Hey Chris, hope you're doing well. Just wanted to let something off my chest. No matter how good a phone's software, hardware and cameras are, if the screen is edged I would not get it. I just hate edged screens.
I'm not fond of them either. I have a comparison with the 12T Pro uploading now and the 12T Pro screen isn't quite as bright but it's flat!! And better I feel.

@@SultanDougBob I think the same. Samsung did that, but people bought into it. And I also want these glass rear cases to go. Plastic can be extremely solid, if they don't use the same plastic as used to make yoghurt cups.
A well rounded flagship phone from Moto! It needs a bit of tweaking in the front camera department though. The huge selling points here are that clean UI and the great video out capability! Indeed a very good phone that deserves more attention Chris👌👌
Motorola is my favourite brand. Currently running on G100 and One Zoom. I just love their stock Android experience plus Moto apps. System stays snappy even after 3 years. Not like in Samsungs.

I bought this phone 3 weeks ago and all i can say is I have spent my money well. USD650 for the 512gb variant! Excellent display and build quality, very capable cameras, extremely good battery life and pure stock Android with NO ads unlike other Chinese OEMs.
Have you tried it with a Usb-C to 3.5mm dongle? I'd like to know if wired headphones works befor I buy it. Have heard that it doesn't register a dongle when used 😞

3 Updates BS!!! Motorola Edge 30 Ultra users have been stuck on Android 12 for an entire year, 1 year! That's appalling service for a so called flagship phone that is almost stock Android. Even the cheapest crappiest Motorola phone are running Android 13! And what's more insulting, is the Edge 30 Ultra received the Android 13 update, the same month Google announced Android 14 had finished Beta testing! This obviously means we Moto Edge 30 ultra users will have to wait another year to get Android 14! It's pathetic! What's worse, is that this update does not fix the camera problems, fuzzy images, poor night shots and dust 'dust' getting into the lens (oh yes this flagship phone let's dust in, so don't put it anywhere near water! Check out the Lenovo Motorola online forum, thousands of complaints and people wanting their money back! Do not buy this crappy phone, you will regret it.

Yes, 30 ultra, it's a very good and complete phone, I'm coming from an s22 Ultra, and I don't regret the decision, very good battery, perfect sound, excellent camera, I want to mention that you need to do all the updates before using it ! I also confidently recommend the Edge 20 Pro for those who do not have a large budget! And it has SnapDragon 8Gen1+ Plus (few people know this), it is the latest revised processor much better than Exinos from S22 Ultra (that one got hotter) . And Moto 30 Ultra also comes with a liquid cooling system, this Ultra is successful, in my opinion!
This is the best review so far that I've seen about this phone, I would appreciate if you could keep us updated regarding the video/camera issues and palm rejection issues, hopefully a software update is the only thing that the phone needs to fully exploit its potential

Check your camera lens for dust particles, thousands of users reporting this now, but that's because it takes a while for the dust to get inside the phone (even though it never should). For this reason, keep your phone away from even splashes of water!

Just go onto the Lenovo Motorola forum and read all the complaints about the phone's build quality, the camera issues etc and the latest issue, dust gets into the phone and settles on the camera lens ruining all photos. This also means the phone isn't even splash proof!
A lot of people seem to dislike Motorola cause their software updates. Either the support time is short or they're pretty slow pushing out their updates. But also other brands like Realme and xiaomi can be hit and miss with their updates. Other than that i dont see any problem with their devices.

Hey Chris, I just got a Motorola Edge 40 and I'm quite happy with it. Can't find any complaints so far. Motorola did a great job, and it definitely doesn't get the recognition it deserves.
Any comments on the bluetooth audio quality? This seems to be something most phone reviews always leave out. Apart from that, excellent review of an excellent device.

