    There are those of us who have known for decades that Roy Wood is a genuine musical genius and there are many others who are having the pleasure of discovering his brilliance for the first time.

    Roy deserved the same success as Jeff Lynne. ELO was the brainchild of Roy Wood but he didn’t benefit from it much. He’s not bitter though, fair play to him. I met him once in a club on a promo night for a Rick Wakeman album and he was a real genuine humble guy.

    • @rojavida
      @rojavida 3 місяці тому

      There’s a very good reason for that. The success of ELO was built on the quality of the songs that Jeff wrote. Nothing else. Roy is super talented and deserves the success he got. If Jeff had more success it’s because he deserved it.

    Such an underrated talent, 1st discovered Roy Wood with ELO back in the 90's with the song 10538 Overture & loved it on ELO box sets & compilations, then purchased ELO's 1st album & after that a Move compilation, which had their 60's hits along with their heavy awesome experimental rock & then purchased an import solo album titled boulders & I loved it! Never got into Wizzard. He is one of a kind & his music I mentioned above is so cool & timeless

    The Move were one of the most exciting and - like the Small Faces and The Beatles - musically diverse and unpredictable of the top 60s British bands. Even now, listening to 'I Can Hear the Grass Grow' or the live version of 'So You Want to Be a Rock 'n' Roll Star' (originally on the 'Something Else' (Live at the Marquee EP) is as exciting and inspiring as ever. Roy Wood has always had my respect.

      Wayne Blanchard Synchronicity. As a punk I recently heard I can hear the grass grow for the first time. Talk about ahead of its time. I have listened to other songs by a The Move and many a bit twee for me like Blackberry Way but I can hear the grass grow with rapid snare and tom rolls, the heavy flams by Bev Bevan has that simple . Great mini vocal by a chap who looks like a mad monk on bass too. Sounds like it is in E too and that is Motörhead territory.

    I am an American. Arrived in England in Sept of "66. Actually, .as it happens, 2 days before Jimi did. Who knew?
    Anyway... We had a band at my school and THE MOVE were among my favourite groups. I am so happy to see this and so proud for Roy that he was inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame for forming ELO. I have the first ELO album which most people have never heard and I had it when it was released.I just want to say to Roy, THANKS FOR THE MUSIC. I still love it. Because he is such a multi-intstrumentalist I always thought of him as the Frank Zappa of the UK, which is not really fare to either one of them but that was how I saw him. May you fare thee well. I still love all of it. If there is a Rock N Roll Heaven, may we all meet again.

    I would love to delve into my favourite song by The Move...Blackberry Way, chat with Roy and learn what inspired him to create that masterpiece. As I boy of 13 when I bought the “single” I was too engrossed by the music of this song and the instrumentation. Not until many years later when I added this to my repertoire of songs including lyrics (and chords where possible) did I discover the lyrics...especially the second verse! Till then most of it was gibberish...but it all makes sense now!

I first met him when working with a support band at The California Ballroom Dunstable back in the late 60's and seem to remember the band downing tools halfway through their set to watch Match of the Day when Birmingham City were the main match on the highlight show. Incidentally, I have been a fan of Mike Oldfield for over 35 years and suddenly realized the quick guitar melody Roy plays at (2:16) is Wonderful Land...
