The defender is probably still asking himself if someone pulled a magic trick on him.

Best thing Berti Vogts has ever done was bringing Klinsmann in to take over the German football team in 2004. Klinsi hasn't enjoyed much of a career as a coach, but he was exactly the right person for the right job in 2004 to bring German football into the 21st century.
He was simply not that technically adept at static situations, and he had a great many of them during his Bayern and Nationalmannschaft spells - therefore he was called "Flipper".
