I like the duscussion about "making room for Jesus." For many years I was "too busy" to go to church. But I noticed that when I returned to church, God helped me prioritize and I was less stressed, even when everything didn't get done. He showed me what's important and what I can "let go" of. It's teaching me to surrender, to rely on God, and to trust where He takes me.
@End Time Deceptions Decoded. You need more education in regards to the true Catholic Faith. Read the gospel and pray to God to give you the grace of truth and light. Scott Hahn's books will dispel a lot of misinformation.
Always has a great way of bringing it together at the end. Saying " no" more to the earthly things and things of the flesh, only to say "yes" to what is unseen and eternal. Love it still in 2021.
I have been a Catholic since I was a little girl.....and I did not know much about my religion growing up. But now....I'm learning so much. I'm so in Love with my JESUS . HE is my firm foundation in my world. I could not make it through an hour without my SAVIOUR .Thank you Father S for all your helpful videos...GOD Almighty bless your soul...Have a Blessed CHRISTMAS everyone.
i was in the mass today and im new in the church, just this year i started to go to the church every sunday, im still learning many things.. i didnt know what advent means, i love jesus so much and i want to understand how to use this month , i love it when u said , say more no to say more yes. Thank u so so much Father mike i really needed this video. God bless u
For several months I've had the most tough time in my life and for now this advent brings me more and more suffering. I try so hard to pray and submit to God's will. Please, if you can pray for me, I'd be most grateful, without it I'm so, so weak. And thank you Fr Mike for your teachings, it helps me a lot.
"Advent is a devout and joyful preparation for the coming of Jesus." This is so perfect. Thank you for this video! I really want to revamp my outlook on advent this year!
The Father and the Son are the Parents of the Holy Spirit, if many churches are correct. The Trinity is a Family-- two Parents and a Progeny, if many churches are correct. In the Book of Job which is part of the bible, the Lord is compared to a father and also a mother with a womb. "From whose womb comes the ice? Who gives birth to the frost from the heavens"--Job 38:29. Saying that the "Father and the Son are the Parents of the Holy Spirit" is simply another way of saying that the Holy Spirit "proceeds from the Father and the Son" which has been official Catholic Church teaching for centuries. According to the Catholic Church, the Son is begotten from the Father. If this is true, the Father is the Father (Parent) of the Son. According to the Church, the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father and the Son.If this is true, the Father and the Son are the Parents of the Holy Spirit. Of course, the scriptures are vague if the Holy Spirit is the 3rd or 1st or 2nd Person of the Trinity--whichever of these is true, the First Person and the Second Person may be the Parents of the Third. Parent definition 1a from Merriam-Webster dictionary: one that begets or brings forth offspring.
Thank you for this post Father. I only clicked on this link because my 3 year old son had his first advent chocolate yesterday and wanted to hear what you had to say, but this post has touched me very much. Our second son was stillborn in October, and it has been both an absolutely terrible month of suffering for us, but also one of joy as we turned to God to offer up our suffering. And as we were putting up some lights and the Christmas tree last night, we felt both happy and sad, and wondered if we should even be doing this, or maybe "tone down" how we celebrate Christmas this year. But what you said about devout being "firm", and joy as not being equal to simple happiness but a "choice to be happy independent of circumstances"... I think this is very powerful, and is exactly what I needed to hear. Thank you for this post again, and know that it will help a small Catholic family in Singapore get though this Christmas season a little bit better.
We are so sorry to hear of your loss but glad that this video could be a small source of solace. Please know of Ascension's prayers for you and your family.
The Holy Spirit was at work leading you to this video. May God bless you, may Our Lady hold you close. May your second baby rest in peace in the arms of Jesus. Remember always to pray for his soul, and know that he is praying for you, too. And may your 3 year old know lifelong joy, in the season of Advent and in all seasons.
Praying for your peace during this time of loss and praying for your joy in the future with your family. I hope very much that this Christmas and Advent season touches you and your family, raises your spirits, and brings you closer to God. In Jesus name, amen. Have a blessed day and a Merry Christmas!
