it is actually painful to look at him shooting the Soma at Umbra with no effect...but not shooting his void beam because the operator dies....LUL :D and reading objectives is for noobs

Funny thing too is that the Mimics are the easiest of the sentient drones to kill and not die to because they keep their distance and don't have area attacks. And he still found ways to get killed.

Incredible writing and foresight from the devs. It's simple, cliché, and obvious when you think about it, but somehow they make it poignant.

I solved most of the puzzles and found the scannable stuff pretty quickly, but I could not play Komi to save my life (or rather, Umbra's desendants' lives). And yet here's Ralph, kicking Ballas's ass at Komi without losing a single stone until he was forced to.

I personally found the scanning part relatively simple (I went straight into the quest without changing my setup so I had my Helios Prime with me, it just auto-scanned everything). I believe he did say it's been a while since he played (from the looks of it, when Plains of Eidolon hit). And in his defense, he was absolutely slaying it at the Komi

He collaborated with Hunhow in secret, plotting both the downfall of the Orokin and the Tenno; thats (presumably) how Hunhow found out about the Tenno's true weakness.
As for the glowing eyes, thats just him speaking to the Dax Soldier through his transference bolt, it seems to allow some kind of telepathic communication

One of the theories is that Margulis and Natah struck a deal, Margulis to escape her death and Natah to be able to have children (the Tenno) and that they together form the personality we know as the Lotus.
I'm sure her helmet is part of the puzzle as well but I fear we'll have to wait a good while before we get the next chunk of story - which might not give us those answers just yet either. :/

Skill up, long story short, spoilers for others:
The helminth virus (controlled strain of the infested) was used to create the warframes, forcefully or voluntarily injected into people, often dax or low ranking potential candidates of the orokin empire. The infection physically transformed them into what they are as frames, like umbra, the different being that umbra is like a prototype that went wrong, all umbra apparently are. Other frames are the standard, and primes are the perfected or goal of what they're meant to be. Another difference being that our frames don't have consciousness, either existent or awake, whichever the case umbra is a case where the frame retains it's memories and brain activity.
Side note it's said that the infested, when they mutate you, your brain may still, and I quote a youtuber "be in tact". This is such a case that proves that theory however, with umbra having control over his body, despite being driven mad.
Hence the worm queen calls our frames infested puppets and the infested wonder why we attack our own

    • @TheSilverPikeax
      @TheSilverPikeax 6 років тому +19

This is mostly correct, though it should be noted that Alad V does say that the internal parts of a Warframe shouldn't really work. IIRC, he said that it doesn't quite tick. Alad V is notable for being a researcher into the infected and having infected himself at some point (did he cure that? Alad's timeline is all janky).

    • @igorzborowski44
      @igorzborowski44 6 років тому +19

+Stephen Jones (Pikeax) it doesent tick for him because normal frames lack sentience so he was thinking how do those work if they lack the necesary senses to move on their own without the operator, i dont think he even knows that operators/tenno exist i think he considers all warframes as,, bio drones"

FYI, the non-prime frames we have weren't around during the orokin empire, only umbras and primes. The non-primes were relatively modern attempts to recreate the orokin's primes but could not compare to their work. That's why we get prime shit from the remnants of the empire in the relics and stuff.

