994slayer I bought the Uncharted collection and I hate it. TLoU is my favourite game, but Uncharted has a boring story, repetitive gameplay and was very frustrating. I hate Uncharted.
Problem was that when you returned to a planet there'd be no more enemies for you to fight, making it feel lonely while the entire rest of the game feels rich and populous

EliKRistberg It is much more lonely than some of the other ratchet games. Older ones had areas that you couldn't explore until you got some new gadget or to a certain point within the story, and the enemies would be more powerful too

GameTop Ratchet and Clank was a lot more lighthearted and focused more on combat while the Jak games were more about platforming with some elements of weapons thrown in.
I grew up with my GameCube during that generation in gaming. I only R&C game I owned was A Crack in Time from 2011; it was a great game, but I felt that I should have been familiar with the series to fully appreciate that installment. I might actually pick up this game in the near future.
The Ratchet and Clank series were an amazing series. If you ever get the chance to play them, I highly recommend it. The first three games are nostalgic to me. :)
I'm just sad seeing people bashing Quantum Break over this. Both are great games and folks at Remedy and Insomniac both did a fantastic job creating these long awaited masterpieces. Are people really this miserable?

Maybe the reviewer was riding a huge wave of nostalgia when they wrote this. I purchased this due to seeing this review. I'm an old time Rachet and Clank fan. The game is not bad. It does have some charming humor in some moments. But the game is a movie tie in. The story is cringy, Rachet and Clank have no heart to them. It uses movie cutscenes and makes you feel like you've missed things in the story. Because you have. It leaves stuff out. If you don't watch the movie, you get the impression that Cpt. Quark betrays you for no reason and you learn later that he was jealous and you "ruined" his life during your fight with him. It's perhaps the worst thing about the game. Dr. Nepharious obviously plays a huge role in the movie, but you wouldn't know it in the game. His plot isn't built on at all and he's onscreen time before he makes his movie is 2 cutscenes. He just sort of comes out of no where and becomes the big bad. It makes no sense, unless you've seen the movie and you just sort of have to assume. The gameplay hasn't innovated in the slightest with the exception of jetpack fights, which are cool, but not really any fun. Visually- the game's up to par- I can't complain there. But level design hasn't stepped up it's game. Some of the planets are almost insulting. And enemy design feels narrow. There are only 3. One hit pups, infantry, and tanks. There's a cool style of mini-boss that shows up for a mission and it's a little funny. Giant tentacle brain. Cool. 2 planets later, it shows up again colored blue with a different name out of the water with no rhyme or reason. There is a movid cutscene where you come in with your team on jetpacks. But once in game Ratchet is the only one that has to traverse the level and walk- because his jetpack "ran out of fuel". They had to work around the movie just to give you a proper level. The game is good. You should play it. But it's not a 9/10, and it's really insulting to actual 9/10 games. The biggest short coming of this game is that it ties in with the movie directly- and there for has to follow it's plot and keep it's characters. Bland cartoon ladies designed to be eye candy with stereotype persinalities so they can look like vague love interests to Ratchet and Clank respectively. Generic meathead. And finally, mercifully: Captain Quark is the only returning character in this game that you will enjoy as an old fan. He's really the saving grace of all dialogue and story. Every other character in the game, even the one's you will cream yourself with seeing again due to nostalgia like Big Al, even Ratchet and Clank, come off as bland and hollow. I'm sorry. This is not the magical reboot we were waiting for. It's no better than any of the PS3 games. It's just a pretty game with some fun gameplay that doesn't live up to any of the original trilogy. Hell, go replay Up Your Arsenal instead.

The Sony Playstation 4 has once again proved why the Playstation brand is the players choice for all things gaming. From bleeding edge graphical capability, the industry leading online service model, best in multiplat quality delivery, and best in overall exclusive offerings. Absolutely destroying it's "competition" in all catagories. Solidifying itself as industry leader.

having grown with the ps2 as my go to 6th gen console, seeing this just brings back so many awesome memories. we need more games like this, games that take us back to that 3D platforming golden age. Most platformers today are indie, which isn't bad but we need more AAA offerings. won't be playing this one soon because I have an xbone but sunset overdrive is still a blast. This is how you reboot a franchise Developers! make a gorgeous nostalgic reminder of your franchise while making it look amazing to new people. my jaw hit the floor when I got off the ship for the first time and was given a visual example of how far we've come in 13 years I'm so glad this game turned out well. one of the main reasons I got a PS4
Infamous Second Son and Ratchet & Clank 2016 are prime examples of what a console like the ps4 is capable of with proper optimization despite fixed hardware limitations. Both games to run native 1080p with solid AA and crystal clear textures and keeping a rock solid framerate with hundreds of particles rendered per frame at one time especially this early on in this console lifecycle is mind boggling. R&C a $40 game has far more production values injected into it than over 90% of $60 games out there.

