My installer didn't secure either dongle and didn't mention it. That effectively left an open door onto my network. I spotted it and secured it within a few days, but was surprised to see that the interface showed my home WiFi network details in plain text. Hopefully this, or a future update will improve that security, and GivEnergy will make securing the dongles a requirement to be an official installer.
Frankly I’m very alarmed, from what you say, my network or dongle (wherever that is) may have been left unsecured for 18 months!!! I’ll be calling GE for help on Monday. Thank you for highlighting this, I was just going to ignore it all.
@@ElectricVehicleMan Do we know if it plays nicely with Beamforming with the new firmware? Had to turn it off from my mesh system previously as it kept dropping connection
My system is hard wired because the system couldn’t connect using the WiFi initially. Plus I felt more secure by hard wiring it in, so I have a question do I need to update the firmware of the AIO?
@@John-FourteenSix You don’t need to do anything, it’s just instructions for anyone who needs to update the wifi firmware. If your system is working on wifi with no issue then there’s no need. These instructions apply to any Givenergy inverter.
@@ElectricVehicleMan My “WH Network” has been unsecure since the install 18months ago. Now with new Admin PW! Thank you. My Mac file structure looks different and the “desktop” file does not have a file available for update, so I’ll leave it as it’s all working OK anyway. Thank you again.
@@John-FourteenSix You just need to download the file to your Mac and then upload that file to the dongle in these instructions. But only if you would benefit from this of course.
I find this video confusing! What is the context of this? Is this an update that is going to apply to everyone who has a givenergy system or just in case you are having an issue? I have not received any information in the app about this. Can we have some more information? Also some of the tech in the video will be beyond some people what do they do?
It’s just a support video that walks you through the process of upgrading the firmware if you’re having any issues. If you’re having no issues with wifi then there’s no need to do this but it wouldn’t hurt if you wanted to either.
@@ElectricVehicleMan Hi, thanks for your quick reply, thanks for clarifying the video. Sorry to mess you about, I am subscribed to both your channels and I find them very good. All the best, Jamie
Thanks Andy. Best regards Martin

Same here. Installers don’t understand internet and security. Sadly.

Has there been updates to the firmware to improve stability? Dropouts etc?
Is this applicable/compatable for ALL gen devices?
Applies to all Giv inverters and the gateway. Makes it more compatible with newer standards.

@@christwiseman Try it!
Different manufacturers have different ways of implementing the same protocols so it’s hard to say.

You can but it will have no effect, so I wouldn’t bother.
My panels and battery were installed Monday 4th November, will I need to upgrade the software?
In theory no, the installer should have done it but I can’t say for sure.
So… Is there a firmware update for all GE WiFi devices?
This applies to all.
@@ElectricVehicleMan I’ll be contacting GE on Monday. Much of this makes no sense to me.