A guide how to kill "Those things"
quick disclaimer : I will be spoiling major events from second dream and war within so please if you haven't played those quests don't read this ! And English is not my mother tongue so correct me if I have failed to explain myself.
How we used to fight sentients in the dark age (before the war within):
The problem with sentients is that they adapt to your damage, which is indicated by a red symbol over their health bar, because of that they will only receive a minor fraction of the damage your current gun has. Solutions were modding for different elemental types on your secondary, primary and melee and switching your weapon when you realised the sentient was only taking 5 damage per shot/hit. Another option was using mesa or Excalibur both have tools to deal with sentients. For instance Excalibur can blind them with his second ability which will stun them and amplify your melee damage by a ridiculous amount. Mesa on the other hand has her peacemaker ability which will destroy any foolish sentient around her.
    After the war within :
There is only one thing sentients can't`t adapt to and that`s the void and with introduction the new abilities for our operator the killing of sentients was quite easy. You only need to hit them with the void beam and all of their stocked up resistances are gone (same thing goes for shadow stalker) this way your allowed to bring any frame and or weapon for the fight against them. Just jump out hit them with the beam and you can continue to listen to the magnificent sound of your weapon.
    With Excalibur Umbra:
Now we not only got mods that amplify our damage and resistances against the sentients we also got a frame that has the ability to strip the resistances of sentients. With the second ability of Excalibur Umbra you are no longer forced to use your operator he can provide the same effect whilst still increasing his melee damage to blinded enemies.
That should sum it up if I have missed any detail please add it and thank you for reading.
It is a fantastic experience following you on your journey skill up keep up the good work and a nice day for everyone

Twilight053 i'm gonna be blunt skill up fucking sucked in this playthrough. It was frustrating to watch him playthrough the thing because of how much he just flat out sucked. Why didn't he radial howl and exalted blade the sentients? Why didn't he use primarily radiation damage against the sentients. How on earth did he not know which button was void blast? Why didn't he transfer out of his warframe when he was nearly dead? So many areas that he lacked even the fundamental mechanics of warframe. I don't hate the guy but i do feel the need to criticize his lack of skills in so many basic things. I still love his personality and his reviews but he honestly sucks in his playthroughs.

That's true about quite a few things.
I enjoyed the operator from the start, but from what I hear, many others didnt. But as I unlocked the tennos power it just made that "angsty teenager" quite useful and even more fun. The extra energy pool, the faster speed(especially void dash speed), the extra health. You got most of it right. These quests depend on your knowledge of lore and previous quests, it adds a lot more impact to them. A lot of these things might not make any sense otherwise (like, the fact that Ballas is not just some dude, but an Orokin Executor, who Dax were and such).
If I was a returning player, I'd probably watch all StallordD's stuff prior to the newest quest, that'd be a good place to start.

Question. As someone who has another game to keep me occupied daily, I've wanted to get into Warframe, but it seems a bit too complicated and grindy as a side-game to get into (don't get me wrong, both good qualities that give the game depth, I just don't have enough time for another right now). Is there a good YT channel to watch play-throughs of the important missions? I hear good things about some of the later missions, but I will not get to experience those in the near future first hand.

Stenbox any warframe partnered youtuber usually made videos of doing the major quests, but i will say that warframe's lore is better if you experience it first hand
As for the grind it would be easier if you have a friend who has played the game and willing to carry you to the point where the lore starts to be a major part of the game

