how it echoes the wind through the corn fields in the music video...
They didn't tour the Ultra album, you might be thinking of the singles 86/98 tour
I love your new intro, thanks for this Jamel
I just sang this at Karaoke today. (And DM is my best voice)
Btw, Never let me down Again is a song about Martin Gore and his drug habit at the time, so not bad for guessing that. Its on the bonus material on the 101 dvd. Heroin i think it said but cant remember. Its been almost 10 years since putting it on. 🤔
Enjoy the Silence
Such a good song.
Live, 1988, first DM concert with the woman who is now my wife. The bright white floods came on and Dave didn't even sing the chorus, the crowd was loud enough to match the amp stacks. All I ever wanted, all I ever needed.
Jamal, you need to go check the Depeche Mode tour movie from 1989 called '101'. You'd dig for sure. 👍🏻
Being a fan since the 80's and after watching this video, I SERIOUSLY regret never seeing them in concert.
Same here. I was a big fan of their music, just never went to see any band like this, it was always a rock band I was seeing. I always considered them more Electronica. Didn't know they would put on a show like this!
Man alive, you sure missed out!
How could you?! I'm not judging cos for me it's the same with Bowie. Let's hope you'll still have the occasion to see the 2 of them..
Maybe they will go back on tour eventually 🥺 I got to see them in '05 and it was one of the best concerts I've been to so they've still got it!
You can usually tell by Dave Gahan's state of dress.... or undress how far into the concert you are.
Fave DM song! I saw them for the first time at 16!
