Woohoo! Glad you appreciated it, I The deeper I get into this hobby, the more I learn about the dozens, if not hundreds of people whose work on films is seen but not widely credited, or just as often simply not seen at all. Love the chunky imperial speeder from Solo, btw, might be one of my favorite speeder designs in SW.
Takes me back to the 80s when I was super into scratch building. Starting with a WWI french tank to Star Wars ATAT Walker then to my own designs; kit bashing using a lath and building my own vacuum former. Tamiya tank parts were the best. It's cool that the end result might look like the star wars model but has the personal touch from choices in the kit parts used. I see nothing wrong with using a 3d printer as long as it is used to make parts not whole models. Cheers!
Every video you make pushes me closer and closer to trying this out for myself. I genuinely think that you should have a job at ILM, but at least make more Star Wars builds. This is incredible!
The arrestor in Andor just looked amazing 😍. It perfectly captured that 70s, tactile radar dish aesthetic that I can't quite describe. It just felt more Star Wars. Lots of first order ships looked liked shit imo.
I went off to look at the first order designs again because I remembered thinking that one with the big cannon in the beginning of ep. 8 was cool, but yeah they're all pretty shit compared to this and all the other movie star destroyer designs. That "Mandator IV Class Star Dreadnought" has an interesting shape for the bridge tower but it just looks like a big, perfectly smoothed pizza slice + without any funky features on the hammerhead tower it seems a bit silly to have such a massive thing elevated above the rest of the ship. The others are just kinda marvel movie looking, uninspired meh. I do quite like the new republic ships in ahsoka and the general design language they've developed for the new republic. It's maybe a little too clean and tidy with the white interiors but definitely looks like if the rebellion of the original trilogy turned into a galactic government.
Thoroughly enjoyed this video, very nice to see grassroots real scratch building taking place, it's so satisfying to see and hear that snap of styrene.
This is an amazing build and a wonderful channel! So glad I could get in on the ground floor so to speak before it blows up, as I truly hope it does. You deserve every success - fantastic work!
Love this. 🚀 Especially choosing a ship that has been featured in popular media but isn't readily available as a kit. This is some serious inspiration for people to try scratch-building their own favorites. Thank you!
Absolutely brilliant! You've put in so much detail and thought for the source material, and then brought it up a notch by giving it some of your own personal style. I love your ship scratch-builds, and in my opinion this is your best so far. Bravo!
I've just been directed to watch this build & glad I did!. Nice model indeed, with tidy styrene work, great choices of donor kit parts & details. Thoroughly enjoyed!.
Glad I could show you something new! Aztecing takes kind of a delicate touch to keep it from being too overwhelming but when it works it really adds a lot.
M.A.S.K. - for your next project. look for it...its beneath a large oak tree in a wheat field in buxton, under a large volcanic glass rock...there's something i want u make...you'll have to dig it up to find out
Very good work and the time you spent on it pays off. This model shows that you 've grown up in terms of building quality, in comparison with your older ones. You could skip the "aztec" method with tape and use filters on panels to make them stand out.
I just had your channel pop up on my feed. You've got serious talent. As yet I've only watched two videos and you've given me ideas for projects. I've never heard of Aztecing before, but it's one of the little details on ships I've always loved. You've got a fan. Subbed and bell rang.
Fantastic build of a great ship and a reminder of one of Andor's best scenes. I really enjoyed watching how you brought this all together and your commentary, both written and verbal answered a number of questions I had. Thanks for this!
Outstanding work, and inspirational! Building like this can be so satisfying, far more so than what I personally think is an over-reliance on 3D printing these days.
3D printing can be a huge asset, but I like to think of it as a tool in the toolbox rather than the one and only solution. I was seriously considering printing the dishes before I found something that worked.
Ship modellers scare me. Like holy crap ONE of those side panels probably involves twice as much gluing than an entire 2000pt Warhammer army. The finished model looks incredible, you could tell me that it was one of the props used to film the original movies and I wouldn't question it. 10:50 lol it's almost like it's designed for you to put paint in it without sticking.
Nice! I love the way you made the antennas. Have you ever tried "Aztecking" individual panels, rather than randomly chosen areas? I think this would highlight the panel detail.
I've been watching your videos for quite some time now and this longer format and more ambitious build was definitely a joy to watch. It's impressive how you've upped your game in terms of greebling, you're nailing the scale on that conn tower. Without giving the exact references, what were the kits you used? I thought I recognized some 1/72 WWII train parts but did you use 1/700 battleships as well? Cheers!
Amazing build and it looks so epic. I would love to know what you thought of the pirate ship The Eclipse from season 3 of The Mandalorian. I think it was heavily inspired by those 70s spaceships by Chris Foss.
GREAT JOB!! I like your aztecing, it adds an extra level of detailing. What was the used ship model you used? Also a suggestion if you have a model railroad store near you check out the parts by detail associates they have diesel ventilator fans that are GREAT for the interiors of thrust nozzels and freight car brake kits which include small pressure tanks and valves. These are relatively inexpensive around 1 to 5 dollars. I use these combined with other greeblies. It gives you an extra level of detail.
Great work! I just ran across this video. I wish there were more like it. Can you do a video on what type of equipment and tools you use for building models? Thanks!
My “how to” videos go into a lot more detail about the tools and techniques. This one is a good place to start: ua-cam.com/video/jppk6YGK7_Q/v-deo.htmlsi=hAttJmOc4rGc7X3A
I’ve done lighting on past projects, but that was years ago, before I started filming my builds. I’ve been thinking about including it in an upcoming video, though…
I love watching you make such amazing models from scratch, its an amazing skill, I would love to pick your brains a little and get your thoughts on a project I hope to begin that is in part inspired by you if I may?
I’ve looked into it, but they’ve always struck me as a bit heavy duty compared to the amount of cutting I actually need to do. If I wanted to make like, a bunch of copies of one model, for some reason, then I might have to consider getting one.
This was a roughly 3 month project, from the beginning of planning to uploadIng the video. That said it was a lot of on and off work, so in terms of actual man hours I have no idea.
I don’t think there’s a huge difference in quality or formulation between different brands of CA glue, so far as I’ve noticed. I usually get gorilla brand, but that’s just because it’s what I can find in stores near me. That said, you CAN get different viscosities. I’ve used the gel thickness kind sometimes, but I find it dries much slower than I’d like, and at some point I want to pick up a bottle of the water-thin stuff.
As it stands, I only plan on releasing templates for models that are my own original design. Copyright issues aside, turning my initial plans into something presentable is a lot of work! I often need to do a lot of editing and adjusting even after the first few pieces are cut out.
The focus work looks sloppy for the beauty shots: you might have better success taking the pictures from further away, which widens the focused area and makes hand jiggle less of a problem.
HEPA filter meant for an air purifier and the cheapest bathroom fan the hardware store sold. All and all, I built the thing for under $100, but it is also jank as hell and held together with duct tape and the will of the Force.
I’ve watched many different channels before I found your builds and so far this is the most cleanest job I’ve seen! My aesthetic! Also in comparison to others yours seem easier to build! And kudos for using supports while assembling large parts.
These limited resources projects are always so ridiculously cool.
Thanks for the shout out. Had great fun building the concept model on solo