    Well, two things!
1- Idk if you understand the whole lore
2-I'll explain the whole lore for YOU, since you done all quests!! =D
    Well... let's go then.
    Okay, WHO ARE THE OROKIN?
Well, we can say they where normal humans, but then they discovered the imortality, and then it start the whole orokin empire, the Orokin Empire was an ancient civilization that ruled over the Origin System in the distant past. During what was known as the Orokin Era, they built technological masterpieces that surpass even present day technology while exercising complete dominion over the known world. Although details about the Orokin are scarce, they are almost entirely responsible for the current state of the Origin System
Well, so they ruled over the origin system, during loooooooong centuries, until the resources of all planets almost gone extinct! so they NEED a new system, or a new way to take resources, they discovered the TAU, so they created the SENTIENTS, orokin terraformers, they where built to construct those "terminals" like you do in the origin system, but these ones where made to travel much far away! the Orokin crafted them with the ability to adapt to any sort of damage that they would encounter as well as the ability to replicate from damaged components, however the Void was "poison" to them, later revealed to interfere with their adaptation and replication. Theoretically, this would have left them stranded in the Tau system once they had finished their purpose.
While that was happening, the ship know as ZARIMAN TEN ZERO, was send to the void, they where people send to colonize TAU (as far as i know), until the "accident" happened
However, the sentience they had gained also caused them to realize that their creators would lay waste to the Tau system as they did with Earth, and thus they returned to the Origin system to wage war with the Orokin. With their advanced adaptability they were taking over the most sophisticated Orokin technology, and gradually gaining powerful resistances even to the most advanced of Orokin weaponry.
In desperation the Orokin utilized the survivors of the Zariman Ten-Zero incident, to whom the Void had gifted immense power, to fight back against the Sentient threat. They were trained in the old ways of battle and given conduits that could withstand, channel and amplify their power were created. With the use of the Tenno, the Orokin managed to turn the tide of battle.
Well, as you see in THE SACRIFICE, the warframes are made by infestating people (in the Umbra's case, Dax soldiers) with the HELMINTH infestation (since EVERY other infestation has turn back on the Orokins), but their minds are still in chaos, and only the TENNO could make the perfect transference, overcoming the madness.
However, the Orokin were betrayed by Ballas, who had grown vengeful over the death of his beloved Margulis. Using information provided to him by Ballas, Hunhow sent his daughter Natah, under a human appearance, to serve as a mole within the Origin System. She would destroy the Empire from within and exterminate the Tenno, Natah completed Hunhow's main objective with the purge of the Orokin but she could not bring herself to kill the Tenno. Instead, Natah chose to adopt them as her own children, as her human predecessor, Margulis, had done before. She hid the Reservoir, the Tenno's only weakness, in the Void, keeping it safe from the retaliation of the Sentient. Denying her old identity, Natah took the name of the flower most beloved by Margulis, the Lotus, and became the Tenno's custodian.
After the Orokins murder Margulis, the Tenno also became vengeful, they kill most of the orokins in a giant ""riot", as Alad V says on Second Dream, we literally wipe out an ENTIRE civilization!
well, about Warframes, orokins, and sentients, i think this is all! =D

Man thank you for the explanation, the quests do a kind of bad work at explaining stuff since you're completing objectives while hearing them talk, so is hard to keep up with what they're saying, at least they are getting better at it.

I might dispute a bit of the timing on Margulis's execution, but other than that you really put this down efficiently.
As I understand it, Margulis was executed during or before The Old War with the Sentients. Lotus coordinated the destruction of the Orokin, using that as an emotional pivot point to motivate the Tenno to do so. The Tenno struck during the victory celebration and before going into stasis, for a period of time Tenno struck targets during the collapse of the Oroking empire. Lotus put Lua into the void to make it basically impossible to attack, and we can infer that happened during the War, since Ballas gave that location away to Hunhow, enabling Hunhow to give them to Stalker, the events of Second Dream are thus Ballas's fault.

I would like to point out a small little detail that some people overlook. The reason we're called Tenno is because we're all survivors from Zariman Ten Zero. Ten 0. Ten-O. Tenno.

Most warframes were/are made from dead orokin bodies where as Umbra was created by infesting a dax soldier who wanted to tell the Masters of the Orokin Empite that Ballas and Hunhow work together.
Umbra understands the Orokin and the Tau system way better than us.

Even the nbn is not great. Its plans were downgraded by a new government prior to implementation - existing copper wiring (used for analogue telephones and dialup internet/DSL) was kept from node to point (home) instead of the original plan to run fibre. I believe there's been an amendment to now run fibre from node to curb (then copper to home) but that's only for new installations. Too bad for anywhere that's already been done (like where I live).
The nbn may be great for rural areas but for metro it was a shambled mis-spending of money. In terms of the tech, wireless technologies such as 4G/5G have already made the nbn obsolete. That said, mobile internet is still more costly and 5G is not fully operational here yet.