I too lost a son 50 years ago. He is in my heart every day. He is my little Saint. I also lost a granddaughter on the day of her birth she was baptized before dying. She is my other little saint in heaven. I pray for all families like ours daily because we carry this burden and heartbreak daily.
Father Mike... God bless you man. Just love your messages. Your homily this week has rocked my world. This is going to be a whole new Advent for me. Thank you for what you do. Love is a choice. Joy is a choice. Faith is a choice. Happy Advent.
I needed to hear this on the Saturday before Advent. Now I can enjoy the Christmas in the world when I venture out. Usually I’m such a bah-hum bug Scrooge when it comes to celebrating Christmas before Advent. May God reward you Father
Merry Christmas Fr Schmidt... I love your spirit and the joy you always seem to contain barely. May that be a blessing for the thousands out there needing some.
This is why i tend to plug off less of christmas commercial music, into classic catholic songs, hymns. Or chants, which are the best! Brings alot more of joy and happyness into the home. While i light my scented candles at night. Or during the day i light up myrh insense. It always reminds me of Jesus. When they brought him myrh. The rosary is also another comfy way to snuggle in the blankets. :-)
thank you Father! You are so amazing and have such loving and profound grace. I am using your talk about Advent with my 5th Grade RE class at St. Thomas More in Austin. I am so thankkful for the fun loving approach you have to your talks.
@frmike you are such a blessing have a very merry Christ filled Christmas.Your videos are always so helpful and amazing! God bless you and all at ascension presents! Merry Christmas all.
Thank you Fr. Mike. This sharing helps us to be mindful once again and remember on how much God loves each one of us...'God with us' through Jesus. O come, O come Emmanuel... Happy Advent!
I loved what you said about making room for Jesus Fr. Mike! We love your videos and show them to our children regularly. Although Advent is not technically a penitential season, it is still penitential in nature. It used to be called a "mini-lent." Yesssss Therese! Love all that you wrote. Advent is a beautiful season of both joy and penance. What a joy it is to be reconciled with Christ in the sacrament of penance.
Thank you and God Bless! PS. When you come to think of it, adults do have some issues with the "no" word. After all, when we were children, "no" was most often frowned upon by adults - can't imagine why ;)
Thanks for your great insights Father Mike. I'm a Lutheran (gasp) youth director, and I thoroughly enjoy watching your channel, and even sharing some of your videos with my youth!
Amen! I know I have more time for Christ than stuff just to fill it in. For my Lord and my God, I will turn from things which just aren't important anymore, when He is. I want heaven, I want to go home and sit with Him and learn.
JOY is the abiding sense of well being that comes from knowing that the Father knows me and loves me. JOY is a choice. My circumstances can be painful but I can still have joy by abiding in the absolute certainty that I have Him. The goal of Advent is not to have a merry merry Christmas. Ultimately it is to be able to worship Him, to prepare for His second coming. Whenever we pray, Jesus is present in us, it is His intermediary coming into our lives. If Jesus were to come to you now, would He have any room in your life?
I would welcome Jesus into my life with tears of joy and open arms of love. I love your videos, Fr. Mike. Are you not answering questions via your email anymore? From all of your viewers, I’m Joe , God bless!
Can Fr. Mike cover some common misconceptions protestants may have about Catholicism? Such as Catholic confession, praying to angels and saints for intercession, calling a priest father.
A great Fr Mike's show, a Mass, a great speaker coming to church.... no..... in order to say yes to Jesus (?)..... 🌲☔ Have to know which side is Jesus.
At one time, in college, a professor said, "No, I will not compromise my principles and give you the grade you want." Instead, I took a lower grade, and his advice. I took a break from school and graduated with a B.A. in English in the spring after taking off 1 semester. However, it was during that vacant semester that I met a young man who would become my husband. I had 2 children with him and started a small business. We remodeled our home with many improvements over the years and enjoyed traveling to see our beautiful USA. It was more than I ever imagined. Because, you see, by allowing this man to say NO to me, I was able to say YES to another man -- and to GOD and become a practicing Catholic. Then I truly learned what Advent was really about. I became the "richest woman in the world" because of this. And now you know the rest of my story.(Can I use this line now that Paul Harvey is gone? I hope so.) Thank you Father Mike for this wonderful little video. Happy Advent and Merry Christmas.
