Key word is wanted. Ukraine is not part of NATO. If it is, we would all be in WW3.
It's NATO rules that state a country can not join NATO while engaged in a war or territorial disputes . Putin used that to stop Ukraine's membership from going through by stirring up the separatists and starting a war .
All that NATOS dumb rules have achieved is that now they will one day have to fight Russia closer to home on the Polish or Baltic states borders . Is it not better for the EU and NATO to fight Russian in Ukraine rather than in the EU states at some later point when who knows NATO may be weaker ? If the US left NATO then Europe is much weaker .

Sanctions do not work but neither does sending in militry. If America sends in militry Russia Putin will send back a nucler bomb!!! If Italy and Germany are so economically tied to Russia (as they have admitted with not being willing to authorize certain sanctions against Russia), Ukrainian Zelensky made a FATAL MISTAKE in believing that they would admit Ukraine to NATO. That is why NATO held off on making the decision for over 2 years. Zelensky upset Russia for nothing.

Monetary greed and poor budgeting priorities has led to most of the NATO militaries to be very low in numbers and weak. Their resolve is weak as well. The main reason for Russia to invade Ukraine is that Russia is very concernin about its "National Security" and wants Ukraine remains as a "nuetral" country.