Go for it! I honestly found it to be a pretty low barrier to entry, just plastic and glue, really.
Never stop doing what you do, truly awesome stuff. Inspiring.
you should make one that can cut open and show the inside of the ship, the cargo hold, the engine, the bridge, the bunks, etc
The arrestor in Andor just looked amazing 😍. It perfectly captured that 70s, tactile radar dish aesthetic that I can't quite describe. It just felt more Star Wars. Lots of first order ships looked liked shit imo.

Excited to see those plastic forks and spoons make an appearance in a future build
Don’t be absurd, those are for eating with
I'm very much hoping you're putting the final touches on a certain haulcraft by Fondor.😊
Me too
Thoroughly enjoyed this video, very nice to see grassroots real scratch building taking place, it's so satisfying to see and hear that snap of styrene.

Nice Model - good music
FAN-FLIPPIN-TASTIC......
Love this. 🚀
Especially choosing a ship that has been featured in popular media but isn't readily available as a kit.
This is some serious inspiration for people to try scratch-building their own favorites.
Thank you!
One thing I'm surprised you never do is put some bolts inside for long term rigidity and to have a strong mounting point for bases
Yesss, I’ve been waiting for your next video!
This one’s been in the works for a while lol. I’m glad it’s finally out!
I was just thinking this morning: I wonder if Sublight Drive has a new video?
Glorious
your videos are slept on! like others say you have a nice balance of talking and just building, good pacing
Absolutely brilliant! You've put in so much detail and thought for the source material, and then brought it up a notch by giving it some of your own personal style. I love your ship scratch-builds, and in my opinion this is your best so far. Bravo!

Hey I just found your channel and I hope it keeps growing your content is awesome!
Oh man what a wonderful ship. Adam savage would geek out on this.
I like all of the ships you have built but I have to say this is one of your best models! Everything about it is great. Thanks for sharing this.
Freaking awesome. Stellar work.
Wow that is stunning I want one lol.
This was stellar (puns!) Loved the history at the intro and learned a new technique (aztecing). All around amazing build!
Glad I could show you something new! Aztecing takes kind of a delicate touch to keep it from being too overwhelming but when it works it really adds a lot.
Studio quality work demonstrated here!
The best scratch building I've ever seen . Super neat. Bravo!
Amazing build. Can’t believe from scratch and looks so perfect. EC Henry is an amazing channel too
Keep up the amazing work!
This was beautiful. I gasped a couple of times. Well done.
Incredible work. Love the homemade spray booth as well.
Thanks! I’ve been thinking I need to get a proper booth for a while, but the one I have keeps working just fine, so
dude your channel is so relaxing to watch
M.A.S.K. - for your next project. look for it...its beneath a large oak tree in a wheat field in buxton, under a large volcanic glass rock...there's something i want u make...you'll have to dig it up to find out

That's an incredible build. Spectacular but so simple with the styrene and found parts 👍
This is an excellent build, so old school and crunchy. Love it!!
Fantastic build of a great ship and a reminder of one of Andor's best scenes. I really enjoyed watching how you brought this all together and your commentary, both written and verbal answered a number of questions I had. Thanks for this!