Oh, I wish he didn't say that Advent is not a penitential season, because it is! It's a time of prayer and penance mingled with joyful expectation - a time to prepare our souls for the 2nd coming of Christ. A holy time for us to get ready to meet our Judge. It makes sense to prepare by amending one's life, doing acts of penance and works of charity. Don't let this opportunity to grow in holiness pass you by!
I thought it was a penitential season - i mean because of the purple color used in the advent wreath and all. I thought it was to be a call for reflection and prayer. But i guess in the ends that's basically what he is saying.
I ask people all the time "If you waited two hours to get into Target to get that must have gift would you be willing to wait two hours to go to mass on a random Sunday in June to receive that gift?" Makes people think. Which gift would you prefer?
I dont even know what to say. I was thinking of advent and Christmas as presents and chocolate. I have been going to church since i was born and i am strong with god but i was always thinking of Christmas as just presents.....
I am trying to say no more in my life especially at work because I have a baby now and there is so much push back. Every no becomes a battle of "can't you just" or "all you do is..." I hate conflict and just want to stop drowning. Do you have advice for making people respect your "no" ?
Do American Catholics celebrate "Simbang Gabi" or a 9 days novena before Christmas during dawn? Because we as Catholics here in the Philippines ALWAYS celebrate Simbang Gabi before Christmas!
Violet is the color of penance. Purple is the color of royalty. Although they often look very much alike, there is a traditional difference. Indeed, the purple has a more reddish tone, traditionally. In ecclesiastical terms, properly, "purple" is used with regard to imperial and prelatial rank, rather than liturgy. We use the word "violet" for the purplish color used in vestments, etc. We use violet for Advent precisely because it IS a penitential season. It has a lighter character than Lent, but it is a penitential season. Fr. Mike is wrong in his presentation here. The preparation involved in this season is a penitential one, directed toward conversion and penance. Simply read the readings for the season, such as about St. John the Baptist, etc. God bless---Fr. Robert Miskell
Thank you Father!! I agree with Father Mike that's it is a joyful season but also, if we knew Jesus' 2nd coming would be Dec 24, 2018 - everyone would make sure to go to confession during Advent. I receive so much joy from the sacrament of penance. Advent is a beautiful season of joy and penance!
Celebrating Jesus sharing in our humanity, preparing for the second coming, if this does not involve a penitential heart then why the penitential service every Advent, those who met Christ were not only cured bodily but spiritually, the first Sunday of Advent the Gospel is always about judgment, why purgatory if to meet God one must be purified. True, the principal spirit of Advent is Hope and Faith and a Joyful union with Christ, but because it is not listed as a penitential season in the CCC does not negate the penitential implications and traditions of the Church. St Alphonsus writes about this, and so have many others including Pope Benedict. You wouldn’t receive Jesus Christ in Holy Communion without Confession of grave sins, that would be sacrilege. Meeting Christ in the second coming is no different, stay on guard, we know not the day, nor the hour.
I think as a former atheist, i conflated the concept of materialistic logic/belief and spiritual belief in a similar way to how joy is conflated with happiness. I became disillusioned by the precepts atheists often accept on faith and authority, even though they'll deny that even science relies on faith and authority, and made a choice to have faith in Christ and the authority of God instead. I'm still learning so much about the catholic faith but really want to know as much as possible before i get baptized and join the church.
i didn't understand why less parties and get togethers is more time with god. does it mean so you can have more time to pray and how many get togethers is too much?
I like father mike, but parts of this talk are confusing. Thankfully fr. Chris alar clarified the Catechism says Advent isn’t primarily a season of penance but a season of preparation. But you can still give up stuff. those who are members of the ordinariate have ember days which require abstaining from Meat for sure on Fridays and also ask that we partially abstain on Wednesdays and Saturday’s