IMO this game came soooo close to being a masterpiece. The big flaw was Ratchet's annoyingly santized personality. It felt like he was written to be palatable to four year olds. When the edgiest thing he can say in mortal danger is "Oh boy, out of a ammo!" it totally kills the sense of adrenaline and desperation in the game. I'm not saying he has to curse or anything, but c'mon! For a more experienced hero, it might work, but for a rookie like Ratchet it just killed the feel of the game.

Absolutely love this game! Really enjoyed completing it, i was going to initially just finish the game but then i realised i could easily get the platinum too which was fun to go for as well.
I'm so mad that I didn't grow up with rachet and clank I was one of those people that started with the 2016 reboot, after beating it I asked myself "what have I been missing all these years?! The guns, the story, it all just works, luckily, I'm hooked now. I ordered a crack in time, and into the nexus just recently, can't wait!
This is definetly one of the best looking games I have ever played on the PS4, and i might get the feeling that the visuals will stand the test of time because of the art design and well done animation.

You never know. Sony can always re-release ALL of the RATCHET AND CLANK Games in One Package. This is what I'm looking forward to in terms of releases on the PS5. Hopefully there's a RATCHET AND CLANK SPECIAL EDITION with ALL THE RATCHET AND CLANK GAMES Plus Something Extra To Make It Worth Buying.
Don't think that'll happen sadly. Insomniac doesn't have the rights to Spyro anymore. Been moved to other developers over the past years and atm really just a skylander thing unfortunately.
Gonna play this game with my little brother just like the game was meant for: introducing old fans and newcomers to the franchise. I can still remember very well that I had the blue demo disc on the Playstation 2 and the first Ratchet and Clank was one the games you could play. I played the demo so many times. Those where the good old days :')
Kane22ize some people can't even afford $20 games, some people don't bat an eye at dropping $100+ on a phone game. there's no objectivity there, which is why it shouldn't affect a review. prices also vary dependent on where you get the game, and they changed based on WHEN you buy the game. if someone watched this review a year from now, the game wouldn't be $40, so that wouldn't be a fair thing to talk about.
Me and my brother are just now getting into the series and this will be our first game to own from it. My brother especially is excited as hell to get this game. Definitely looking forward to seeing the look on his face once he hits the power button for the first time.
This game is so fun and absolutely gorgous and very well made! Great story, great character development and engaging cinematics. I higgly recommend it. I thought I was gonna just try it but after just 1 hour I kept going and it's very much addicting. It's a nice change from dark dreary intense games and is quite relaxing to play. The only thing I wish for is to set my jump button from x to L1 bumper. But thats basically it and its not a big deal just personal preference in bumper jumper. If it had custom button assignments I would be very happy.
I was so happy when I started playing this R&C. Quite a few have been released since A Crack in Time that have really been letdowns. Whether it was sacrificing length (Into the Nexus), the depth (all 4 one) or the story (full frontal assault); R&C fans have really been waiting for the next FULL game. This is definitely it. Tons of callbacks to previous games in the form of collectible cards that actually enhance your experience, stunning graphics quality, low price relative to other current gen games and surpassing all previous expectations. I'm going to see the movie with my little brothers, JUST to show Sony that there are definitely those of us out there who still want to see more R&C titles that are FULL experiences!

having grown with the ps2 as my go to 6th gen console, seeing this just brings back so many awesome memories. we need more games like this, games that take us back to that 3D platforming golden age. Most platformers today are indie, which isn't bad but we need more AAA offerings. won't be playing this one soon because I have an xbone but sunset overdrive is still a blast. Infamous Second Son and Ratchet & Clank 2016 are prime examples of what a console like the ps4 is capable of with proper optimization despite fixed hardware limitations. Both games to run native 1080p with solid AA and crystal clear textures and keeping a rock solid framerate with hundreds of particles rendered per frame at one time especially this early on in this console lifecycle is mind boggling. R&C a $40 game has far more production values injected into it than over 90% of $60 games out there.
Star Wars battlefront is a great example of the crappy $60 games

I mean don't get me wrong there are some great ones like Bloodbourne, The Nathan Drake Collection, No Man's Sky (yes I know it's also on PC), & Uncharted 4, but they're not really my thing and to be quite honest I'd much rather play XB1's exclusives. So with that said Ratchet & Clank is a fantastic game if you've not be all too thrilled with the exclusives like myself. Now again that is my PERSONAL opinion, you're free to agree or disagree but don't get starting a fire and there won't be a fire.

