Great work sir avid follower Stopped drinking 3years ago not because I "had to "but as a lifestyle choice Now I drink only zero alcohol Guinness for the antioxidants and never felt better The 50mls a week on the bike and very healthy eating combine to make me feel better than ever done This is 12yrs down from stents 😊😊
It blows my mind to hear some of my aquantainaces talk like they think 10-15 drinks is fun and normal. My heart goes out to anyone who struggles with alcohol.
30 days ago my husband suffered a heart attack. I saw him suffer the awful pain, fall to teh floor, and turn purple. At 68, I was not strong enough to turn the 250 lb man over from face to back, but somehow I did it. Then I worked like holy blazes to force his heart to pump until the emergency services arrived at our home. He did not recover and his life was ended. He had an alcohol habit for the 45 years we were married. I am heart broken at the loss of my life mate. He paid for his alcohol consumption with perhaps 20 years of life. What a cost for myself and our four children left to mourn him.
I had this exact problem. My heart was extremely enlarged and my EF below 20. I was drinking huge amounts for years, I was a publican by trade. I was hospitalised, and put on medication. Luckily I was able to completely stop drinking, this was in 2002. I was reasonably well, have permanent AF but didn't limit me. However in 2011 needed an atrial valve replacement, and had a mechanical one put in. I exercise every day and eat pretty perfectly and my heart EF is now around 55 and I've felt great for a long time. I'm in my 70's and my cardiologist says my heart is functioning 'like a fit young man' and of normal size, which he seemed surprised at. 😄. I never realised back in my younger days that drinking could be so health hazardous, just thought dodgy liver if unlucky. Don't drink. I don't miss it at all, quite the opposite.

Since I stopped drinking alcohol about 2 years ago, I’ve seen dramatic improvements in my fitness and overall wellbeing. It’s the way to go, together with smaller food portions, mainly plant based.
I’ve definitely seen a difference when I eat smaller meals but more nutrient dense foods I don’t find meat a problem. But obviously not too much of it. Sugar and processed foods and smaller carbs/ starches. Seems to be a game changer for me. Obviously not do away with carbs completely. But eating good quality pasta with homemade sauces or even a pizza with sourdough bread gives me that life quality of the pleasure I get from food.
Excellent explanation, thanks. Dr Robert Lustig has interesting things to say regarding the damaging effects of sugars / carbohydrates particularly on our Liver. Alcoholic drinks are also often high in carbs...so this combined with the Ethanol is a bad combination...sadly!
I think people jump to extremes due to fear, I agree, there is a short documentary about an island in Greece where people have the highest life expectancy in the world - and they drink a few glasses of home-made wine every day! The key is having low stress, and letting go of negative emotions. Also sports/diet and deep connections with other people help tremendously. If anyone is struggling with any form of negativity in their life, I highly recommend the book "Letting go: the pathway of surrender", it teaches a technique to let go of negative emotions and elaborates on how that improves various areas of a person's life - from health, to relationships to worldly success.
My nephew just died of this very young because of excessive drinking! Laughing as you say, yes, he died Happy! Foaming at the mouth/ seizure and heart attack‼️⚖️
I have tachycardia induced Cardiomyopathy because of uncontrolled Atrial fibrillation Which I believe was caused by alcoholic binges sometimes lasting five days without sobering up i am on medication but I still drink
Hi Dr Gupta, would love an updated video on Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy and the latest new treatments like Mavacamten and soon to release Aficamten. Prognosis and outlook for obstructive and non-obstructive types. Newly diagnosed with HCM and stage 3 heart failure and looking for the latest treatments and straight talking about life expectancy.
Do you know why alcohol causes racing heart, or if this is normal? For me, when I have some beers (3-5 12oz, 4-5% alcohol), my heart races, sometimes over 100 bpm. Thanks
when i was 14, i drank a bottle of whiskey in a few minutes. I blacked out and woke up in bed the next morning. I was so sick. All day i threw up anything i tried to eat or drink and my heart was pounding all day. My heart pounded so hard that when i laid on the bed, the bed would shake. It was late in the evening before i could keep anything down and my heart stopped pounding. I should have been in a hospital. Wonder i didnt died from it.
Can you please do an update on the latest blood pressure guidelines? I’ve seen a lot on UA-cam re the clear benefits of being under 120/80, but that’s hard to achieve without medication?
Sorry hearing about making mice binge drink to help with the health of humans is sick. And humans think that they are smarter than animals 🙄. P.S love your channel.

Thank you Doctor. I have been following your excellent advice for a few years.

Smaller portions is what I struggle with. I like to eat big meals and I eat fast.

Stopped drinking in 1984. Developed afib 10 years ago. Had an ablation last May 2024. I have too many stress inducing people in my life.
How is it after the ablation? Did you have any more recurrence? Do you feel weaker?

Moderation. I've had two drinks a day for 20 years. I'm 52. I'm in great shape and just had a normal echocardiogram. I enjoy food beer and wine.

If everyone stopped drinking alcohol, just think of all the people put out of business and the improvement to people's health worldwide.
Alcohol is out of my lifestyle so it's of no concern for me Doc!!! Great info though!

Hi boss. Can cardiomyopathy also lead or contribute towards peripheral neuropathy esp in feet and legs?
It's the big one, Wheezy!
Also heavy drug users.. tawny kitaen recently died with cardiomyopathy and pulmonary edema
A few beers a day, or glasses of wine, is very good. Too much is not.
Sounds like irony. That is a lot
All alcohol is poison and should not be in anybody's diet at all including wine. Depends how long you want to live.
Actually, it's not. Alcohol is essentially poison, while small amounts won't hurt you, no amount will help you.,
Life without some stiff drinks would be boring, moderation is key, it’s observed in nature as well.
I rarely drink, but life is NOT boring without alcohol 😊
@@madamecuriousDrinking has never been my thing. I average around two drinks a month down from four and I'm trying to cut that to zero.
