Excellent job of capturing the 70's and 80's Sci-Fi "Vibe" with this build, M8. Excellent job of plating, and bringing the detailing out, with a bit of a wash. Your weathering is subtle, rather than abysmally filthy. Well done!
Very nicely done! When it comes to capturing the "Old School" look-and-feel of Science Fiction spaceships of the late 1970's, you really hit all the high points with this build. Keep up the good work!
I'm just starting out in sci-fi ship scratch building, still got all the Dragon's Dream & Paper Tiger books I bought in my teens & most TTA books. Trained years ago in modelmaking, you've totally inspired me! :D
Did you know Chris Foss who did all those cool spaceships and "the other Chris Foss" who did the illustrations in The Joy Of Sex were ONE AND THE SAME! He did them BOTH!
Man that is fricking cool. If that's not your best creation... I was about to throw out remaining bits and bobs from and old Airfix Folland Gnat kit but now I think I will reconsider...
Cool work, I love these old scifi spaceships. I'm using my 3D printer to make some scifi stuff but I really like the detailing in found objects, especially the BIC razor covers :)
Have owned all three of these books...missing Great Space Battles now. From memory no Chris Foss artwork included in any of them. Look out for '21st Century Foss' which is a beautiful book of Foss' art in the same vein as the TTA books. Love the model. Great video. Thanks.
Am pretty sure those bits at 5:38 which are not remembered at all are from Monogram's 1/32 scale Apollo capsule and service module kit. If I weren't so lazy today I'd go dig mine out of closet in other room to look up what parts are.
OMG I used to borrow these books from the library and stare at the pictures for hours and I was recently trying to and failing to figure out where I could see them again so thank you
Quick note: you can find his paintings via a Google Search for "Chris Foss Pictures" and there a quite a few images there. Always loved his work. Great idea of using his work as inspiration. Thanks!
Ok, it's black and yellow. Other than that I don't see any resemblance to Foss' designs. This is a flat sided slab. Most of his designs were rounded with variations in surface (bulges, projections, etc).
That's impressive: nice one. I think the hexagon on top of the engine section is the base of the launcher from the Airfix Bloodhound missile: used a few myself... ;-) My freind Ron did models of the Stingray and Hornet (2nd pic at the start) from the first TTA book. He's currently working on the Shark. Details here : www.whatifmodelers.com/index.php/topic,30323.0.html (you need to register to see pics but it's free and well worth it)

Impressive bit of scratch building. Bravo!

Ah yes, the Sklathil...I think that a lot of the design concepts of that book and the other one informed the game Homeworld.
Love your paneling I think it gives it a grungy lived in feel
a movie has got to be made with the full foss craft designs!!!
I loved Foss's colour schemes and pattern work on his ships.
This video has really helped me out. I'm doing a plasticard constructed ship for the first time. Will have to track down some of those Terran books.

This ship is coo
my god you did a good job on that yellow ship that needs to be in a sci fi movie
looks awesome!!!!!!
Man, this seems to be reminiscent of "District 9" designs, long before the movie release. COOL.
What a great design, love it!
i love foss' artwork, and IM sure he would love to see your ship that perfectly captures his awe inspiring art

Mate that's well good!
Your imagination and vision is impressive!

3:51 that part is cool as fuck, like sensors and cameras, looks really good.

This is really great work! Inspiring me to do more kitbash videos :)
Bic razor covers are excellent pieces for scratch

love the details of the ship.
OMG I used to borrow these books from the library and stare at the pictures for hours and I was recently trying to and failing to figure out where I could see them again so thank you
Me too, used to sit in the school library for hours looking at the books. Fond memories of those days
Proud owner of all three TTA handooks since the 70s :-)
Ta very much - good luck with your build!
I really love this ship !!
You just inspired me!!!!!
Great to hear!

I have a hardback book of his work - "HARDWARE - the Definitive SF Works of Chris Foss".
Cool .needs space star background
Some angles make it look like the shape of a Warframe Corpus helmet
only problem with this video is we never get to see a pull back shot showing the ENTIRE MODEL! aaggghhhh!!
Sorry Mark - too blummin big to get it all in! Maybe, if i have it at a show, i'll do a video of it
I have 2 of those books
The Proximan Shark !!!!!!
👽💚
Great ship. What's the scale?
Yes, he did some of the original concept art for the preproduction of ALIEN
Hahahaaa... I'm currently building a Starfury kit and when I saw the engine section I almost jump off the chair.
One can also use old computer parts?
Could I pay you for a custom build?