IMO this game came soooo close to being a masterpiece. The big flaw was Ratchet's annoyingly santized personality. It felt like he was written to be palatable to four year olds. When the edgiest thing he can say in mortal danger is "Oh boy, out of a ammo!" it totally kills the sense of adrenaline and desperation in the game. I'm not saying he has to curse or anything, but c'mon! For a more experienced hero, it might work, but for a rookie like Ratchet it just killed the feel of the game.

Absolutely love this game! Really enjoyed completing it, i was going to initially just finish the game but then i realised i could easily get the platinum too which was fun to go for as well.
That loneliness problem is solved in challenge mode where you're supposed to play. You're not meant to revisit planet unless you want collectibles

@@anderstars Funny enough, I actually got around to getting it earlier this year. A little let down, to be honest.
I'm so mad that I didn't grow up with rachet and clank I was one of those people that started with the 2016 reboot, after beating it I asked myself "what have I been missing all these years?! The guns, the story, it all just works, luckily, I'm hooked now. I ordered a crack in time, and into the nexus just recently, can't wait!

This is definetly one of the best looking games I have ever played on the PS4, and i might get the feeling that the visuals will stand the test of time because of the art design and well done animation.

You never know. Sony can always re-release ALL of the RATCHET AND CLANK Games in One Package. This is what I'm looking forward to in terms of releases on the PS5. Hopefully there's a RATCHET AND CLANK SPECIAL EDITION with ALL THE RATCHET AND CLANK GAMES Plus Something Extra To Make It Worth Buying.

Don't think that'll happen sadly. Insomniac doesn't have the rights to Spyro anymore. Been moved to other developers over the past years and atm really just a skylander thing unfortunately.

Kane22ize some people can't even afford $20 games, some people don't bat an eye at dropping $100+ on a phone game. there's no objectivity there, which is why it shouldn't affect a review.
prices also vary dependent on where you get the game, and they changed based on WHEN you buy the game. if someone watched this review a year from now, the game wouldn't be $40, so that wouldn't be a fair thing to talk about.
Me and my brother are just now getting into the series and this will be our first game to own from it. My brother especially is excited as hell to get this game. Definitely looking forward to seeing the look on his face once he hits the power button for the first time.
This shows how much old school games had much more content and incentive to play rather than nowadays with DLCs and paytoplay game modes
I'm going to enjoy switching between this and Dark Souls 3 in the next few weeks.

This game is better than Crash Bandicoot
This game is so fun and absolutely gorgous and very well made! Great story, great character development and engaging cinematics. I higgly recommend it. I thought I was gonna just try it but after just 1 hour I kept going and it's very much addicting. It's a nice change from dark dreary intense games and is quite relaxing to play. The only thing I wish for is to set my jump button from x to L1 bumper. But thats basically it and its not a big deal just personal preference in bumper jumper. If it had custom button assignments I would be very happy.
I was so happy when I started playing this R&C. Quite a few have been released since A Crack in Time that have really been letdowns. Whether it was sacrificing length (Into the Nexus), the depth (all 4 one) or the story (full frontal assault); R&C fans have really been waiting for the next FULL game. This is definitely it. Tons of callbacks to previous games in the form of collectible cards that actually enhance your experience, stunning graphics quality, low price relative to other current gen games and surpassing all previous expectations. I'm going to see the movie with my little brothers, JUST to show Sony that there are definitely those of us out there who still want to see more R&C titles that are FULL experiences!

Sunset Overdrive is still my favorite game of this generation. Glad to see Insomniac enjoying their well deserved success. Gonna pick this up at midnight for sure.

Sunset Overdrive is surprisingly good. I liked Infamous, but this game is better for that style of play. I'm wrapped up in Quantum Break right now, but I'll be getting Ratchet & Clank soon.
