How to setup a vinyl turntable

Hey there I'm kinda a noob when it comes to turntable and audio but I ordered a Pyle turntable that doesn't have a built in preamp so I ordered along with it but I was looking at my receiver which is an older like early 90s technics I don't have the model # on me but it has a place for a ground wire and I was wondering if I even need the preamp that I ordered I'll keep it anyway cause I got a deal on it for 20 bucks and I may infant need it later on say my receiver blows up and I need a new one
