I used to hold the high score for all routes at our local arcade 20+ yrs ago. Miss this game a lot. I can't even remember routes/the specific beam spots I used to use for the high scores but enjoyed your scoring video. I remember though that I sometimes mess up at absolute defender and ruined the run. Brought back fond memories. Question. Was the life loss at GT intentional or accidental? I remembered you got quite a bit of points per life remaining at the end of the game. *Watching the ending of your video reminded me that my best run was somewhere over the 50m mark as well. I recall only GT could score over that. Also that eventhough I was a pretty fast tapper max counter w fire fossile was impossible for me to pull off consistently.
Yeah, the death is intentional to refill the capture balls. The score you can get out of the extra beam attacks from them greatly outweighs the life bonus. Now's a great time to play this again though! The PS4/Switch/PC version is excellent, and it goes on sale pretty often I think.
@@iconoclast575 I don't have the patience to milk. I know scoring is what attracts some, but I'm the type of player to 1LC *_AND_* get Gold Hawk on the technical ranking, and if not, then place in Silver or Iron. My average is within Silver, and I've studied the Omicron route to 1LC fairly consistently.
I'd definitely like to try it out some time. I'm so far behind on the Ninja Gaiden stuff I want to do though, it'll probably be a *while* before I get to it. It's a pretty interesting mod though.
@@iconoclast575 of course, no pressure dude!. I was just thinking about it cause I was watching some videos of the mod and realized that as far as I can see there is no playlist of the full game in the master or ultimate ninja difficulty and remembered your videos were amazing!. Thanks for the answer!
Had the original, and this is a solid upgrade. I had no idea about the special moveset for the captions. The side graphs are actually helpful here. Super cool!
Captains in this seem a lot more useful here than in Gaiden. I was under the impression that captured ships had a lot less durability than they actually do, which is probably why I struggle so much in this game.
Great replay! G Darius is a great shmup because of the capture system as you can use the captured enemy ships as several offence skills such as the Alpha beam or as a bomb or as a temporary shield and tank against heavy fire! The gadget feature there is the best as it can show the captured ship's durability before being destroyed! Although the Zones are short (1 Stage with 2 branching areas to choose from), there are a lot of possible combinations in clearing the game based on either score or survival! E.g. the first stage, Area A has less on power ups but more on scoring due to the captain capture that can be used for the rest of the stage and for the boss whereas Area B focuses on powering up quickly with getting the Twin bomb upgrade easily while sacrificing the scoring potential since there is no captain capture there. And of course, you can never have a Darius game without the hardest boss in arcade history, Great Thing (except a few other bosses in Darius Burst Chronicle Saviors)! Finally, what is the Yazuka there in the Darius series?
Thanks! The Yakuza are just little cubes that come in to harass you when you take too long on bosses. I don't know how they work in this game tbh, but you'll see them in the really high scoring runs in the original Darius, at least. Boss milking is off the charts in that game.
Huh... there is an HD version of this gem? Never knew!
the second "round" of G.T (after he fires off first alpha beam) looks like it would take my entire life to learn, looks really stressful
I spent more time practicing G.T. than everything before it combined. He's one of the most fun bosses in any shmup I've played.
This game has the most dread inspiring soundtrack out of any shmup I've ever played. Congratulations on the amazing clear!
the starting point of the DCU (Darius Cinematic Universe)...! 👏
Great Thing is so insane of a boss. Darius never disappoints in how unrelenting they make them.

Fantastic run. GG! Any reason to choose 2P other than for style?
Thanks. Bosses have more health when you choose 2P, I forgot to mention that in the description. It's mainly useful for scoring on Great Thing.
wait so instead of checking how many players are up they just check for p2? incredible
iconoclast, have you thought about playing ninja gaiden sigma 2 with the "ninja gaiden sigma 2 black" mod installed?
I'd definitely like to try it out some time. I'm so far behind on the Ninja Gaiden stuff I want to do though, it'll probably be a *while* before I get to it. It's a pretty interesting mod though.

Porque enrolou tanto para derrotar o G.T?
Tirando esse detalhe... otimo jogo!!
I try to maximize score on G.T. He's worth a ton of points.
This and Rayforce started my love of Taito shmups. Loved the presentation and especially the music
Honestly, I don't think even Dariusburst is a ridiculous as this game. You really make it kook easy.
I Actually Tried Beating Your Score With Cheats lol(I Got Like Over 30000000 Points)

How Did You Use Player 2 Individually?

you can unleash special moves to the captains, some of them are very useful to take out foes more quickly
Here we go!

Yeah, I'm not sure about DB CS having harder bosses, or maybe it's just me.
16:55 Anyone know the name of this battleship?
The name IS in the corner. Did you intend to ask what its sealife basis is?
Very interesting enemy and area designs.
Blast from the past, my childhood has flashed right before my eyes. Loved this game, and still do.