But yeah. That IS actually space mom. She's a sentient, remember? She took on Margulis' face and form to be more soothing to the Tenno. The sentients value family over all else and lost their ability to reproduce when coming to the origin system from Tau. Lotus (or Natah) is Hunhow's last child. We don't know who lotus' mother is but presumably she's still in the Tau system.

  • @elo9125
    @elo9125 6 років тому +5

To be entirely honest, you didn't do that bad considering how long you've been away from warframe and how weak your operator is. With a good amp and enough points invested into focus (which isn't as bad as the last time you've played, the costs have been reduced, the daily cap increased, and both Sanctuary Onslaught and Tridolon hunting are very fast ways of gaining focus) the Operator can become hilariously strong, especially at the level of this quest.
Aside from that, the Sentients are just a bit tricky to fight, but the most important thing you need to know about them is their Adaptive Resistance mechanic. Those red icons you see swirling above their heads appear when a certain damage type (impact, slash, corrosive, viral etc.) has been used to damage them and instantly grants them 90% damage resistance to it, meaning that weapons with high damage bias like Soma Prime slash or Aklex Prime's puncture (and impact to some extent which is why you saw some good results with it) will become near useless after a few shots. Normally this would mean you need several different weapons and switch between them to kill each Sentient, but with Operator it all goes out the window. Their Void damage type will instantly reset all damage resistances on a Sentient making it super vulnerable again. The amount of Void damage dealt doesn't matter, so typically you just burn them down to around half their health when their resistances block most of your damage, pop into Operator mode and flash them with a little Void damage (amp, Void Blast or Void Dash), and then immediately go back into your warframe to finish them off.
Excalibur Umbra's two primary gimmicks are that it fights alongside you like a Specter (which due to its AI is there more to look cool then to really make any dramatic difference to your playstyle) and the other is its modified Radial Howl ability (originally Radial Blind on base Excalibur) which has a different animation and sound, but more imprtantly now also strips all Sentient resistances the same way Operator does (while also stunning them which is always quite useful). As you also noticed it comes with new mods and unique Umbra polarities to fit them, making Umbra the de facto Sentient Hunter frame. This is mostly why everyone now expects the TennoCon reveal to have something to do with the Tau Ceti system (the system that Sentients were originally sent to by the Orikin for terraforming purposes) or at least a Sentient Outpost somwhere in the outer reaches of the Sol system.

Margulis is not Lotus' mother, Margulis and Natah combined to become the Lotus. We don't know who 'Mother' is exactly. However I believe it to be Hunhow, a lot of people can say that Hunhow is male and is therefore not Natah's mother but it was Huhow who said that the Sentient crossed the void, their wombs in flames or something along those lines in the Natah quest I believe. I don't believe that the Sentient have genders per say just parents/creators but that's just speculation. It's also interesting to see in this quest that the betrayal of the Sentient was intentional. That their creator intended for them not to hand the Tau system over to the Orokin.

Honestly the amount of time/resources you have to put into making the Operator effective feels excessive. That focus isn't going into things you'll use 90% of the time you play and to really beef up the Operator you need to unbind passives, which is another 1 million focus per node (2 nodes per path remember) after maxing it out.
I think the vast majority of players simply won't HAVE much if any operator benefits from the focus trees when doing this quest.