Hi , excellent review as always. We could literally get every bit of info we need to know about smartphones from your reviews, except one. Flicker rate of these OLED panels. There is a small percent of people like me, who are sensitive to PWM flickering. my eyes strained a lot when i used samsung s22 phones, but not as much when i use iphones.(maybe becaz of high PWM rate , i think). Would love to see that testing added in your reviews.
I'm confused between this phone and s22/s22 plus which should I buy? Or should I wait for s23 series? Does motorola provide good and frequent updates? And I'm not a hard core gamer so with light usage can I expect this phone to last me 4 - 5 years 4 minimum?
Not a bad flagship overall. A few things to improve but everything seems quite good. Too bad the availability is limited compared to the Xiaomi 12T Pro, at least here in South East Asia
Motorola (specially under the Lenovo management) issue was and always is - the software. Bugs all over, which are rarely fixed. The last phone that they really tried to have good HW and less software issues was the RAZR 1, but since then, everything went downwards..
From a real user I have to disagree. Their updates aren't the fastest (compared to the likes of Samsung) but they have given very good updates which introduced lots of new stuff and ironed out a few initial bugs I had. The software has been really stable on the phone I have anyway (edge s). They also explain everything that is being updated on changelogs which is very transparent compared to other brands I am using and have used
I owned this model but had to give it back. The screen was flickering and the UI lagging bad sometimes and basically all the time when in battery save mode. Does someone else have those problems?
I owned the original Edge Plus and pretty much every major phone reviewer failed to report on the huge failure rate of the curved screen on that model. You'll be hard pressed to find a second hand one because so many had the display show smudges. This is why I find it hard to trust Moto, and also phone reviewers because they all basically use phones for a couple of weeks and then forget about them.
Does it come with pre installed screen protector? Or have you tried installing one never owned full edge/ curve display phone any feedback how it fits or feel after installing screen protector? Thanks
@@Techtablets It have very good omnivision sensor like P50 pro with OIS. Can shoot 4k30, 4k60, 8k24. The ultrawide is 13mp with autofocus and can shoot 4k30. The selfie video is 4k30 with EIS. Most of the times make better pictures than Edge 30 Ultra. I think is the best budget flagship killer.
Feel free to disagree with me @techtablets but I think they're closely matched and the biggest choice between them will be your preference in OS with MiUi Vs a more stock android experience
Was the long-press AOD notifications thing mentioned here - I cant quite see. This is one of Motos most best features in the OS - everything else about the OS is irrelevant (imo).
Don't buy this phone until they fix the camera app. Photos are hit and miss. Colours on pics are of a lighter shade. Pro option in the camera app is lacking. Raw images are crap.
I only just bought it last Monday as people asked for my review. Overlooked I'm referring to the general public, I've never once seen a new Motorola phone in the wild, never! People ignore or overlook this brand.
But yes my own Motorola coverage has been nonexistent because they never seem to want to send review units to me. I'm just ignored so this is why I ignored them in return till now.
It’s 4k and looks great you get a menu with the option of clone display or desktop mode. The plan was to have another video with it included but interest in this phone isn’t so great 😢
Motorola's chinese counterparts are much cheaper, get them for review next time as you could save some money for exactly the same phone. For example Moto Edge 30 Ultra is same phone as Moto Edge X30 Pro in China.
Is the curved edge display a problem? Like when the phone falls down on the side, there is high possibility of the whole display itself getting damaged.
It's meant to be a little stronger due to the curve VS flat some say... But it all depends on how it falls what angle it hits etc and from what height.
I've reviewed now a lot of 8+Gen1 phones and no it hasn't still very hot. The best 8+Gen1 phone and 8Gen1 are the fan cooled gaming phones liek the Redmagic 7 Pro. They don't throttle at all this throttles down 40%
Hi. Does a Usb-C to 3.5mm adapter even work on this phone? Very few reviewers test this and some reports on the web says that no adapter works 😢 I know that Samsung has a different setup on their pins in the typ-c port, could it be that Motorola runs the same as samsung?
I used a hub adapter with it from Amazon I think it was but others didn't work. And it did like all my video out adaptors. The one that worked was a Type-C display port to HDMI cable.
I don't understand Motorola 🙄 why the 200mpx. But why not same 50mpx wide ultra wide and good a tele lens 👍. A good phone for the price but now they had the Pixel 7 pro and is better for the same price
Hi there, how do u get the option of changing the resolution of rear camera for Motorola edge 30 ultra. I am not having that option in my phone. Did not get any solution go this. You can only change to 200 mp through ultra resolution only?

honestly I think I'm going for motorola now, xiaomi just lacks with the software, tons of bugs and issues motorola seems better, more expensive, yes, but worth it

If you use a case with this phone like I do, all of the edge issues go away such as the narrow sides and accidental screen touches.

The screen flickers at 720hz. Should be no issue for pwm-sensitive people, who generally cant watch

I used to have Motorola devices but found the company was not very good with updates. And have stayed away from them for that reason.

I only just bought it last Monday as people asked for my review. Overlooked I'm referring to the general public, I've never once seen a new Motorola phone in the wild, never! People ignore or overlook this brand.
But yes my own Motorola coverage has been nonexistent because they never seem to want to send review units to me. I'm just ignored so this is why I ignored them in return till now.

Oh man I wish you had talked about the desktop mode.
It’s 4k and looks great you get a menu with the option of clone display or desktop mode. The plan was to have another video with it included but interest in this phone isn’t so great 😢

Motorola's chinese counterparts are much cheaper, get them for review next time as you could save some money for exactly the same phone. For example Moto Edge 30 Ultra is same phone as Moto Edge X30 Pro in China.
Is the curved edge display a problem? Like when the phone falls down on the side, there is high possibility of the whole display itself getting damaged.
It's meant to be a little stronger due to the curve VS flat some say... But it all depends on how it falls what angle it hits etc and from what height.
No 90 Hz option? Bad new... Great review.

Has the thermals of 8+gen1 improved compared to 888/8gen1?
I've reviewed now a lot of 8+Gen1 phones and no it hasn't still very hot. The best 8+Gen1 phone and 8Gen1 are the fan cooled gaming phones liek the Redmagic 7 Pro. They don't throttle at all this throttles down 40%

Hi. Does a Usb-C to 3.5mm adapter even work on this phone? Very few reviewers test this and some reports on the web says that no adapter works 😢 I know that Samsung has a different setup on their pins in the typ-c port, could it be that Motorola runs the same as samsung?
I used a hub adapter with it from Amazon I think it was but others didn't work. And it did like all my video out adaptors. The one that worked was a Type-C display port to HDMI cable.

Hi there, how do u get the option of changing the resolution of rear camera for Motorola edge 30 ultra. I am not having that option in my phone. Did not get any solution go this. You can only change to 200 mp through ultra resolution only?
Yes I used the Ultra resolution under more modes. It's 200MP
@@Techtablets thanks for the response. But like other phones 30 ultra is not having the options to change the resolution for rear camera. You can only zoom into the frames but cannot take pictures at other resolution values like 48, 32 20 etc.

I personally refused to buy this Motorola model because of the display, everything else is great, that's why I bought a Xiaomi 12 T pro

Those bezels kill the entire design IMO.
But I have a ZTE Axon 40 Ultra, so anything has too big bezels for my by comparation.
Their not that bad come on dude cut Moto some slack we still have brands such as Sony and Asus using bigger bezels than Moto.
Then you should feel nauseous everytime you look at iPhones after using Axon lol