"If you want joy, live with JOY (Jesus 1st, Others 2nd, Yourself 3rd)..." :D
That acronym is wonderful! Thank you for sharing!!!
You bet! Though just so you know, no credit goes to me for making it up. Heard it somewhere along the way. :)
Thank you! Amen. Thanks for reminding!
+Greg Aitchison WoW that acronym is badass!

This touched my heart more than I can explain, thank you.
Just brilliant. Thank you Father Mike. Your videos are so clear and thought provoking.
thank you Father! You are so amazing and have such loving and profound grace. I am using your talk about Advent with my 5th Grade RE class at St. Thomas More in Austin. I am so thankkful for the fun loving approach you have to your talks.
Devout means resolute powerful whole hearted. Thank you

Happy Advent!
That was beautiful Fr.Mike, thank you and God bless you. Am going to forward this to my kids.🙏
I need daily videos. Thank you Father. Love all of your videos. I have my wife watching them too.
I guess this is the reason my happiest Christmas memories have always been the times at St. Edward School right before vacation.
Wonderful Fr Mike
I need to say no more so I can say yes more! Nailed it! Thank you.
I really enjoyed your video! Thank you for sharing Father Mike!
Merry Christmas Fr. Mike!
i feel so blessed that I found this today . . . so meaningful during this crazy times we live in currently.

Yesssss Therese! Love all that you wrote. Advent is a beautiful season of both joy and penance. What a joy it is to be reconciled with Christ in the sacrament of penance.
Thanks Fr Mike. Spot on !
Thank God for this video!
Exercise “NO”. Thank You! I definitely needed to hear that!
I'm so happy I found you!
Hooray! Be in touch via comments, Anna and let us know what you'd like to see on Ascension Presents! God bless you!
Thank you and God Bless!

Beautiful! Wonderfully said on all counts!
This requires considerable discernment: to whom and to what one is to say "no" to. :-)
thx fr. Mikey!
The way Fr. Mike described the word devout & pious tho.. LOL!
Great wrap up at the end.
Well done Father Mike!
Thanks, as usual, for these messages! #calendars #priorities
Great advice. Thank you.
thank you for this!
This is wonderful. Thank you!
Very helpful, thank you!
Hey, Father? Why are the vestments purple like Lent if it isn't penitential?
Can Fr. Mike cover some common misconceptions protestants may have about Catholicism? Such as Catholic confession, praying to angels and saints for intercession, calling a priest father.
I believe he already has videos covering all these topics
Awesome video, I know I need to say no more!
John 3:15-18 KJV❤ 15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
A great Fr Mike's show, a Mass, a great speaker coming to church.... no..... in order to say yes to Jesus (?)..... 🌲☔ Have to know which side is Jesus.
Okay that is two in a row that I've liked. I gotta stop clicking on these.
So good. Thankyou
THE BEARD IS BACK!!!

I'm in a class watching a video by Brant Pietre right now, who says Advent is a penitential season. .

Why is Advent not a penitential season? I thought Dr. Taylor Marshall said it was?
Do American Catholics celebrate "Simbang Gabi" or a 9 days novena before Christmas during dawn? Because we as Catholics here in the Philippines ALWAYS celebrate Simbang Gabi before Christmas!
If Advent is not penitential, then why purple?
You are correct, Jerry - the violet vestments used during Advent and Lent are a sign of penance, sacrifice and preparation.
He's not correct on this one.
I think it is a penitential season
i didn't understand why less parties and get togethers is more time with god. does it mean so you can have more time to pray and how many get togethers is too much?
The subtitle tho 😂😂
glad you liked ;)

I like father mike, but parts of this talk are confusing. Thankfully fr. Chris alar clarified the Catechism says Advent isn’t primarily a season of penance but a season of preparation. But you can still give up stuff. those who are members of the ordinariate have ember days which require abstaining from Meat for sure on Fridays and also ask that we partially abstain on Wednesdays and Saturday’s
I'm a sinner please pray for my soul