Sometime you don't have choice living in rural areas, only DSL available and Satellite is so sky high that you live with what you get. I myself finally got Fiber line 2 months ago and only because last 10 years I have been non stop complaining to our rural phone co-op company for crappy INTERNET service they provide us with. Excuses have ranged from us "being at end of service line from nearest hub" to "maybe our Ethernet Router was old". Post Dial-up We had for years 2.8-3MB down 300-700kb Up. I have become close friends with the repair supervisor over our area and I would send him texts w Screenshots every time it dropped connection or speed be 400kb Down50kb Up. They finally added our street to the budget few years ago,ran the fiber line but still haven't connected us for last 2 years. I've had Router replaced with every model They have, even with the best one for media (with 2.4GHz and 5GHz Streaming with phone and cable connection) they use in homes within town limits. it was 0 improvement just the signal got more stable. So now we were just switched over onto Fiber Line and have 15MB Down 3MB Up(59.99$ a month), at least now We are limited by how much I wanna pay but at least now I can keep speeding up as I see fit. WE can finally stream movies, both kids like to watch UA-cam and when wife does Online school classes everyone doesn't have to stop doing anything online. I even did my very 1st Twitch stream last weekend had no lag and was able to still play normal on my PS4 in Warframe.
Moral of the story -- In this technological day and age there shouldn't be anyone on super slow DSL or Dial-up(because there are still users who put up with it). There should be a standard of 20MB Down 10MB Up at least
PS. I even used to HotSpot to my Verizon 4G phone when I got very frustrated. And with connection 35MB-15MB Up I wanted to cry how unfair it was on DSL

The parts of the story you seem to have missed: The Orokin created the Sentients to extend the Orokin empire into another solar system. The Sentients are Sentient machines that can reproduce. So they knew that the Orokin would ruin it just like they did with earth and turned on them. Ballas and Margulis were lovers, and both hated the Orokin empire. They caught Margulis saving the Tenno, Ballas had the rank of executioner and was forced to execute Margulis. She was the sacrifice for us. So Ballas instead started to work with the Sentients behind the scenes to destroy the Orokin empire. Currently it's unclear why but it is clear that it is out of anger because they forced him to execute his lover. Umbra used to be highly ranked soldier, who spotted Ballas having communications with the Sentients. Ballas wanted to torture him in this way and make him feel the same s him, by forcing him to execute his most loved one (his son). Lotus IS a Sentient with the memories of Margulis. Which she even admitted during the Natah quest. Which leads me to why I think Ballas worked with Hunhow: I think that he made a deal with Hunhow, that he needs to give him secrets while Hunhow will sort of bring his lover Margulis back from the dead. Which created the Lotus. I expected her to return to the Sentients, and that we won't get her back at the end of it. But the end was even a shock for me tho.

I just realised something, in the "yellow path" of the mission when the operator and Umbra finally sync, the guitar/banjo playing in the background must be pre-umbra's Shawzin, there must be a coalition between this because umbra finally found someone to share his pain and at the end of the mission, he finally had his vengeance, maybe the song that plays in the background must be 'Smiles of Juran' as it reminded him of his happy days.

*Ralph please read this for a bit of lore explanation:*
    *WARNING text below contains spoilers!*
    > Margulis and Ballas worked together on the Tenno and Warframe project.
    - Ballas created the first warframes, he took Orokin men and women and infected them with the Technocyte Virus and using the Helminth.
    - Margulis was responsible for easing the Tenno suffering by creating the Transference system and inducing Tenno into a dream like state.
(Remember that Tenno lost all their relatives on the Zariman Ten Zero, only they survived)
    > Margulis and Ballas had a romantic relationship, how far that relationship went is unknown as of now.
    > Ballas was part of the tribunal that sentenced Margulis to death, hence his comment of "sacrifice Love for Faith" ,he choose the Orokin instead of Margulis.
    > So now Margulis is dead, but some time after her death and before the Tenno Revolt, Natah came into the picture.
    > Natah is/was a daughter of Hunhow leader of the Sentients in the TAU system.
    - She was sent to our system, the Sol system to turn the tide of the Orokin-Sentient war.
    - By assuming the appearance of Margulis she got the Tenno to listen to her. this is also when she took the up the name of The Lotus.
    - Spurred on by the Lotus, the Tenno revolted and all but eradicated the Orokin.
    - The Lotus was ordered by Hunhow to kill the Tenno after they had killed the Orokin but she put us to sleep instead.
*note: some conjecture in the following:*
    > Fast forward to the present and The Lotus awakens us.(This quest makes it all the more confusing why she did.)
    - The Tenno keep balance.
    - The Tenno finish of remnants of Hunhow lurking in the sea. (Natah quest)
    - Unless we use the boddies of the enemies we kill, i doubt the Warframes we make in the present are made in the same way Ballas did in the past.
    - Because we used Umbra parts the rebuild Umbra, most importantly his head/brain, and Infested tissue is amazing at regenerating, we were able to recreate him perfectly.
So now Umbra is probably the only Warframe in our arsenal that's actually a human at it's core.
    - "But what about my Warframe moving on it's own during The Second Dream?"
Helminth is a living infested creature with some degree of self control, but tame. Helminth charger is tame as well. Likely the Warframes are also tame infested creatures.
In simple terms it was like a dog protecting it's master.
As to who the Lotus 's mother is, we don't know. I think she did appear in the Natah quest for a moment, but it's been a while so...
It's safe to assume that the Lotus went to the TAU system with Ballas.
Hope the text wall wasn't to horrid of a read.
    Cheers!