Excellent !!!
what an amazing build!!
Godlike skills! So cool! 🎉
Nice!
Amazing work!
Very well done and great video. I hope this gets more people into scratchbuilding. It's one of the most fun things in model building!
Agreed! I got into this hobby from watching youtube videos, and I really hope I can convince other people to try it out, too.
I’m impressed with your skill and talent - just amazing!
This looks GORGEOUS! Well done!
ANOTHER EXCELLENT BUILD!!!
This was a great build.
FUCKING HELL THATS AMAZING!
Looks incredible! Love watching you build!!! 😊
Wow! This turned out really good!
Truly gifted, thank you
another great one, Sublight!
Nice! I love the way you made the antennas. Have you ever tried "Aztecking" individual panels, rather than randomly chosen areas? I think this would highlight the panel detail.
Scratch building is the best!
agreed

No train parts, but lots and lots of ship parts. Other than that, most of the pieces were from WWII era car kits.
just an absolutely gorgeous build, super inspiring!
Great work. The ship looks awesome.
truly your best work yet! well worth the wait! :)
That came out fantastic!
For the algorithm. Fantastic work!

Love it!!! Details, Details, Details!! ❤👍 Have you every lighted one of you builds? Thanks
Sure, I suppose. I’m a little easier to get ahold of on either Twitter or Instagram.
Thanks I dropped you a dm on twitter
Another amazing project, you should really do Warhammer ships too or units? They are pretty cool and have very cool yet finiky details
Great video, and I love the subject. Will you be adding the templates to your Etsy page for purchase?
Very impressive work! Have you looked into getting a plot cutter for offloading the cutting to, since you make templates anyways?
I’ve looked into it, but they’ve always struck me as a bit heavy duty compared to the amount of cutting I actually need to do. If I wanted to make like, a bunch of copies of one model, for some reason, then I might have to consider getting one.
Do you remember which ship model kit this was?
A JMSDF ship kit? What scale was it, and do you recall the model kit company?
amazing that this is how we faked the moon landing! serious skills!
Thanks! I hope to be a part of a government conspiracy one day. Just gotta keep on grinding till I get there!
Nice build! Any chance you can name the model kits you used? I'm always looking for kits with tiny greeblies.
How about a plan for the basic shapes of THIS ship? Sans greeblies, "engines" and pan lids, of course. I'd pay 15 or 20 bucks for the files...
For now, the only templates I’m gonna put up are for the ships I designed myself. I’m not looking to get in hot water re: trademarks or what have you.
Do you have the blueprints of this ship? It's fantastic 👍
love the build! can you tell me how long this took you to complete it! I have started building from scratch and would love feedback!
This was a roughly 3 month project, from the beginning of planning to uploadIng the video. That said it was a lot of on and off work, so in terms of actual man hours I have no idea.
I see you struggle with finding material for the dishes to. 😅
What sort of brush is it you are using for the weld on... any brush ive tried ends up looking like a palm tree after a day
Anybody in Germany knowing where to get Weld On 3?
How do you figure out the scale and shapes for models like these?
Have you ever been to Wonderfest?
Nope. They got a model show there?
@Sublight_Drive yes a really nice one for sci-fi,horror and some other categories.
Curious what glue you are using - I’ve been using off the shelf superglue
I don’t think there’s a huge difference in quality or formulation between different brands of CA glue, so far as I’ve noticed. I usually get gorilla brand, but that’s just because it’s what I can find in stores near me.
That said, you CAN get different viscosities. I’ve used the gel thickness kind sometimes, but I find it dries much slower than I’d like, and at some point I want to pick up a bottle of the water-thin stuff.
Hi bro
May I ask what thickness material you are using?
I prefer to use a mix of .020” (.5mm) and .040 (1mm) styrene.
@@Sublight_Drive and how do i buy your templates if you have them?
DO U HAVE PLANES FOR THIS
As it stands, I only plan on releasing templates for models that are my own original design. Copyright issues aside, turning my initial plans into something presentable is a lot of work! I often need to do a lot of editing and adjusting even after the first few pieces are cut out.
love the work just hope the channel doesn't become a Star Wars nonstop propaganda machine
/r/EmpireDidNothingWrong
The focus work looks sloppy for the beauty shots: you might have better success taking the pictures from further away, which widens the focused area and makes hand jiggle less of a problem.
emmmmmmmmm scratch?
Very nice! What do you use as a ventilator in your spraybooth?
HEPA filter meant for an air purifier and the cheapest bathroom fan the hardware store sold. All and all, I built the thing for under $100, but it is also jank as hell and held together with duct tape and the will of the Force.
Bonito bonito y rebonito🎉
You make it look so easy. I am never able to get clean cuts from styrene stock.
I’ve watched many different channels before I found your builds and so far this is the most cleanest job I’ve seen! My aesthetic! Also in comparison to others yours seem easier to build! And kudos for using supports while assembling large parts.
Amazing build!
The miniature is cool but , It was the worst possible spacecraft to ever be conceived of for Andor. The empire cannot think creatively.