About sentients, they build up resistances to certain damage types after they have been hit with the effect that's what the little red icons next to their health are showing, that's why they take less damage the more you hit them. The special thing about umbra is his 2 can cleanse/remove those resistances as a side effect to stunning them with it, and his abilities do more damage then average when umbral mods are equipped. But this was a great playthrough I hope you do more of these!

Take care of your Operators and Operators will take care of you.
I had a custom amp but only unlocked some of their abilities, and had no difficulties in this part. I can only imagine how buttery-smooth it was for those who leveled them to the max.
And most importantly, study their abilities. SkillUp, you have no idea how easy it would've been if you at least knew that when you'r cloacked you're not just cloacked, you're actually invincible.

@Skill up, those things that you hate have a damage reduction that they build up, if you use the same weapon too much, you are meant to reset the damage reduction with a void strike, but blinds, like inaros first ability, and Excalibur's 2nd called radial blind/howl do this also. So next time you have to fight these in a story mission (You will), shoot them, then when it does no damage, use a blind or switch to void :)

Because next to no one cared to offer assistance:
Umbra is one of the best unmodded frames to handle sentients.
    Weapons must have radiation damage.
Sentients adapt to damage types so if youre damage falls off, switch to another weapons that has a different element or primary raw typing.
Umbra's Howl (2nd ability) clears all resistances on sentients in addition to blinding them.
Umbra sacrificial mods have "Tau Resistance", meaning sentients overall do less damage to you.
Umbra mods also are set-level based. Having all 3 makes all 3 maxed, having 2 makes them middle ground, and just having 1 makes that 1 sub-par. Same with his melee and the sacrificial mods.
The passive of the frame allows Umbra to act as a spectre when youre in operator mode. Additionally the hidden ability of the shiajati is that you turn invisible for a while when you perform a stealth attack that kills an enemy. (Used best with radial howl).
Now you know why so many people face palmed... But don't let that get to you. People tend to forget that in WarFrame everything is essentially "Learn as you go". Thats why so many pros refered to the wiki back in the day until it became memorized.
About Umbra: Umbra was a Chinese server exclusive, but when the server closed they petitioned to have Umbra moved to the Global server. Umbra has better overall base stats than even Excal Prime. This was also partially DE's way to apologize to users for their Excal Prime/Founders exclusivity since so many users wanted Prime but cant ever get it after the offers closed in 2013. If Prime ever comes back, DE is liable to be sued by any and all Founders as a form of contract was established that only Founders can have Prime.

"We had created monsters we couldn't control... We drugged them, tortured them, eviscerated them. We brutalized their minds, but it did not work. Until they came. And it was not their force of will, not their void devilry, not their alien darkness... It was something else. It was that somehow, from within the derelict horror, they had learned a way to see inside an ugly, broken thing... and take away it's pain."
